Trailer for movie Redemption staring Jamie Foxx - Story about Stanley Tookie Williams, a West Side Crip founder from South Los Angeles who was arrested in 1979 for four homicides in Los Angeles & Whittier. He was convicted in 1981 and sent to San Quentin's death row where he was executed in 2005.
He was the first street gang member in California history to be sentenced to death and eventually executed. Today there are over 100 gang members on California's death row.

SYN-Q worked on the Save Tookie Campaign With Barbara Becnell (played by Lynn Whitfield in the movie Redemption: The Stan Tookie Williams Story http://bit.ly/2oshwPd).
SYN-Q volunteered in her office answering phones and mailing out letters. Becnel was instrumental in helping to promote keeping Tookie breathing.
SYN-Q was at the 11/22/05 Save Tookie Rally http://bit.ly/2ox3Cgq working as a member of the Nation Of Islam. He stood a few feet away from Snoop Dog as he spoke in opposition to Tookie's execution.
"Willams was the author of several children’s books as well the memoir “Blue Rage, Black Redemption,” which chronicles his path from gang organizer to Death Row resident and peace activist (“blue” represents the color associated with the Crips gang)."
His children's books were designed to keep kids from going down the same destructive path that led to his imprisonment and execution. He was nominated four times for the Nobel peace prize while on death row http://bit.ly/2pcrp6l.
Tookie was executed on 12/13/05 by then California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Redemption: The Stan Tookie Williams Story
Redemption: The Stan Tookie Williams Story is a 2004 television film starring Jamie Foxx and Lynn Whitfield. The film was directed by Vondie Curtis-Hall. Other cast members in the film include Lee Thompson Young and CCH Pounder.
Background
The film deals with the life of Stanley Tookie Williams, the co-founding member of the Crips street gang, principally his life in the streets and his life in prison. It also shows some of the work he did while incarcerated to help decrease gang violence in the world. The film was shot in 2003 while Williams was still imprisoned. On December 13, 2005, Williams was executed by lethal injection in California.
After its debut at The Sundance Film Festival, the film was released in January 2004 via the FX cable network on television and went on to become a successful venture for the network. The film was nominated for 19 different awards and won 11 of them. Among the awards the film was nominated for include American Cinema Editors, Black Reel Awards, Golden Globes, NAACP Image Awards, Independent Spirit Awards, MovieGuide, Satellite Award, Screen Actors Guild, and Writers Guild of America.

"Willams was the author of several children’s books as well the memoir “Blue Rage, Black Redemption,” which chronicles his path from gang organizer to Death Row resident and peace activist (“blue” represents the color associated with the Crips gang)."
His children's books were designed to keep kids from going down the same destructive path that led to his imprisonment and execution. He was nominated four times for the Nobel peace prize while on death row http://bit.ly/2pcrp6l.
Tookie was executed on 12/13/05 by then California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
