This video is about everything in the 2000 decade
This was truly a great assignment. I discovered there were many things that made the 2000 decade so special. Many ideas came into my head. I decided on doing a video tribute about the 2000's. As an ancient proverb states, "One picture is worth a thousand words." So many things were revolutionized in the 2000 decade and products that would change pop culture. My tribute begins by reminding the viewer of the greatest impacts of the decade. It starts with a video of Steve Jobs introducing the IPhone. The IPhone is created by Apple and was one of the most sought after products of the 2000s. It was an introduction to technology of the future; a stepping stone for better things to come. Next in the tribute I share a video of an event that would change the nation and our everyday lives as we know it, the tragedy of the 911. It was a time that revealed the evilness of the terrorist and the courage of the President and the United States to unite as a nation. Following the two video clips, I organized the remainder of the tribute to show pictures and clips of movies, commercials, products, events, posters, etc that I felt were introduced in the 2000s and influenced our society. The pictures were separated into categories; crisis and disasters; movies and commercials; memorable items and games and finally daily items that most people use every day but was invented not so long ago. I concluded the tribute with pictures of world records and moments that can't be forgotten.

2000s (decade)
The 2000s (pronounced "two-thousands") was a decade of the Gregorian calendar that began on January 1, 2000 and ended on December 31, 2009.
The growth of the Internet contributed to globalization during the decade, which allowed faster communication among people around the world.
The economic growth of the 2000s had considerable social, environmental and mass extinction consequences, raised demand for diminishing energy resources, and was still shown to be vulnerable as demonstrated during the Global Financial Crisis late in the decade.
Names for the decade
In the English-speaking world, a name for the decade was never universally accepted in the same manner as for decades such as the '80s, the '90s, etc.
Orthographically, the decade can be written as the "2000s" or the "'00s". Some people read "2000s" as "two-thousands", and thus simply refer to the decade as the "Two-Thousands", the "Twenty Hundreds", or the "Twenty-ohs". Some read it as the "00s" (pronounced "Ohs", "Oh Ohs", "Double Ohs" or "Ooze"), while others referred to it as the "Zeros". On January 1, 2000, the BBC listed the noughties (derived from "nought" a word used for zero in many English-speaking countries), as a potential moniker for the new decade. This has become a common name for the decade in the UK and Australia, as well as other Anglospheric countries.

Om Unit
HIDDEN ERROR: Usage of "children" is not recognized
Jim Coles (born ca. 1980), professionally known as Om Unit, is a London-based electronic producer and DJ known for his work in electronic music and drum and bass. Originally producing jungle, he then turned to turntablism under the name 2tall. Om Unit started to get into drum and bass by listening to artists such as Hype, Randal, and Kenny Ken on Kiss radio.
He first released under the name Om Unit in 2010, with the record label Civil Music. The next year, in 2011, he partnered with Machinedrum to create a jungle-based electronic duo. Om Unit also heads his own label, Cosmic Bridge, with the likes of Shigeto, Take, Moresounds, Kromestar and more. He was also selected to be a part of Red Bull Music Academy's class of 2011 in Madrid with Kidkanevil, Kutmah and others.

The Road
The Road is a 2006 novel by American writer Cormac McCarthy. It is a post-apocalyptic tale of a journey of a father and his young son over a period of several months, across a landscape blasted by an unspecified cataclysm that has destroyed most of civilization and, in the intervening years, almost all life on Earth. The novel was awarded the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and the James Tait Black Memorial Prize for Fiction in 2006.
The book was adapted to a film by the same name in 2009, directed by John Hillcoat.
Plot summary
An unnamed father and his young son journey across a grim post-apocalyptic landscape, some years after an unspecified disaster has caused another extinction event, destroying civilization and most life on Earth. The land is filled with ash and devoid of living animals and vegetation. Many of the remaining human survivors have resorted to cannibalism, scavenging the detritus of city and country alike for flesh. The boy's mother, pregnant with him at the time of the disaster, gave up hope and committed suicide some time before the story began, despite the father's pleas. Much of the book is written in the third person, with references to "the father" and "the son" or to "the man" and "the boy".

