John Marwood Cleese (/ˈkliːz/; born 27 October 1939) is an English actor, comedian, writer and film producer. He achieved success at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and as a scriptwriter and performer on The Frost Report. In the late 1960s, he co-founded Monty Python, the comedy troupe responsible for the sketch show Monty Python's Flying Circus and the four Monty Python films: And Now for Something Completely Different, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Life of Brian and The Meaning of Life.
In the mid-1970s, Cleese and his first wife, Connie Booth, co-wrote and starred in the British sitcom Fawlty Towers. Later, he co-starred with Kevin Kline, Jamie Lee Curtis and former Python colleague Michael Palin in A Fish Called Wanda and Fierce Creatures, both of which he also wrote. He also starred in Clockwise, and has appeared in many other films, including two James Bond films as Q, two Harry Potter films, and the last three Shrek films.
With Yes Minister writer Antony Jay he co-founded Video Arts, a production company making entertaining training films. In 1976, Cleese co-founded The Secret Policeman's Ball benefit shows to raise funds for the human rights organisation Amnesty International.

Plot: A desperate writer glomming onto a book by PJ O'Rourke on a producer's desk, pitches the idea as a movie. Green lit, the role of PJ O'Rourke takes an interesting turn of events as various actors become attached to the project.
Genres: Comedy, Short,Actors: Stephen Fry (actor), Steve Punt (actor), Steve Punt (actor), Steve Punt (actor), Steve Punt (actor), Steve Punt (actor), Michael Cochrane (actor), Simon Greenall (actor), James Laurenson (actor), Simon Greenall (actor), Rupert Vansittart (actor), Mark Heap (actor), Alex Macqueen (actor), Jane Jackson (miscellaneous crew), Geoffrey McGivern (actor),
Plot: In 1979 the Monty Python comedy team return from making their film 'Monty Python's Life of Brian' in Tunisia. Premiered in America the film is pilloried by ultra-right religious groups for its depiction of Christ. In England the Popular Peoples' Church of St Sophia (whose members include a Tourette's sufferer who shouts out swear words) find a copy of the script in a dustbin and lobby the British censor for its suppression, leading to many local councils banning its screening. Death threats follow and Michael Palin - "the nicest man in Britain" - has his effigy burned on his front lawn. Finally crazed TV programmer Alan Dick persuades Palin and co-star John Cleese to defend the picture on a late night chat show against the Bishop of Southwark and religious commentator Malcolm Muggeridge. Thanks to Cleese's reasoning the Pythons are seen to triumph, winning over the Popular Peoples' Church. A later encounter with God will show how the film's controversy paved the way for other artistic endeavours which prompted protest. Brilliant characterisations are vitiated by a satirical 'treatment' including animated sequences and irritating attempts at surreal wit when a documentary style treatment would have sufficed. Several of the Pythons were hostile to the film, summed up in the floor manager's comment. "Another fantasy sequence...lame".

Part of a series of animations I created for Owen Harris' Comedy Drama 'Holy Flying Circus' about Monty Python's trials and tribulations in making The Life of Brian written by the wonderfully talented and tall Tony Roche, produced by Kate Norrish and Polly Leys at Hillbilly Films. The animation all had its inspiration from Terry Gilliam's vast styles he created in the 1970s, baring in mind back then the technology and money was extremely limited (something of the former we had in common for this project). The very talented Darren Boyd played the on-screen version of John Cleese and did it exceptionally well.

John Cleese gives Carr a Master class in Comedy and timing (2 things Carr needs to learn a LOT about) as He slowly takes control of the interview and then tells his 'host' why He is there before leaving (Yes He did come back) but I left it there for the comedic value that Cleese wanted and lets face it when he DID come back all we got was Carr doing his usual talking about himself instead of the guest! He has NO respect! Well done John for putting him in his place....Looking forward to the O2..Why He is not SIR John Cleese is beyond Me when you look as some of the undeserving that are....Rock on!

The Monty Python legend hasn’t always had a way with the ladies. As he tells Tracy Smith, it stems from his relationship with his mother, who suffered from depression and debilitating anger.

My friend Jean Bolte (a.k.a. Dr. Figurine) would like to bring characters to life by projecting videos of human faces onto her ‘life casts’ of David Bowie, Sean Connery and John Cleese. On a quiet sunday afternoon, we gathered in my studio to experiment with this idea, with the help of our friend Mark Petrakis (a.k.a. Dr. Zboon). For our first test, we used a video of my interview with Jean’s daughter Natalina (a.k.a. Dr. Canard), and projected it onto the David Bowie and Sean Connery life casts, as well as on a plain mannequin head. We also shot original video footage of Mark and projected it on the same life casts, along with some facial expressions. The results of this first test were very encouraging, as you can see in this video and these photos: https://www.flickr.com/photos/fabo...

This video is a commentary by legendary humorist John Cleese where he explains the danger of censoring comedy. The video was produced by DINO. My rendition captures the 34 best seconds. I added the captions to make it easier to follow. As the logos roll, I tucked a short clip from Monty Python into an old television set. The original segment runs almost five minutes, including a lively interview of John Cleese by Bill Maher of HBO. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9CnkLAB1mw]
When the BBC needed an interview with John Cleese; Ringo got the call. All about the live O2 Monty Python performances that summer; we interviewed Mr Cleese prior to his performance at the National University of Singapore. James was the luck chap that got the chance to ask all the questions.
