When Baltic Business Meets the Environment was one of ten workshops that took place at the 4th Annual Forum of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (12 November 2013 Vilnius, Lithuania.)
The main actors of priority area 'Innovation' presented the achievements of the projects within this priority area and provided insights on the future steps in light of the new financial perspective. The workshop also considered how to bridge the gap between strategic projects and more concrete commercial results.

The WWF Baltic Sea Farmer of the Year Award is an annual competition intended to inspire farmers from around the Baltic to take an active part in combating eutrophication and move towards a more Baltic-friendly farming providing excellent examples that others can learn from. The Award was created in 2009 by WWF in partnership with farmers’ organisations from around the Baltic Sea with the intention to stimulate cooperation in order to further the application and promotion, of good environmental practice in the agricultural sector. Baltic Sea
The Baltic Sea is a sea of the Atlantic Ocean, enclosed by Scandinavia, Finland, the Baltic countries, and the North European Plain. It includes the Gulf of Bothnia, the Bay of Bothnia, the Gulf of Finland, the Gulf of Riga, and the Bay of Gdańsk. The sea stretches from 53°N to 66°N latitude and from 10°E to 30°E longitude. A mediterranean sea of the Atlantic, with limited water exchange between the two bodies, the Baltic Sea drains through the Danish islands into the Kattegat by way of the straits of Øresund, the Great Belt, and the Little Belt.
The Baltic Proper is bordered on its northern edge, at the latitude 60°N, by the Åland islands and the Gulf of Bothnia, on its northeastern edge by the Gulf of Finland, on its eastern edge by the Gulf of Riga, and in the West by the South-Swedish part of the Scandinavian Peninsula.
The Baltic Sea is connected by artificial waterways to the White Sea via the White Sea Canal and to the German Bight of the North Sea via the Kiel Canal.

Lithuania is situated on the Baltic Sea and has a long history, fortified castles and splendid palaces, a country that has many religious buildings and where religious faith has become an art form. Vilnius, the capital, is a city of Baroque mixed with Gothic, Renaissance and Classicism, a melting pot of culture. Its main landmark is Castle Hill with its red-coloured Gediminas Tower that marks the beginning of the city's history. The Boulevard begins in Cathedral Square where, adjoining the cathedral, is a fine white bell tower. The Cathedral’s interior still radiates a Gothic sense of space. The local people are particularly proud of the cathedral’s copy of the Turin Shroud. In the Middle Ages when the Grand Dukes ruled, the ancient capital of Trakei was the political centre of Lithuania’s power. The later built Water Castle is the real landmark of Lithuanian history. Grand Duke Vytautas had the castle extended and from it ruled a vast empire which, for a short time, stretched from the Baltic to the Black Sea. Around forty kilometres northwest of Vilnius lies the archaeological site of Kernave, Lithuania’s ‘Troy’. The exhibits date from the tenth century B.C. until the Early Middle Ages. During the first centuries A.C., large settlements were established in the Pajauta Valley, which were protected by the Castle Mountains. On the edge of the Zemait Highland in the north lies Şiauliai, Lithuania’s fourth largest city, much of which had to be rebuilt after the Second World War and that since the sixteenth century had been an important market and trading city. Sundial Square is the city’s main landmark with its impressive sundial that was created for the city’s seven hundred and fiftieth jubilee in 1986. Full of European history, Lithuania has become a modern day country with magnificent castles, ancient towns, nature and culture and is a destination that is bound to please!

Radioactive waste: Dumped and Forgotten
This documentary was shown on German and French TV but not in England. For obvious reasons the English don't want anyone to see it. This is the English version which we hope you will mirror and call attention to. It discusses the effects of sea dumping of radioactive waste on the health of people living on the local coasts, like the Irish Sea and the Baltic Sea, which is the most radioactive sea in the world. The documentary focuses on the British sea dumping in the English Channel Hurd Deep about 12 miles north of the Channel Island of Alderney. Alderney is also subject to releases to the sea from the French Nuclear Reprocessing Plant at Cap de la La Hague 12 miles East of the small island. The Mysterious Baltic Sea Object - Peter Lindberg
On June 19th the Swedish-based diving company Ocean X Team discovered something unusual on the sonar while they were exploring the Baltic Sea between Sweden and Finland looking for sunken treasures. They found a 197 feet diameter cylinder shaped object at the depth of approximately 275 feet. Much mystery surrounds the object. Peter Lindberg from the Ocean X Team joins us to discuss the details and anomalies of the object. I am not a sales manager or a recruiter. (Perhaps one day, but not today.) I’m just a guy who has “been there and done that” and perhaps can help other agents get a better start in a difficult industry.
In this video, I equate various product lines and niche markets to “monopoly properties” to help new agents determine a target focus, growth strategies, as well as determine if advice for their careers (let alone company product lines) would fit their chosen niche markets.
Here’s a summary of my monopoly/target market opinions:
- Mediterranean Ave / Baltic Ave = Supplemental Health Insurance (AFLAC, Combined, Colonial life)
- Connecticut / Oriental / Vermont = Group Insurance (Health, Dental, Vision, Life, Disability, etc.)
- St. Charles Place / States / Virginia = Senior Market (Medicare Supplement & Final Expense, with generally limited opportunities to cross-sell annuities and long term care)
The only designations that I think may matter to this point, may be the educational content of the CSA or Certified Senior Advisor designation for the senior market. Check with your state insurance department to verify if the designation itself is allowed to be used. (It is not allowed in California.)
- St. James Place / Tennessee / New York Ave = Middle Income Market with fixed insurance products only (Whole life / UL / IUL, Disability, Critical Illness, rollovers to fixed and fixed indexed annuities)