This is a very personal piece that reflects a state of being I have come to know very well over the past decade. It is somewhat autobiographical, but it takes different (yet thematically similar) elements of my existence over the past ten years and puts them all together at once. Therefore as a whole it is fictional, as nothing like it ever happened, nor could it have happened. Making this piece has allowed me to enter into a new chapter of my life, a chapter more free from the heavy weight that the character holds onto for safety.

This is a very personal piece that reflects a state of being I have come to know very well over the past decade. It is somewhat autobiographical, but it takes different (yet thematically similar) elements of my existence over the past ten years and puts them all together at once. Therefore as a whole it is fictional, as nothing like it ever happened, nor could it have happened. Making this piece has allowed me to enter into a new chapter of my life, a chapter more free from the heavy weight that the character holds onto for safety.

The revamp of Ignition's collage-y show open for ESPN features additional legendary players and coaches, updated treatments of the 1980s decade, new sound bites and re-designed weekly team matchup graphics. Ignition also directed and produced the GMC commercials bookending the open. For the updated 80's segment, we picked three pop-culture icons from that decade as references for our visuals: MTV, Tron and PacMan. Dennis Green and his famous quote about the Chicago Bears made it into a re-designed 2000s segment which now ends with NaVorro Bowman's spectacular touchdown on December 23, 2013, which sent the 49ers into last season's playoffs. Monday Night Football is one of ESPN’s highest-rated weekly programs and celebrates its 45th anniversary this season.

Sierra Leone is recovering from a decade-long civil war. A burgeoning music scene has allowed the youth, who once used guns to vent their frustration, to pick up microphones and make change in their country. In the early 2000s, young musicians sang against the ruling government and quickly became national icons. In 2007 the ruling party was voted out. In the 2012 elections, politicians try to buy these musicians to sing for them. With their credibility hanging in the balance, the musicians must decide to chose a political side or use their voice to keep the peace in a tense election between the President and an ex-coup leader.

This video is about everything in the 2000 decade
This was truly a great assignment. I discovered there were many things that made the 2000 decade so special. Many ideas came into my head. I decided on doing a video tribute about the 2000's. As an ancient proverb states, "One picture is worth a thousand words." So many things were revolutionized in the 2000 decade and products that would change pop culture. My tribute begins by reminding the viewer of the greatest impacts of the decade. It starts with a video of Steve Jobs introducing the IPhone. The IPhone is created by Apple and was one of the most sought after products of the 2000s. It was an introduction to technology of the future; a stepping stone for better things to come. Next in the tribute I share a video of an event that would change the nation and our everyday lives as we know it, the tragedy of the 911. It was a time that revealed the evilness of the terrorist and the courage of the President and the United States to unite as a nation. Following the two video clips, I organized the remainder of the tribute to show pictures and clips of movies, commercials, products, events, posters, etc that I felt were introduced in the 2000s and influenced our society. The pictures were separated into categories; crisis and disasters; movies and commercials; memorable items and games and finally daily items that most people use every day but was invented not so long ago. I concluded the tribute with pictures of world records and moments that can't be forgotten.

This is a very personal piece that reflects a state of being I have come to know very well over the past decade. It is somewhat autobiographical, but it takes different (yet thematically similar) elements of my existence over the past ten years and puts them all together at once. Therefore as a whole it is fictional, as nothing like it ever happened, nor could it have happened. Making this piece has allowed me to enter into a new chapter of my life, a chapter more free from the heavy weight that the character holds onto for safety.

The revamp of Ignition's collage-y show open for ESPN features additional legendary players and coaches, updated treatments of the 1980s decade, new sound bites and re-designed weekly team matchup graphics. Ignition also directed and produced the GMC commercials bookending the open.
For the updated 80's segment, we picked three pop-culture icons from that decade as references for our visuals: MTV, Tron and PacMan. Dennis Green and his famous quote about the Chicago Bears made it into a re-designed 2000s segment which now ends with NaVorro Bowman's spectacular touchdown on December 23, 2013, which sent the 49ers into last season's playoffs.

