Basu Chatterjee (Bengali: বাসু চ্যাটার্জ্জী; born 10 January 1930) is an Indian film director and screenwriter. Through the 1970s and 80s, he became associated with what came to be known as middle cinema or middle-of-the road cinema, with film makers like Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Basu Bhattacharya, whom he assisted in Teesri Kasam (1966). Like them, his films also dealt with light-hearted stories of middle-class families often in urban settings, focussing on marital and love relationships, with exceptions like Ek Ruka Hua Faisla (1986) and Kamla Ki Maut (1989), which delved into social and moral issues. He is best known for his films Chhoti Si Baat (1976), Chitchor (1976), Rajnigandha (1974), Piya Ka Ghar (1972), Baton Baton Mein (1979) and Shaukeen (1982).
Basu Chatterjee was born in Ajmer, Rajasthan, India.
Chatterjee started his career as an illustrator and cartoonist with weekly tabloid, Blitz published in Bombay (now Mumbai) by Russi Karanjia. Here he worked for 18 years, before he changed career paths to filmmaking when he assisted Basu Bhattacharya in Raj Kapoor and Waheeda Rehman starrer, Teesri Kasam (1966), which later won National Film Award for Best Feature Film. Eventually he made his directorial debut with Sara Akash in 1969, which won him Filmfare Best Screenplay Award.
Vidya Sinha (born 15 November 1947, Mumbai) is an Indian actress who has acted in Bollywood films, most known for Rajnigandha (1974) and Chhoti Si Baat (1975).
Sinha was born in Mumbai to Rana Pratap Singh, an Indian film producer, son-in-law of film director Mohan Sinha a.k.a. Sd. Maan Singh, resident of village Jodhawali, Punjab, Undivided India.
She began modelling and acting at the age of 18. She was Miss Bombay and modelled for several brands which led to her discovery by Basu Chatterjee. Her first movie, however, came after marriage - her debut was in Raja Kaka (1974) opposite Kiran Kumar. However, fame came to her through a low-budget, alternative cinema break-away hit Rajnigandha (1974), directed by her mentor Basu Chatterjee. The movie, although having none of the trappings of a typical Bollywood blockbuster, was a major box office success. This was followed by many more small-budget films like Choti Si Baat (1975), and later by more mainstream, bigger budget Bollywood productions like Pati Patni Aur Woh (1977). She is known for her pleasant roles in various movies she acted during her active career life. She did 30 movie roles over a period of 12 years.
Amol Palekar (born 24 November 1944) is an Indian actor and a director and producer of Hindi and Marathi cinema.
He studied Fine Arts at the Sir JJ School of Arts, Mumbai, and commenced his artistic career as a painter. As a painter, he had seven one-man exhibitions and participated in many group shows. He has been active in the avant garde theatre in India. He has been active in Marathi and Hindi theatre as an actor, director and producer since 1967. His contribution to modern Indian theatre often gets overshadowed by his popularity as a lead actor in Hindi films..
As an actor, he was most prominent for over a decade from 1970. His image as a "boy next door" contrasted with the larger-than-life heroes prevalent at that time in Indian cinema. He received one Filmfare and six State awards as Best Actor. His performances in regional language films in Marathi, Bengali, Malayalam and Kannada fetched him critical acclaim as well. He decided not to act after 1986 in order to concentrate on filmmaking.
F.I.R. is an Indian television sitcom that aired from 31 July 2006 to 23 January 2015, on SAB TV. The show was produced by Edit II Productions . The sitcom was nominated for the Best Sitcom category at the Indian Telly Awards in 2009. The sitcom was set in a police station.
F.I.R. is an acronym for First Information Report that the Indian police prepares for each case to be investigated.
FIR is a situational comedy serial centered on a Haryanvi female police officer named Chandramukhi Chautala and her three subordinates, head constable Gopinath Gandothra, constable Mulayam Singh Gulgule and constable Billu. The show depicted their lives as they try to solve every case which comes to Imaan Chowki .
New cases come to the police station in every episode. An individual or a group come with a complaint or a problem. The problem generally has nothing to do with police. It may be a case of love, divorce, snoring, or bad cooking. Chandramukhi Chautala and her constables solve the case successfully though the case has nothing to do with their official duties as police officers.
Utpal Dutt (Bengali: উৎপল দত্ত Utpôl Dôtto, listen ) (29 March 1929 – 19 August 1993) was an Indian actor, director, and writer-playwright. He was primarily an actor in Bengali theatre, where he became a pioneering figure in Modern Indian theatre, when he founded the 'Little Theater Group' in 1947, which enacted many English, Shakespearean and Brecht plays, in a period now known as the 'Epic theater' period, before immersing itself completely in highly political and radical theatre. His plays became apt vehicle of the expression for his Marxist ideologies, visible in socio-political plays like, Kallol (1965), Manusher Adhikar, Louha Manob (1964), Tiner Toloar and Maha-Bidroha. He also acted over 100 Bengali and Hindi films in his career spanning 40 years, and remains most known for his roles in films like Mrinal Sen’s Bhuvan Shome (1969), Satyajit Ray’s Agantuk (1991), Gautam Ghose’s Padma Nadir Majhi (1993) and Hrishikesh Mukherjee's breezy Hindi comedies such as Gol Maal (1979) and Rang Birangi (1983).
