Spain (i/ˈspeɪn/; Spanish: España [esˈpaɲa]), officially the Kingdom of Spain (Spanish: Reino de España), is a sovereign state largely located on the Iberian Peninsula in southwestern Europe, with archipelagos in the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea, and several small territories on and near the north African coast. Its mainland is bordered to the south and east by the Mediterranean Sea except for a small land boundary with Gibraltar; to the north and northeast by France, Andorra, and the Bay of Biscay; and to the west and northwest by Portugal and the Atlantic Ocean. Along with France and Morocco, it is one of only three countries to have both Atlantic and Mediterranean coastlines. Extending to 1,214 km (754 mi), the Portugal–Spain border is the longest uninterrupted border within the European Union.
Spanish territory includes two archipelagos: the Balearic Islands, in the Mediterranean Sea, and the Canary Islands, in the Atlantic Ocean off the African coast. It also includes two major exclaves, Ceuta and Melilla, in continental North Africa; and the islands and peñones (rocks) of Alborán, Alhucemas, Chafarinas and Vélez de la Gomera. With an area of 505,990 km2 (195,360 sq mi), Spain is the second largest country in Western Europe and the European Union, and the fourth largest country in Europe. By population, Spain is the sixth largest in Europe and the fifth in the European Union.

Our reporters explored both the public and hidden side of this booming activity. It all began in 2011, when cannabis lovers managed to exploit a flaw in Spain’s anti-smoking legislation allowing them to consume cannabis in enclosed and private spaces. The state has turned a blind eye to these non-profit associations, where only registered members have the rig...

On the second day of his official state visit to Spain, Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto met Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy and the two held talks. During meetings that continued over lunch, the two leaders discussed their bilateral relations, the abdication of Spain's King Juan Carlos, and the current free trade agreement between Mexico and the European Union. At a joint news conference held in the gardens of Madrid's Moncloa Palace, Pena Nieto expressed gratitude for the affection and kindness shown by King Juan Carlos to Mexico. He also commented on Mexico's future, saying it had embarked upon a path of development which he hoped would be as successful as that of Brazil, South America's strongest economy. Monthly market comment by the Chief Strategist of Vontobel Christophe Bernard. Having bitten the bullet of austerity and reform, Spain has turned the corner. While much remains to be done, the country’s recovery serves as an example for other problem children of the euro zone. But as in other fragile economies of the European “periphery”, any further improvement will depend on whether voters will continue to support the reform path. Spain's economy is growing - ever so slightly, rebounding from years of recession, but unemployment remains high at more than 20 percent. This week, the King and Queen of Spain are in Mexico, hoping to shore-up investment opportunities.
The European Central Bank has lowered borrowing costs in an attempt to stimulate economies that use the euro, but what impact might this have in Spain? The widely-expected cut to 0.50% from 0.75% is the first in 10 months, fuelled by concerns about a lack of economic growth and high unemployment in many eurozone nations. From Barcelona, Pascale Harter reports on the outlook for small businesses in the harsh economic climate.

PIGS is a term coined by the business and financial press as a way to refer to Portugal, Italy, Greece and Spain during their current financial plight. What started as a pejorative label used by neoconservatives, mainly from English speaking countries, was eventually taken up for some time without any qualms by the media. Excessively high levels of public and private debt, government deficits, a property bubble and, generally speaking, very disappointing political and economic policies, have put the PIGS in the crosshairs. It is alleged that the PIGS won’t be able to bear the pressure of sharing a common currency with their stronger European brethren. In this analysis, the forced exit of at least some of the PIGS from the Euro would lead soon to the demise of the European currency. Yet...

Victor Barrio, a Spanish bullfighter was gored to death by a bull in front of spectators at a corrida on Saturday. The incident was captured live on television.
40 people were injured in northern Spain on Wednesday when a raging bull jumped into the packed grandstands of a bullring and ran amok. The terrifying incident happened in Tafalla, in the northern region of Navarra, and occurred when the animal leapt over the fence and climbed up the stairs of the stands knocking over people, including young children.

Bull leaping dates back to Antiquity, when the bull was considered a sacred animal. Recortes (bull leaping) in Spain has been practised since at least the 18th century, and continues to grow in popularity as Spain moves away from bullfighting. I leave it to you to decide whether this is an acceptable alternative. Thank you for all your comments and yes the music is naff.

'So crazy, it just might actually work.' That's the only thing you can imagine was going through Horacio Llorens and Hernan Pitocco's heads when they dreamed up this slingshot stunt. After a rather creative exit from a hot-air balloon at nearly 5,000m, the pair (who were harnessed to each other in a tandem paraglider) started an infinity tumble – a high-G inverted manoeuvre, repeated multiple times. Then, they slingshotted themselves away from the paragalider to skydive down to earth at a ski resort high in the Pyrenees. For three epic days each year, Florence’s central square hosts an ancient sport where teams of men kick, punch and pummel their way to glory. Produced by David Airob, Jose Bautista and David Ramos for Narratively's "Redemption" week. (March 31, 2014). http://narrative.ly/redemption/the-gladiators-of-calcio-storico/ Description: An early form of football, the official rules of calcio storico fiorentino were first written in 1580 by Count Giovanni de Bardi. Originally played for rich aristocrats, even popes were known to play calcio at times. The field is a giant sandpit with a narrow slit of a goal running the width of each end, while twenty-seven players make up each team, and the ball can be hit with feet or hands. Fight tactics such as punching, elbowing and martial arts techniques a...

Macedonia vs Spain 1-2 - All Goals & Highlights - World Cup Qualifiers 11/06/2017 HD 0-1 Silva 0-2 Costa 1-2 Ristovski Spain will look to maintain their bid to qualify automatically for the 2018 FIFA World Cup when they travel to Macedonia on Sunday. La Roja are ahead of Italy on goal difference in Group G, but with the Azzurri likely to beat Liechtenstein handsomely in their fixture on Sunday, Spain will want to do the same against their opponents. The clash between Spain and Italy in September is likely to decide which of the two teams finishes top of the group, but if the pair draw—as they did in their first meeting—goal difference could well be crucial. Read on for a preview of the match, but first, a look at the schedule.

Follow on: https://facebook.com/TSOphotography for more photos, videos and updates. This was filmed between 4th and 11th April 2011. I had the pleasure of visiting El Teide. The goal was to capture the beautiful Milky Way galaxy along with one of the most amazing mountains I know El Teide. I have to say this was one of the most exhausting trips I have done. The typographic elements are actually ceramic-based vintage lettering, which was hand-painted and later filmed in natural scenery. The intention was to depict very distinct elements as part of the same ecosystem, similarly to the various distinct speakers coming together for the event. Below is a link to a short behind the scenes video that illustrates some of the process. It was on my machine
She said, I quote,
'Hope you're not asleep
'Cause I'm in my bed

And the air is hot
So won't you come on in