it is very instructive of the prominent changes that American Country music made between the 1940s
and the 1960s ( the decade to which many attribute the origins of modern Country music). Within this
song's lyrics there is a request from a broken-hearted man made to his lost lady love for a small token
of something that would help him always remember that she was in his life once. Also, on an external
level, the original 1949 song's version was filled with rural instruments (fiddles, steel guitars, etc.,) fitting the "Grand Ole Opry" form of its day while the 1957 version had changed to match the smoother style of its time with stronger vocals and orchestra instrumentals. Hank Lockin, who wrote and performed both mentioned versions of this song, found that his later version "caught fire" on the billboard charts (peaking at the # 5 place on the charts). In fact, "Send Me The Pillow That You Dream On" became such a hit that the song has found versions in nearly every musical genre. Scores of singers have made their own renditions of this song (beside Locklin) some of these include: Johnny Tillotson, Roy Rogers, The Browns, Dolly Parton, Dwight Yoakum, and one of the most popular versions (which happens to be my own personal favorite) the one by the late, Great, Dean Martin.

Threads is the debut album from London producer Om Unit, to be released on 28th October 2013 via Civil Music.
While this is a debut full length for Om Unit, real name Jim Coles, it is in fact the producer's fourth studio album, following from work in the 2000s under the name 2tall. Having reset the clock on his artistic output in 2010, Coles has spent the past three years refining a unique sound as Om Unit via collaborations with Machinedrum on Planet Mu, releases on Goldie's Metalheadz, dBridge's Exit Records and Civil Music, his own Cosmic Bridge label and the short-lived Phillip D. Kick alias that fleshed out the links between Chicago's footwork, jungle and slow/fast. The confluence of all this work takes full flight on Threads.
Across its fifteen tracks Threads articulates Om Unit's musical journey from his beginnings to the present. It references his hip hop background, in the swung out, hypnotic headnod of 'Wall of Light' and the positive message of 'Just Sayin'', a collaboration with the mysterious Gone The Hero, (who will be stepping out of the shadows on Jneiro Jarel's Label Who imprint in 2014,) and touches on the music that has impacted him in recent years such as dubstep, the bassweight of which anchors the album. Dubstep's influence is most obvious in the eyes-down roller 'Nagual' and the deeply emotive 'The Silence' featuring vocalist Jinadu. There are also hints of slow-mo house's chug, a sound Coles first experimented with upon taking the Om Unit name. It's this slow groove that drives the spellbinding 'Patients' featuring Young Echo's MC Jabu, who gives life to the beat with poetic raps, and it's also central to the 2013 reworking of 'The Corridor', a track from the first Om Unit release. Here Coles slows the original's key elements down even further while managing to keep all the slow moving, hypnotic magic of the original.
Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, the album is grounded in Coles' junglistic roots, a relationship that has driven much of his recent output and DJ work. Here it takes on its most refined form yet, equally apparent throughout but obviously manifested on the most dancefloor friendly tracks: 'Jaguar', 'Wicker and Pearl' and 'Governer's Bay'. These three tracks close the album but not before one more parting shot, the deeply meaningful 'The Road' featuring London's urban poet, and legend, Charlie Dark.
A key part of the Threads experience is how the tracklisting presents the music, balancing introspective and energetic moments, instrumental and vocal. While stand out moments can be picked, as they are sure to, Threads is an album that works best when the listener lets him or herself be guided by its creator.
It is perhaps cliché for a label to claim that their next release is a standout, or even a classic, record yet Coles' maturation as a producer over the past decade has allowed him to synthesise all these influences and references into something coherent and unique that takes the listener on a personal yet accessible journey. As such Threads truly feels like it has that classic potential.

