Bali is an island and province of Indonesia. The province includes the island of Bali and a few smaller neighbouring islands, notably Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan, and Nusa Ceningan. It is located at the westernmost end of the Lesser Sunda Islands, between Java to the west and Lombok to the east. Its capital of Denpasar is located at the southern part of the island.
With a population of 3,890,757 in the 2010 census, and 4,225,000 as of January 2014, the island is home to most of Indonesia's Hindu minority. According to the 2010 Census, 83.5% of Bali's population adhered to Balinese Hinduism, followed by 13.4% Muslim, Christianity at 2.5%, and Buddhism 0.5%.
Bali is a popular tourist destination, which has seen a significant rise in tourists since the 1980s. It is renowned for its highly developed arts, including traditional and modern dance, sculpture, painting, leather, metalworking, and music. The Indonesian International Film Festival is held every year in Bali.
Bali is part of the Coral Triangle, the area with the highest biodiversity of marine species. In this area alone over 500 reef building coral species can be found. For comparison, this is about 7 times as many as in the entire Caribbean. There is a wide range of dive sites with high quality reefs, all with their own specific attractions. Many sites can have strong currents and swell, so diving without a knowledgeable guide is inadvisable. Most recently, Bali was the host of the 2011 ASEAN Summit, 2013 APEC and Miss World 2013.
Musik may refer to:
Music is an art form and cultural activity whose medium is sound and silence. The common elements of music are pitch (which governs melody and harmony), rhythm (and its associated concepts tempo, meter, and articulation), dynamics (loudness and softness), and the sonic qualities of timbre and texture (which are sometimes termed the "color" of a musical sound). Different styles or types of music may emphasize, de-emphasize or omit some of these elements. Music is performed with a vast range of instruments and with vocal techniques ranging from singing to rapping, and there are solely instrumental pieces, solely vocal pieces and pieces that combine singing and instruments. The word derives from Greek μουσική (mousike; "art of the Muses"). In its most general form, the activities describing music as an art form include the production of works of music (songs, tunes, symphonies, and so on), the criticism of music, the study of the history of music, and the aesthetic examination of music. Ancient Greek and Indian philosophers defined music as tones ordered horizontally as melodies and vertically as harmonies. Common sayings such as "the harmony of the spheres" and "it is music to my ears" point to the notion that music is often ordered and pleasant to listen to. However, 20th-century composer John Cage thought that any sound can be music, saying, for example, "There is no noise, only sound."
World music is a musical category encompassing many different styles of music from around the globe, which includes many genres of non-Western music including folk music, ethnic music, traditional music, indigenous music, neotraditional music, and music where more than one cultural tradition, such as when ethnic music and Western popular music intermingle. World music's inclusive nature and elasticity as a musical category pose obstacles to a universal definition, but its ethic of interest in the culturally exotic is encapsulated in Roots magazine's description of the genre as "local music from out there". The term was popularized in the 1980s as a marketing category for non-Western traditional music.Globalization has facilitated the expansion of world music's audiences and scope. It has grown to include hybrid subgenres such as world fusion, global fusion, ethnic fusion and worldbeat.
The term has been credited to ethnomusicologist Robert E. Brown, who coined it in the early 1960s at Wesleyan University in Connecticut, where he developed undergraduate through the doctoral programs in the discipline. To enhance the process of learning, he invited more than a dozen visiting performers from Africa and Asia and began a world music concert series. The term became current in the 1980s as a marketing/classificatory device in the media and the music industry. There are several conflicting definitions for world music. One is that it consists of "all the music in the world", though such a broad definition renders the term virtually meaningless.
Gamelan (/ˈɡæməlæn/) is the traditional ensemble music of Java and Bali in Indonesia, made up predominantly of percussive instruments. The most common instruments used are metallophones played by mallets and a set of hand-played drums called kendhang which register the beat. Other instruments include xylophones, bamboo flutes, a bowed instrument called a rebab, and even vocalists called sindhen.
Although the popularity of gamelan has declined since the introduction of pop music, gamelan is still commonly played on formal occasions and in many traditional Indonesian ceremonies. For most Indonesians, gamelan is an integral part of Indonesian culture.
The word gamelan comes from the low Javanese word gamel, which may refer to a type of mallet used to strike instruments or the act of striking with a mallet. The term karawitan refers to the playing of gamelan instruments, and comes from the word rawit, meaning 'intricate' or 'finely worked'. The word derives from the Javanese word of Sanskrit origin, rawit, which refers to the sense of smoothness and elegance idealized in Javanese music. Another word from this root, pangrawit, means a person with such sense, and is used as an honorific when discussing esteemed gamelan musicians. The high Javanese word for gamelan is gangsa, formed either from the words tembaga and rejasa referring to the materials used in bronze gamelan construction (copper and tin), or tiga and sedasa referring to their proportions (three and ten).

