This week's Live Tour was filmed at the National Museum of Korea! We were very busy with our wedding and honeymoon for several weeks, but now we're back to our normal weekend broadcast schedule Live from Korea!
The National Museum of Korea is the largest museum in Asia, and 6th largest in the world! It's home to many important and beautiful artifacts dating back to prehistoric times on the Korean peninsula.
We were happy to show a brief highlight tour inside some of the museum's permanent collection. We apologize for connectivity/buffering issues during our Livestream.

History of the National Museum of Korea
On October 28, 2005, the NMK reopened in its new permanent home in Yongsan, on a site of 307,227 m² (building area: 45,438 m²). Yongsan, the geographic heart of Seoul, is backed by the expansive Mt. Namsan and fronted by the Hangang. Yongsan is also the true cultural center of Seoul, sitting just south of the five palaces of the Joseon Dynasty and the War Memorial, and north of the National Library and the Seoul Arts Center.
The NMK, boasting more extensive and convenient facilities than its predecessors, attracted more than 100,000 visitors in its first three days, reaching one million in attendance after 44 days, and ten million in about three and a half years. In 2009, the NMK attracted 2,730,204 visitors, which ranked as the highest attendance figure in Asia and 10th worldwide (according to the Art Newspaper).
Reborn as a "cultural complex" that all Koreans can enjoy, the NMK has updated its mission to not only to preserve and display relics, but also to host a variety of programs and cultural events in conjunction with the Children's Museum and permanent exhibitions. Beginning in 2008, the NMK offered free admission to all of its permanent exhibits, thereby enhancing the popularity of the museum and altering the perception that museums are for one-time visits only.
The NMK also reinforced its numerous exchange programs with overseas museums, holding special internationally themed exhibitions, such as "The Glory of Persia" (2008), "Egypt, the Great Civilization: Pharaohs and Mummies" (2009), "Korean Museums: 100 Years in Remembrance" (a 100th anniversary celebration of Korean Museums) (2009), and "Gods, Heroes and Mortals: Art and Life in Ancient Greece" (2010).

HI
In this vlog, we went to the National of Museum Korea, while Si Wei went to Jeonju with her friends for the weekend. Then we went to the N Seoul Tower at night.
The next day, we went to Jamsil to buy some gifts for our family and had dinner with our friends at Gosame, Sinchon. The mackerel is the best!
On the 9th, we went to Coex Mall.
Anyway sorry for the lack of updates as I am busy studying for finals.

National Museum of Korea
The National Museum of Korea is the flagship museum of Korean history and art in South Korea and is the cultural organization that represents Korea. Since its establishment in 1945, the museum has been committed to various studies and research activities in the fields of archaeology, history, and art, continuously developing a variety of exhibitions and education programs.
In 2012, it was reported that since its relocation to Yongsan District in 2005, the Museum has attracted an attendance of 20 million visitors. A poll of nearly 2,000 foreign visitors, conducted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government in November 2011, stated that visiting the Museum is one of their favorite activities in Seoul.
History
Emperor Sunjong established Korea's first museum, the Imperial Household Museum, in 1909. The collections of the Imperial Household Museum at Changgyeonggung and the Japanese Government General Museum administered during Japanese rule of Korea became the nucleus of the National Museum's collection, which was established when South Korea gained independence in 1945.

Korea
Korea, called Chosŏn (Korean: 조선; Hanja: 朝鮮) in North Korea and Hanguk (Korean: 한국; Hanja: 韓國) or Daehanminkuk (Korean: 대한민국; Hanja: 大韓民國) in South Korea, is an East Asian territory that is divided into two distinct sovereign states: North Korea, formally the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), and South Korea, formally the Republic of Korea (ROK). The united Silla was eventually succeeded by Goryeo in 935 at the end of the Later Three Kingdoms period. Goryeo, which gave name to the modern exonym "Korea", was a highly cultured state and created the Jikji in the 14th century. The invasions by the Mongol Empire in the 13th century, however, greatly weakened the nation, which forced it into vassalage. After the Yuan dynasty's collapse, severe political strife followed. Goryeo eventually fell to an uprising led by General Yi Seong-gye, who established Joseon in 1388.