Considered as one of electronic music's most forward thinking artists, SQUAREPUSHER joins THE PLAYGROUND FESTIVAL this year on the 7th + 8th June @ the incredible 02 Academy Brixton. Expecting in nearly 10 000 people across the weekend and hosting some of the biggest names in electronic music that has ever been the festival has already been touted as an emerging SONAR Festival by the likes of DJ MAG amongst others.
Following the critically acclaimed release of 'Ufabulum' on Warp Records last year, Squarepusher's AV show is an audiovisual barrage of brutal rythms and laser guided melodies wowing crowds worldwide from SONAR to L.A.'s HARDFEST and the Roundhouse in Camden recently.
Tom Jenkinson has stated that "It's music which is generated purely from programming. There's no live guitar or drums, there's nothing in it which is live, really at all."
Featuring a giant synapse shorting LED display designed and programmed by himself SQUAREPUSHER has reasserted himself in the electronic music pantheon. It's an intense show that feels like nothing else you'll see this year.
Joining him for the Saturday line-up, GARY NUMAN is a man that needs little introduction. Since his groundbreaking work and named as one of the figureheads of the electronic movement in the late 70s and early 80s, Gary Numan has been a pioneer of forward-thinking electronic music and a living legend to the UK's musical history. Since the release of his breakthrough track 'Cars' in 1979, Numan has gone on to have a glittering career that still holds strong today. With every passing year, Gary Numan has kept true to himself by breaking barriers and creating diverse and interesting electronic music that wins him new fans every day.
Joining Gary and SQUAREPUSHER on the Saturday will be two of the founding fathers of the Detroit techno scene, DERRICK MAY and KEVIN SAUNDERSON who together reinvented the techno sound in the 80s and have gone on to be two of the most respected tastemakers on the scene today.
While top of Friday's bill is DIGITALISM who will be performing a rare LIVE show with support from LEFTFIELD and one of the founding members of alternative electronic duo UNKLE, JAMES LAVELLE, a true staple of the UK's music scene. Forming the group, alongside DJ Shadow, in 1996, UNKLE are regarded as one of the most groundbreaking electronic groups the world has ever seen. Their debut album 'Psyence Fiction' is regularly brought up as one of the greatest albums of all time and since then UNKLE went on to produce a further two LPs, 'Never, Never Land' and 'Where Did The Night Fall'. But Lavelle's career has far more spokes than just UNKLE. As a long-serving resident at Fabric, he has produced a mix for the infamous FablicLive series as well as a further three mix albums for Global Underground.
We are also serving up German house duo BOOKA SHADE, who have been a staple of the world's clubbing consciousness for more than a decade. Since the early 2000s, Booka Shade have been creating and pushing their sound through their self-conceived label Get Physical, resulting in four critically acclaimed albums with numerous singles and remixes to boot. After almost a three-year absence from their productions, Booka Shade returned earlier this month with a new EP 'Haleshop', that the pair lovingly dished out for free to their fans. It's clear that Booka Shade are back to their best in 2013 and will now doubt bring their impressive live show to full power this summer.

Their debut album 'Psyence Fiction' is regularly brought up as one of the greatest albums of all time and since then UNKLE went on to produce a further two LPs, 'Never, Never Land' and 'Where Did The Night Fall'. But Lavelle's career has far more spokes than just UNKLE. As a long-serving resident at Fabric, he has produced a mix for the infamous FablicLive series as well as a further three mix albums for Global Underground.
We are also serving up German house duo BOOKA SHADE, who have been a staple of the world's clubbing consciousness for more than a decade. Since the early 2000s, Booka Shade have been creating and pushing their sound through their self-conceived label Get Physical, resulting in four critically acclaimed albums with numerous singles and remixes to boot. After almost a three-year absence from their productions, Booka Shade returned earlier this month with a new EP 'Haleshop', that the pair lovingly dished out for free to their fans. It's clear that Booka Shade are back to their best in 2013 and will now doubt bring their impressive live show to full power this summer.

In the early 2000s, young musicians sang against the ruling government and quickly became national icons. In 2007 the ruling party was voted out. In the 2012 elections, politicians try to buy these musicians to sing for them. With their credibility hanging in the balance, the musicians must decide to chose a political side or use their voice to keep the peace in a tense election between the President and an ex-coup leader.

I decided on doing a video tribute about the 2000's. As an ancient proverb states, "One picture is worth a thousand words." So many things were revolutionized in the 2000 decade and products that would change pop culture. My tribute begins by reminding the viewer of the greatest impacts of the decade. This is a very personal piece that reflects a state of being I have come to know very well over the past decade. It is somewhat autobiographical, but it takes different (yet thematically similar) elements of my existence over the past ten years and puts them all together at once. Therefore as a whole it is fictional, as nothing like it ever happened, nor could it have happened. Making this piece has allowed me to enter into a new chapter of my life, a chapter more free from the heavy weight that the character holds onto for safety.

