Boston (pronounced i/ˈbɒstən/) is the capital and largest city of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the United States. Boston also served as the historic county seat of Suffolk County until Massachusetts disbanded county government in 1999. The city proper covers 48 square miles (124 km2) with an estimated population of 655,884 in 2014, making it the largest city in New England and the 24th largest city in the United States. The city is the economic and cultural anchor of a substantially larger metropolitan area called Greater Boston, home to 4.7 million people and the tenth-largest metropolitan statistical area in the country. Greater Boston as a commuting region is home to 8.1 million people, making it the sixth-largest combined statistical area in the United States.
One of the oldest cities in the United States, Boston was founded on the Shawmut Peninsula in 1630 by Puritan settlers from England. It was the scene of several key events of the American Revolution, such as the Boston Massacre, the Boston Tea Party, the Battle of Bunker Hill, and the Siege of Boston. Upon American independence from Great Britain, the city continued to be an important port and manufacturing hub, as well as a center for education and culture. Through land reclamation and municipal annexation, Boston has expanded beyond the original peninsula. Its rich history attracts many tourists, with Faneuil Hall alone drawing over 20 million visitors per year. Boston's many firsts include the United States' first public school, Boston Latin School (1635), and first subway system (1897).
A taxicab, also known as a taxi or a cab, is a type of vehicle for hire with a driver, used by a single passenger or small group of passengers, often for a non-shared ride. A taxicab conveys passengers between locations of their choice. This differs from other modes of public transport where the pick-up and drop-off locations are determined by the service provider, not by the passenger, although demand responsive transport and share taxis provide a hybrid bus/taxi mode.
There are four distinct forms of taxicab, which can be identified by slightly differing terms in different countries:
Logan International Airport (officially General Edward Lawrence Logan International Airport)(IATA: BOS, ICAO: KBOS, FAA LID: BOS) is an international airport located in the East Boston neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts, United States, (and partly in the town of Winthrop, Massachusetts). It covers 2,384 acres (965 ha), has six runways, and employs an estimated 16,000 people. Logan is the largest airport in New England and 18th busiest airport in the United States, with 33.5 million total passengers in 2015.
The airport serves as a focus city for JetBlue, who carries out the largest operations from Logan International Airport, as well as a hub for Delta Air Lines. The regional airline Cape Air and commuter airline PenAir all carry out hub operations from Boston. United Airlines and American Airlines also carry out many operations from the airport. All of the major U.S. air carriers offer flights from Boston to all or the majority of their primary and secondary hubs. It is also a destination of many major European airlines. Logan Airport has previously served as a hub for American Eagle, Braniff International Airways, and Northeast Airlines, as well as a focus city for AirTran Airways, American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Continental Connection, Pan American World Airways, Trans World Airlines, and US Airways.
An international airport is an airport that offers customs and immigration facilities for passengers travelling between countries. International airports are typically larger than domestic airports and often feature longer runways and facilities to accommodate the heavier aircraft commonly used for international and intercontinental travel. International airports often also host domestic flights. Some, such as Frankfurt Airport in Germany are very large; others such as Fa'a'ā International Airport in Tahiti, are quite small.
Buildings, operations and management have become increasingly sophisticated since the mid 20th century, when international airports began to provide infrastructure for international civilian flights. Detailed technical standards have been developed to ensure safety and common coding systems implemented to provide global consistency. The physical structures that serve millions of individual passengers and flights are among the most complex and interconnected in the world. By the second decade of the 21st century, there were over 1,200 international airports and almost two billion international passengers along with 50 million metric tonnes of cargo were passing through them annually.
"The Man" is a slang phrase that may refer to the government or to some other authority in a position of power. In addition to this derogatory connotation, it may also serve as a term of respect and praise.
The phrase "the Man is keeping me down" is commonly used to describe oppression. The phrase "stick it to the Man" encourages resistance to authority, and essentially means "fight back" or "resist", either passively, openly or via sabotage.
As a phrase meaning "the boss" it dates from at least 1918.
In the Southern U.S. states, the phrase came to be applied to any man or any group in a position of authority, or to authority in the abstract. From about the 1950s the phrase was also an underworld code word for police, the warden of a prison or other law enforcement or penal authorities.
The use of this term was expanded to counterculture groups and their battles against authority, such as the Yippies, which, according to a May 19, 1969 article in U.S. News and World Report, had the "avowed aim ... to destroy 'The Man', their term for the present system of government". The term eventually found its way into humorous usage, such as in a December 1979 motorcycle ad from the magazine Easyriders which featured the tagline, "California residents: Add 6% sales tax for The Man."

A Boston cab driver found $187,000 in cash in his taxi last week and immediately tried to return it. "My mother always said, 'Do the right thing,'" he told WFXT. Raymond "Buzzy" MacCausland told local media he gave a ride to a man who said he had been homeless for six months. The man got out of the car and said he'd be right back. The man didn't return, and he left his backpack behind. So MacCausland drove to the man's hotel to return the backpack. He looked in the bag to find some ID and ended up finding something else. SEE MORE: "This Officer Was Just Trying To Help An Emu, But Things Got Heated" "I saw these three bundles, you know, it looked like maybe $20,000 to $30,000. I didn't know — the whole bag was full," MacCausland told NECN. When he couldn't find the man, MacCausland...
(Boston Globe) Federal agents execute search warrant at headquarters of Boston Cab. By Matthew J. Lee/Globe Staff
A taxi cab driver reportedly mistook his accelerator for his brake pedal and hit pedestrians near Logan Airport, police say.
Ten people have been taken to local hospitals after a taxicab jumped a curb and drove into a group of cabdrivers taking a break in an area outside the taxi pool building near Logan International Airport, officials said.
I included a bit of xtra tiem for context as I chose to run the stale yellow instead of mashing on my brakes at 22 mph. I entered the intersection about even with the back bumper of the red car and as you can see the light was red immediately after I entered the intersection. I move to the right to take the lane as there are multiple delivery vehicles and lots of doors opening in the road ahead not to mention the construction zone that is approaching as a taxi who must have run the fully red light passes me on the right with little room to spare. I had nowhere to go and guess its my fault for not being smack dab in the middle of the lane. There are probably 4 policemen on this stretch of road and this is a main bikeway into downtown - yet I never see any corrective efforts made by the BPD ...

Travel video about destination Boston in the United States of America. Boston has over half a million inhabitants and is the largest of New England's cities. As its most important commercial and financial centre, the city on the Charles River has always played an historic role and was the cradle of Independence. In the centre of Boston, Copley Square features the Trinity Church, which contrasts with the modern Hancock Tower that dominates the skyline. Park Street Church was where, in 1829, William Garrison gave his first anti-slavery speech. In the adjacent Granary Burial Ground, some of America's most famous sons are buried, such as John Hancock, Samuel Adams and Paul Revere. Beacon Hill has hardly changed over the past 150 years, an architectural gem with narrow, winding cobbled street...
