Amsterdam (English /ˈæmstərdæm/ or /ˌæmstərˈdæm/;Dutch: [ɑmstərˈdɑm]) is the capital city and most populous city of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Its status as the Dutch capital is mandated by the Constitution of the Netherlands though it is not the seat of the Dutch government, which is The Hague. Amsterdam has a population of 834,119 within the city proper, 1,329,779 in the urban area and 1,603,531 in the metropolitan area. The city region has an approximate population of 2,431,000. The city is located in the province of North Holland in the west of the country, and is also North Holland's largest city. It comprises much of the northern part of the Randstad, one of the larger conurbations in Europe, with a population of approximately 7 million.
Amsterdam's name derives from Amstelredamme, indicative of the city's origin as a dam of the river Amstel. Originating as a small fishing village in the late 12th century, Amsterdam became one of the most important ports in the world during the Dutch Golden Age (17th century), a result of its innovative developments in trade. During that time, the city was the leading center for finance and diamonds. In the 19th and 20th centuries the city expanded, and many new neighbourhoods and suburbs were planned and built. The 17th-century canals of Amsterdam and the 19–20th century Defence Line of Amsterdam are on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
FIFA 15 is an association football simulation video game developed by EA Canada and published by Electronic Arts. It was released on 23 September 2014 in North America, 25 September in Europe and 26 September in the United Kingdom and Ireland for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Nintendo 3DS, Wii, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows, iOS, Android and Windows Phone. On PC, FIFA 15 runs on EA’s Ignite engine with the same features as the PS4 and Xbox One editions.
The game features Lionel Messi on its cover, alongside a different player in different parts of the world, and is the first game in the FIFA series to be fully licensed by the Premier League. FIFA 15 received positive reviews across all platforms, although the PC version in particular was criticised for the amount of bugs that were featured at release.
FIFA 15's Ultimate Team introduced a new feature, in which users can sign loan players for a limited duration of matches. Another new feature is The Concept Squad, where players are given access to the game's database and can create a "dream squad". The concept player's card is grey colored. A number of new legends are also introduced to the game, including Franz Beckenbauer, Roberto Carlos, Peter Schmeichel and Hristo Stoichkov which are only available on Xbox One and Xbox 360.
Big data is a broad term for data sets so large or complex that traditional data processing applications are inadequate. Challenges include analysis, capture, data curation, search, sharing, storage, transfer, visualization, querying and information privacy. The term often refers simply to the use of predictive analytics or certain other advanced methods to extract value from data, and seldom to a particular size of data set. Accuracy in big data may lead to more confident decision making, and better decisions can result in greater operational efficiency, cost reduction and reduced risk.
Analysis of data sets can find new correlations to "spot business trends, prevent diseases, combat crime and so on." Scientists, business executives, practitioners of medicine, advertising and governments alike regularly meet difficulties with large data sets in areas including Internet search, finance and business informatics. Scientists encounter limitations in e-Science work, including meteorology, genomics, connectomics, complex physics simulations, biology and environmental research.

We discovered many private gardens that lie behind some of the nicest canal houses in the city center. Many are also part of museums and hotels which can be visited year-round. But some are only open to the public during Open Garden Days which takes place in June. This year's theme is "Art in the Garden", so many beautiful and unique pieces are also on display. If you're into flowers, landscape design or just want a sneaky peek into people's backyards, watch the video and see gardens that you can visit now and also get a rare glimpse of some which our normally closed to the public. The barge Charlotte Johanna for the first time into the water in 1908, for the carriage of goods by inland waterways in Western Europe. The ramp leads to the main entrance of the ship's control room, which is used as a hall. From there, a steep staircase down into what was once a cargo compartment, and is now a comfortable living space. Travel video about destination Amsterdam in Holland. Amsterdam is a captivating metropolis, a city of canals in which anything is allowed as long as it does no harm. In 1567, the much-traveled Italian, Lodovico Guicciardini, referred to Amsterdam as 'The Venice of the North'. Today, the view across the main square and royal castle gives little hint that the city is supported by stakes and that Amsterdam is the largest lakeland village in the world. The bicycle is one of the city's main features. Parking spaces have been designed specially for this mode of transport and it shows that even in a large city, there is an alternative way of getting about. In the city centre, there are nearly 7,000 protected houses and warehouses, most of which date back to the 18th and 19th centuries. The 3...

In 2010 three institutes combined their collections forming Naturalis Biodiversity Center, the Dutch center of excellence for biodiversity studies. We were asked to create a film in which the past, present and future of the organization is visualized. With the merger Naturalis Biodiversity Center became one of the largest collections in the world, with over 37 million objects. Polycentric urban development is a concept that is sometimes difficult to explain to the general urban user. The reason is linked to the fact that everybody can define a center by referring to personal experiences, knowledge and background. Moreover, location and situation in which you ask "What is a center?" affect its definition. In addition, the answer would definitively depend on which type of person would ask this basic question. To show that these postulations are true, we made an experiment during Queensday, which is the most important public holiday of Holland. Queensday takes place at the end of a long and rainy winter. The city transforms into an improvised flee market, the streets are punted with orange colors, and people faces are red, because of the sun, and sometimes, the be...

This lecture was recorded on April 8th, 2014 on the San Francisco campus of the California College of the Arts. Michiel Schwarz is a design thinker, cultural innovator, and futurist best known for his "Sustainism" manifesto and, more recently, the Sustainist Design Guide. Connecting social design to sustainable innovation, he looks at how design is embracing a new social and ecological sensibility, as we collectively "design" our built and natural environment. Schwarz is founding director of Sustainism Lab, a project platform based in Amsterdam. Current projects include collaborations with the social design hub The Beach and the cultural center Pakhuis de Zwijger (both in Amsterdam), and with the School of Design at Ambedkar University Delhi (India). His cultural manifesto, Sustainism ...
Presented October 25, 2014 at the Nasher Sculpture Center. Speaking in conversation with Curator Jed Morse, Artist Anna-Bella Papp discusses her exhibition 'Sightings: Anna-Bella Papp' in the Nasher Sculpture Center galleries. Anna-Bella Papp makes exquisitely restrained works in unfired clay. Occupying tabletops or mounted to walls, the sculpted reliefs are intimate in scale yet suggest objects and spaces many times their scale. Many of the works recall low-relief architectural models or site plans for minimalist earthworks. They also call to mind modernist reliefs by artists as diverse as Jean Arp, Alberto Giacometti, and Ben Nicholson. Although relatively flat, the works are resolutely sculptural, often worked on both faces and even at times the edges. In this spare, rectangular ...