The pictures were separated into categories; crisis and disasters; movies and commercials; memorable items and games and finally daily items that most people use every day but was invented not so long ago. This is a very personal piece that reflects a state of being I have come to know very well over the past decade. It is somewhat autobiographical, but it takes different (yet thematically similar) elements of my existence over the past ten years and puts them all together at once. Therefore as a whole it is fictional, as nothing like it ever happened, nor could it have happened. Making this piece has allowed me to enter into a new chapter of my life, a chapter more free from the heavy weight that the character holds onto for safety.

The revamp of Ignition's collage-y show open for ESPN features additional legendary players and coaches, updated treatments of the 1980s decade, new sound bites and re-designed weekly team matchup graphics. Ignition also directed and produced the GMC commercials bookending the open.
For the updated 80's segment, we picked three pop-culture icons from that decade as references for our visuals: MTV, Tron and PacMan. Dennis Green and his famous quote about the Chicago Bears made it into a re-designed 2000s segment which now ends with NaVorro Bowman's spectacular touchdown on December 23, 2013, which sent the 49ers into last season's playoffs.

The song "Send Me The Pillow That You Dream On" is not only a beautiful expression of lost love but
it is very instructive of the prominent changes that American Country music made between the 1940s
and the 1960s ( the decade to which many attribute the origins of modern Country music). Within this
song's lyrics there is a request from a broken-hearted man made to his lost lady love for a small token
of something that would help him always remember that she was in his life once. Also, on an external
level, the original 1949 song's version was filled with rural instruments (fiddles, steel guitars, etc.,) fitting the "Grand Ole Opry" form of its day while the 1957 version had changed to match the smoother style of its time with stronger vocals and orchestra instrumentals. Hank Lockin, who wrote and performed both mentioned versions of this song, found that his later version "caught fire" on the billboard charts (peaking at the # 5 place on the charts). In fact, "Send Me The Pillow That You Dream On" became such a hit that the song has found versions in nearly every musical genre. Scores of singers have made their own renditions of this song (beside Locklin) some of these include: Johnny Tillotson, Roy Rogers, The Browns, Dolly Parton, Dwight Yoakum, and one of the most popular versions (which happens to be my own personal favorite) the one by the late, Great, Dean Martin.
Why I Chose To Cover This Song

The reason chose to cover this song is that, I believe, this song (its wording) is representative of
nearly everyone in some way. Almost all of us have lost someone who represented the essence of
Love in our lives. Well, again I believe, this song demonstrates that it is perfectly normal to want to
retain good, warm, memories of someone you've been close to, even after they are no longer part of
your physical, daily, life. In other words, after all the heartache, love remains.

Threads is the debut album from London producer Om Unit, to be released on 28th October 2013 via Civil Music.
While this is a debut full length for Om Unit, real name Jim Coles, it is in fact the producer's fourth studio album, following from work in the 2000s under the name 2tall. Having reset the clock on his artistic output in 2010, Coles has spent the past three years refining a unique sound as Om Unit via collaborations with Machinedrum on Planet Mu, releases on Goldie's Metalheadz, dBridge's Exit Records and Civil Music, his own Cosmic Bridge label and the short-lived Phillip D. Kick alias that fleshed out the links between Chicago's footwork, jungle and slow/fast. The confluence of all this work takes full flight on Threads.
Across its fifteen tracks Threads articulates Om Unit's musical journey from his beginnings to the present. It references his hip hop background, in the swung out, hypnotic headnod of 'Wall of Light' and the positive message of 'Just Sayin'', a collaboration with the mysterious Gone The Hero, (who will be stepping out of the shadows on Jneiro Jarel's Label Who imprint in 2014,) and touches on the music that has impacted him in recent years such as dubstep, the bassweight of which anchors the album. Dubstep's influence is most obvious in the eyes-down roller 'Nagual' and the deeply emotive 'The Silence' featuring vocalist Jinadu. There are also hints of slow-mo house's chug, a sound Coles first experimented with upon taking the Om Unit name. It's this slow groove that drives the spellbinding 'Patients' featuring Young Echo's MC Jabu, who gives life to the beat with poetic raps, and it's also central to the 2013 reworking of 'The Corridor', a track from the first Om Unit release. Here Coles slows the original's key elements down even further while managing to keep all the slow moving, hypnotic magic of the original.
Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, the album is grounded in Coles' junglistic roots, a relationship that has driven much of his recent output and DJ work. Here it takes on its most refined form yet, equally apparent throughout but obviously manifested on the most dancefloor friendly tracks: 'Jaguar', 'Wicker and Pearl' and 'Governer's Bay'. These three tracks close the album but not before one more parting shot, the deeply meaningful 'The Road' featuring London's urban poet, and legend, Charlie Dark.
A key part of the Threads experience is how the tracklisting presents the music, balancing introspective and energetic moments, instrumental and vocal. While stand out moments can be picked, as they are sure to, Threads is an album that works best when the listener lets him or herself be guided by its creator.
It is perhaps cliché for a label to claim that their next release is a standout, or even a classic, record yet Coles' maturation as a producer over the past decade has allowed him to synthesise all these influences and references into something coherent and unique that takes the listener on a personal yet accessible journey. As such Threads truly feels like it has that classic potential.

