Leith /ˈliːθ/; Scottish Gaelic: Lìte; is a district to the north of the city of Edinburgh at the mouth of the Water of Leith.
The earliest surviving historical references are in the royal charter authorising the construction of Holyrood Abbey in 1128. The medieval settlements of Leith had grown into a burgh by 1833, and the burgh was merged into Edinburgh in 1920.
Leith is sited on the coast of the Firth of Forth and lies within the council area of the City of Edinburgh.
The port remains one of its most valuable enterprises, handling over 1.5 million tonnes of cargo a year in 2003.
Previous to the bridge being built in the late 15th century, Leith had settlements on either side of the river, lacking an easy crossing.
South Leith was larger and was controlled by the lairds of Restalrig: the Logan family. It was based on trade and had many merchants' houses and warehouses. This was where ships offloaded their cargoes at The Shore where they were collected by Edinburgh merchants. Leithers were explicitly forbidden by statute to participate directly in the trade at the port, to ensure that landed goods were not sold elsewhere.

The Proclaimers are a Scottish band composed of twin brothers Charlie and Craig Reid (born 5 March 1962). They are best known for the songs "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)", "Sunshine on Leith", "I'm On My Way" and "Letter from America", and their distinctive singing style with a Scottish accent. The band tours extensively throughout the world. They have released ten studio albums from 1987 until the present, as well as three compilation albums and a DVD.
Craig Reid and Charlie Reid were born in Leith on 5 March 1962, and grew up in Edinburgh, Cornwall and Auchtermuchty. When they lived in Auchtermuchty they attended Bell Baxter High School. After several punk rock bands at school they formed the Proclaimers in 1983.
The pair came to public attention when an Inverness-based fan sent their demo to the English band the Housemartins, who were impressed enough to invite the Proclaimers on their 1986 United Kingdom tour. The exposure of the tour won them a January 1987 appearance on the British pop music television programme The Tube on Channel Four; "Letter from America" peaked at number three in the UK Singles Chart, while the album This Is the Story went gold. The follow-up album Sunshine on Leith featured "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" and "I'm On My Way". They had a hit with their EP King of the Road, which reached number nine in the UK in 1990. After seven low-profile years, they released their comeback album Persevere in 2001.

The Scottish capital of Edinburgh is one of the world’s most beautiful cities. Its Old Town and Royal Mile are filled with the ghosts of medieval merchants, body snatchers, and poets, while its Georgian-styled New Town shines with the glories of the Scottish Enlightenment. To see Edinburgh in all her glory, climb to Arthur’s Seat, the highest of the city’s seven peaks. Some historians believe this was the site of King Arthur’s legendary castle Camelot. Nearby, on another volcanic crag, rises Edinburgh Castle, the very symbol of Scotland itself. Over the last eleven centuries, this castle has been laid siege to 26 times but still it stands, a testimony to the indomitable spirit of the Scots. Edinburgh has long held a special place in the hearts of the monarchy. Her Majesty’s Yacht Br...
Restuarants in Edinburgh - Scotland World Travel https://www.youtube.com/user/World1Tube Edinburgh - Scotland Travel Guide http://goo.gl/AeX8IX Edinburgh's centre of gastronomic gravity has been shifting gradually north for several years and the historic port of Leith is now home to two of the city's four Michelin stars. Leith also has many good non-Michelin-starred restaurants, clustered around the Shore area and the Scottish Government building. Fans of fish and seafood, in particular, would be well advised to make the pilgrimage down Leith Walk. Of course there are still many good restaurants in the city centre and the New Town, as well as neighbourhood bistros in more out-of-the-way corners. The Edinburgh restaurants below have been classed into different price ranges: Expensive (over...

Edinburgh - Scotland Travel guide, Vacation, Tourism World Travel https://www.youtube.com/user/World1Tube Edinburgh - Scotland Travel Guide http://goo.gl/AeX8IX ادنبرغ has inspired poets, artists and philosophers for hundreds of years, yet it is very much a city of the 21st century too. Edinburgh has everything: high culture and haute couture, stand-up comedy and country walks, and of course Edinburgh Castle, perched on its volcanic crag overlooking the medieval buildings of the Old Town and the magnificent Georgian architecture of the New Town. Together, they make up the UNESCO-listed World Heritage site. Better still, Edinburgh's compact size means the city's main sites are easily explored on foot. Nevertheless, plans for a new tram link from the airport to the city from May 2014 will b...

Transport in Edinburgh - Scotland World Travel https://www.youtube.com/user/World1Tube Edinburgh - Scotland Travel Guide http://goo.gl/AeX8IX Public transport: Public transport in Edinburgh's centre is currently subject to disruption and re-routing as preparation continues for the introduction of a delay-ridden new tram line. Buses usually running along Princes Street will be diverted until summer 2012. Lothian Buses provides bus services within the city and to outlying suburbs. A good nightbus service operates from midnight until early morning. You must have exact change for all journeys. The busiest bus stops have ticket machines where you can buy tickets, at a slight discount, before boarding. Some dormitory towns are covered only by First buses. Lothian Buses offers a range of pas...
A wee new year walk up two Munros at the top of the Ben Lawers range in some pretty scummy and windy conditions. This is also the first full UHD 4K video I've made with my A6300 - until now I'd been resampling the footage down to 1080 HD Prores and editing from that, but this time round I edited from Proxies and exported in UHD 4K (3840x2160). Shot with Sony A6300, Sony 16-50mm zoom lens, Calumet Pro ND8 filter, Rode VideoMicro, Manfrotto Compact Monopod.
