Paul Van Dyke

Paul Van Dyke (1859–1933) was an American historian, brother of Henry Van Dyke. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, graduated from Princeton in 1881 and from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1884, and studied at Berlin in 1884–85. He was a Presbyterian minister at Geneva, N. Y. in 1887–89, then taught church history at Princeton Theological Seminary (1889–92).

After serving as pastor at the Edwards Congregational Church in Northampton, Mass. (1892–98), he held the chair of modern European history at Princeton. He wrote The Age of the Renascence (1897), volume seven in a ten-volume series titled "Ten Epochs of Church History". In 1905, he published his book Renascence Portraits, which "...tries to illustrate the Renascence by describing three men who were affected by it and who were all living at the same time in Italy, England and Germany" (the three men are Pietro Aretino, Thomas Cromwell, and Maximilian I, Holy Roman Emperor).In 1921–22 and 1928–29, Van Dyke directed the Continental division of the American University Union in Europe, which was based in Paris. He was elected to the National Institute of Arts and Letters in 1927. At Princeton Theological Seminary, he taught classes using the German "seminar" method.

Paul van Dyk

Matthias Paul (pronounced [maˈtiːas ˈpaʊ̯l]), better known by his stage name Paul van Dyk (pronounced [fan ˈdʏk]; born 16 December 1971 in Eisenhüttenstadt, East Germany) is a German Grammy Award-winning electronic dance music DJ, musician and record producer. One of the first true superstar DJs, Paul van Dyk was the first artist to receive a Grammy nomination in the newly added category of Best Dance/Electronic album for his 2003 release Reflections. He was named the World's No. 1 DJ in both 2005 and 2006, something only few DJs have ever achieved. He was the first ever DJ to be named No. 1 by Mixmag in 2005. By 2008, he had sold over 3 million albums worldwide.

A trance producer starting in the early 1990s, Paul quickly achieved popularity with his remix of "Love Stimulation" by Humate on the record label MFS in 1993 and with his hit single "For an Angel" but, in recent times, he no longer likes to describe his music as trance, but rather simply as electronic music.

Paul van Dyk is currently the radio host of "Vonyc Sessions with Paul" on Dash Radio.

Little Mix

Little Mix are a British girl group formed in 2011, consisting of members Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Jesy Nelson. They were formed exclusively for the eighth series of The X Factor in 2011 and became the first, and so far, only group to win the competition. Following their victory, they signed with Simon Cowell's record label Syco Music and released a cover of Damien Rice's "Cannonball" as their winner's single.

Little Mix released their debut album DNA on 19 November 2012. It charted in the top 5 in eight countries, including number two in the UK and number four on the US Billboard 200. This made Little Mix the first girl group since The Pussycat Dolls to reach the U.S. top 5 with their debut album, as well as earning the highest debut U.S. chart position by a British girl group, breaking the record previously held by the Spice Girls, whose 1996 debut Spice debuted at number five. In 2015, they won Breakout Artist at the Teen Choice Awards in Los Angeles.

Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike

Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike are a Belgian DJ duo composed of brothers Dimitri Thivaios and Michael Thivaios. They currently hold the #1 spot on DJ Magazine's annual Top 100 DJs poll.

Musical career

Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike began to make their first steps as DJ's at the ages of 14/15. In their early years they made several appearances in small clubs and was the resident BeatFM radio DJ. Dimitri then left Flanders in 1999 and began touring Europe. He lived in Mallorca and then in Halkidiki, Greece before moving to Ibiza in 2003, where he was a resident in major clubs such as Privilege and Space.

After living in Mallorca and on the Canary Islands, he settled in Zante, Greece where he was a resident of Amnesia and The End in 2006. In autumn 2006, Dimitri returned to Belgium to work with his brother, Like Mike, and produced their first release "La Cocaina (Eivissa 2007)". His remix of "Work That Body", 2008 caught the attention of Axwell, who entrusted them with a remix of "Rotterdam City of Love" by Abel Ramos for his label Axtone.

Bob Ross

Robert Norman "Bob" Ross (October 29, 1942 – July 4, 1995) was an American painter, art instructor, and television host. He was best known as the creator and host of The Joy of Painting, an instructional television program that aired from 1983 to 1994 on PBS in the United States, and also aired in Canada, Latin America and Europe.

Biography

Early life

Ross was born in Daytona Beach, Florida, and raised in Orlando, Florida. He had a half-brother, Jim, whom he mentioned in passing on his show. While working as a carpenter with his father, Ross lost part of his left index finger, but it did not affect the way he held his palette while painting.

Personal life

Ross had two sons, Bob and Steven, with his first wife, Lynda Brown. Steven occasionally appeared on The Joy of Painting and became a Ross-certified instructor. The last episode of Season 1 was a question-and-answer forum in which Steven read a series of general "how-to" questions sent in by viewers during the season, and Bob answered them one at a time, technique by technique, until he had completed an entire painting.