This documentary was shown on German and French TV but not in England. For obvious reasons the English don't want anyone to see it. This is the English version which we hope you will mirror and call attention to. It discusses the effects of sea dumping of radioactive waste on the health of people living on the local coasts, like the Irish Sea and the Baltic Sea, which is the most radioactive sea in the world. The documentary focuses on the British sea dumping in the English Channel Hurd Deep about 12 miles north of the Channel Island of Alderney. Alderney is also subject to releases to the sea from the French Nuclear Reprocessing Plant at Cap de la La Hague 12 miles East of the small island. Prof Chris Busby who was consulted on the health effects of this marine radioactive pollution visits the island with the producers and makes measurements of contamination on the beach. Busby originally visited the island in 1998 with Jersey MP Stuart Syvret and found an excess of brain tumours and also general cancer mortality which was written up as a Green Audit paper and became part of a BBC news story at the time. They were both chased off the island.
Manfred Ladwig manages to get Dr John Cooper, head of the UK radiological protection organisation, the HPA, to admit that they balance childhood cancer cases against the advantages of cheaply disposing of nuclear waste. Cooper also agrees that his position involves a conflict of interest since he is head of HPA which takes advice on radiation protection from ICRP. Cooper is on the ICRP committee. He therefore takes advice from himself. We also hear from Prof Richard Wakeford, ex head of research for Sellafield, but now an "independent" expert, also on ICRP, who tells us the coastal child leukemias were caused by "population mixing". How long do we have to be subject to advice from these clowns?

Dr. Yasushi Sakuramoto, Maxwell School EMPA candidate
Japan has realized the world’s highest level of life expectancy and healthcare standards through the universal health insurance system. This system includes covering all citizens through public health insurance, freedom of choice of medical institution, and high-quality medical services with low costs. While the social insurance system is the basis, public subsidies are the resources used to maintain universal health insurance. With the aging population of Japan, however, challenges such as financial sustainability, geographical inequity, and skewed distribution of physician specialties are being presented. Japan’s experience can provide perspective to other countries’ health policy creation.
Dr. Yasushi Sakuramoto is an EMPA candidate with an interest in sustainable health policy, crisis management and leadership. He most recently earned a Master in Public Health from the University of California Berkeley. Prior to his studies, Dr. Sakuramoto was Deputy Director, Medical Economics Division, Health Insurance Bureau in the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare in Tokyo. In the aftermath of his country’s 2011 earthquake, he was dispatched to Fukishima in order to coordinate a system to dispatch physicians to the most critical areas. Dr. Sakuramoto earned his medical degree from Jutendo University in Japan.

This system includes covering all citizens through public health insurance, freedom of choice of medical institution, and high-quality medical services with low costs. While the social insurance system is the basis, public subsidies are the resources used to maintain universal health insurance. With the aging population of Japan, however, challenges such as financial sustainability, geographical inequity, and skewed distribution of physician specialties are being presented. Japan’s experience can provide perspective to other countries’ health policy creation.
Dr. Yasushi Sakuramoto is an EMPA candidate with an interest in sustainable health policy, crisis management and leadership. He most recently earned a Master in Public Health from the University of California Berkeley. Prior to his studies, Dr. Sakuramoto was Deputy Director, Medical Economics Division, Health Insurance Bureau in the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare in Tokyo. In the aftermath of his country’s 2011 earthquake, he was dispatched to Fukishima in order to coordinate a system to dispatch physicians to the most critical areas. Dr. Sakuramoto earned his medical degree from Jutendo University in Japan.