Considered as one of electronic music's most forward thinking artists, SQUAREPUSHER joins THE PLAYGROUND FESTIVAL this year on the 7th + 8th June @ the incredible 02 Academy Brixton. Expecting in nearly 10 000 people across the weekend and hosting some of the biggest names in electronic music that has ever been the festival has already been touted as an emerging SONAR Festival by the likes of DJ MAG amongst others.
Following the critically acclaimed release of 'Ufabulum' on Warp Records last year, Squarepusher's AV show is an audiovisual barrage of brutal rythms and laser guided melodies wowing crowds worldwide from SONAR to L.A.'s HARDFEST and the Roundhouse in Camden recently.
Tom Jenkinson has stated that "It's music which is generated purely from programming. There's no live guitar or drums, there's nothing in it which is live, really at all."
Featuring a giant synapse shorting LED display designed and programmed by himself SQUAREPUSHER has reasserted himself in the electronic music pantheon. It's an intense show that feels like nothing else you'll see this year.
Joining him for the Saturday line-up, GARY NUMAN is a man that needs little introduction. Since his groundbreaking work and named as one of the figureheads of the electronic movement in the late 70s and early 80s, Gary Numan has been a pioneer of forward-thinking electronic music and a living legend to the UK's musical history. Since the release of his breakthrough track 'Cars' in 1979, Numan has gone on to have a glittering career that still holds strong today. With every passing year, Gary Numan has kept true to himself by breaking barriers and creating diverse and interesting electronic music that wins him new fans every day.
Joining Gary and SQUAREPUSHER on the Saturday will be two of the founding fathers of the Detroit techno scene, DERRICK MAY and KEVIN SAUNDERSON who together reinvented the techno sound in the 80s and have gone on to be two of the most respected tastemakers on the scene today.
While top of Friday's bill is DIGITALISM who will be performing a rare LIVE show with support from LEFTFIELD and one of the founding members of alternative electronic duo UNKLE, JAMES LAVELLE, a true staple of the UK's music scene. Forming the group, alongside DJ Shadow, in 1996, UNKLE are regarded as one of the most groundbreaking electronic groups the world has ever seen. Their debut album 'Psyence Fiction' is regularly brought up as one of the greatest albums of all time and since then UNKLE went on to produce a further two LPs, 'Never, Never Land' and 'Where Did The Night Fall'. But Lavelle's career has far more spokes than just UNKLE. As a long-serving resident at Fabric, he has produced a mix for the infamous FablicLive series as well as a further three mix albums for Global Underground.
We are also serving up German house duo BOOKA SHADE, who have been a staple of the world's clubbing consciousness for more than a decade. Since the early 2000s, Booka Shade have been creating and pushing their sound through their self-conceived label Get Physical, resulting in four critically acclaimed albums with numerous singles and remixes to boot. After almost a three-year absence from their productions, Booka Shade returned earlier this month with a new EP 'Haleshop', that the pair lovingly dished out for free to their fans. It's clear that Booka Shade are back to their best in 2013 and will now doubt bring their impressive live show to full power this summer.