Bali Island is one of the thousands islands constructing the Indonesian Archipelago that has long been famous as a leading tourist destination in South Pacific or even in the world for its exotic and vibrant art and culture, natural beauties and the hospitality of the people. Balinese Gamelan music is similar to Javanese Gamelan music. The music is in cycle too, however, it is usually faster. One of the characteristic of Balinese gamelan music is that, it has a lot of sudden changes in tempo and dynamics. Like the Javanese gamelan, the instruments in Balinese gamelan includes metallophones and gongs. However, there are more metallophones than gongs in Balinese gamelan. The metal keys in Balinese metallophones are ticker than those of Javanese. These Balinese metallophones produc...

Travel video about destination Bali Paradise in Indonesia. Bali is part of the largest island kingdom in the world, the State of Indonesia. Denpasar has been the capital of Bali since 1946 and was once the seat of the homonymous principality of Badung. The small village situated around the Pemecutan Raja Palace, soon developed into a bustling city. The city’s oldest Hindu temple dates from the fourteenth century and was established by the envoy of the Majapahit Empire. At the entrance to the Monkey Forest near the town of Ubud, the famous saint monkeys welcome those who come here. The cheeky little macaques are thought to be descendants of mythical monkey king, Hanoman. Gamelan music and Legong dance are part of Bali’s culture. The movement of the body, and especially the position of the...

Bali - this word evokes a lot of thoughts: the tropical paradise, far away (at least from Austria), very exotic. While all of this is true, what fascinated me even more was that special mood, that atmosphere, "a tropical state of mind". The Balinese are a very generous, warm people, deeply entrenched in their tradition, which is still incredibly alive. Their style of living, family values, culture - an exceptional experience, which they share with you everywhere, around every corner. I was thinking a lot how to convey this mood, this relaxed atmosphere and feeling - for me the best way was to have a very slow paced film, showing the exceptional beauty of this little island and their inhabitants. Therefore, I invite you to immerse yourself into "The Bali Experience". Pump up the volume f...
The beautiful province of Bali lies between the islands of Java and Lombok. The south of Bali is known for its sandy beaches and great surf. The crescent-shaped Kuta Beach has been a popular coastal resort since the 1960s. Legian, Double Six and Seminyak are three more of south Bali's finest beaches. Close to Seminyak is Petitenget Temple. Today, this centuries-old place of worship is alive with restaurants and fashion boutiques. Uluwatu is another of Bali's temple, this one perched dramatically atop a cliff. In the west of Bali is Jimbaran, renowned for its seafood restaurants. Bali is awash with exotic wildlife. Bali Bird Park is a sanctuary to over 1000 birds from Indonesia and beyond. Bali Zoo gives visitors the chance to ride on the back of an elephant. The Sacred Monkey Forest...

In this movie from our trip through Indonesia, you will see all kinds of highlights from Java and Bali. After landing in Jakarta we quickly go to Gunung Halimun National Park. We stay at home with a local guide and visit a tea plantation, a tea factory and of course the surrounding jungles. It takes us 2 days to get from Citalahab (in Halimun) to get to Pangandaran beach. Here we learn to surf, take a swim in the Green Valley and visit a traditional Wajang puppet maker. From Pangandaran we head to Yogyakarta by train and visit the Borobudur temple. From Yogyakarta we travel to the magnificent Bromo volcano and its surroundings, followed by the even more stunning Ijen volcano. After these long days we have some relaxing time on the route to Sukamade. In the evening we found a turtle on the...

Bali has always been known globally for its great surf where you can confidently say that most of us here in Singapore, has been to it at least once in our lifetime. Only 2.5 hours away by plane, the land of Gods, as it was always been referred to, Bali served as a quick getaway holiday destination for some fun in the sun, a good surf, awesome seafood and endless parties. When Fahmie brought up the plan of hitting the trails of Bali, after his conversations with Alex of ChillHouse, it’s an invitation that most of us couldn't resist. Around the same time last year, I was cyclo camping, in East Java – Baluran National Park and since then, the addiction to want more dirt riding adventure is no longer suppressible. So, couple of weeks ago, myself and 9 others took on a different journey ...

Villa 342, named after a famous early 20th century hotel offering guests a captivating journey through time, combining nostalgic luxury with the exemplary services of personal butlers and top class chefs. Destined to be demolished, the owners rescued it and waited until the perfect site was available to rebuild. Transporting each piece to Bali, the Joglo was transformed as the social centrepiece of what ...