HI In this vlog, we went to the National of Museum Korea, while Si Wei went to Jeonju with her friends for the weekend. Then we went to the N Seoul Tower at night. The next day, we went to Jamsil to buy some gifts for our family and had dinner with our friends at Gosame, Sinchon. The mackerel is the best! On the 9th, we went to Coex Mall. History of the National Museum of Korea
On October 28, 2005, the NMK reopened in its new permanent home in Yongsan, on a site of 307,227 m² (building area: 45,438 m²). Yongsan, the geographic heart of Seoul, is backed by the expansive Mt. Namsan and fronted by the Hangang. Yongsan is also the true cultural center of Seoul, sitting just south of the five palaces of the Joseon Dynasty and the War Memorial, and north of the National Library and the Seoul Arts Center.
The NMK, boasting more extensive and convenient facilities than its predecessors, attracted more than 100,000 visitors in its first three days, reaching one million in attendance after 44 days, and ten million in about three and a half years. In 2009, the NMK attracted 2,730,204 visitors, which ranked as the highest attendance figure in Asia and 10th worldwide (according to the Art Newspaper).
Reborn as a "cultural complex" that all Koreans can enjoy, the NMK has updated its mission to not only to preserve and display relics, but also to host a variety of programs and cultural events in conjunction with the Children's Museum and permanent exhibitions. Beginning in 2008, the NMK offered free admission to all of its permanent exhibits, thereby enhancing the popularity of the museum and altering the perception that museums are for one-time visits only.
The NMK also reinforced its numerous exchange programs with overseas museums, holding special internationally themed exhibitions, such as "The Glory of Persia" (2008), "Egypt, the Great Civilization: Pharaohs and Mummies" (2009), "Korean Museums: 100 Years in Remembrance" (a 100th anniversary celebration of Korean Museums) (2009), and "Gods, Heroes and Mortals: Art and Life in Ancient Greece" (2010).

In this vlog, we went to the National of Museum Korea, while Si Wei went to Jeonju with her friends for the weekend. Then we went to the N Seoul Tower at night.
The next day, we went to Jamsil to buy some gifts for our family and had dinner with our friends at Gosame, Sinchon. The mackerel is the best!
On the 9th, we went to Coex Mall.
Anyway sorry for the lack of updates as I am busy studying for finals.

History of the National Museum of Korea
On October 28, 2005, the NMK reopened in its new permanent home in Yongsan, on a site of 307,227 m² (building area: 45,438 m²). Yongsan, the geographic heart of Seoul, is backed by the expansive Mt. Namsan and fronted by the Hangang. Yongsan is also the true cultural center of Seoul, sitting just south of the five palaces of the Joseon Dynasty and the War Memorial, and north of the National Library and the Seoul Arts Center.
The NMK, boasting more extensive and convenient facilities than its predecessors, attracted more than 100,000 visitors in its first three days, reaching one million in attendance after 44 days, and ten million in about three and a half years. In 2009, the NMK attracted 2,730,204 visitors, which ranked as the highest attendance figure in Asia and 10th worldwide (according to the Art Newspaper).
Reborn as a "cultural complex" that all Koreans can enjoy, the NMK has updated its mission to not only to preserve and display relics, but also to host a variety of programs and cultural events in conjunction with the Children's Museum and permanent exhibitions. Beginning in 2008, the NMK offered free admission to all of its permanent exhibits, thereby enhancing the popularity of the museum and altering the perception that museums are for one-time visits only.
The NMK also reinforced its numerous exchange programs with overseas museums, holding special internationally themed exhibitions, such as "The Glory of Persia" (2008), "Egypt, the Great Civilization: Pharaohs and Mummies" (2009), "Korean Museums: 100 Years in Remembrance" (a 100th anniversary celebration of Korean Museums) (2009), and "Gods, Heroes and Mortals: Art and Life in Ancient Greece" (2010).

History of the National Museum of Korea
On October 28, 2005, the NMK reopened in its new permanent home in Yongsan, on a site of 307,227 m² (building area: 45,438 m²). Yongsan, the geographic heart of Seoul, is backed by the expansive Mt. Namsan and fronted by the Hangang. Yongsan is also the true cultural center of Seoul, sitting just south of the five palaces of the Joseon Dynasty and the War Memorial, and north of the National Library and the Seoul Arts Center.
The NMK, boasting more extensive and convenient facilities than its predecessors, attracted more than 100,000 visitors in its first three days, reaching one million in attendance after 44 days, and ten million in about three and a half years. In 2009, the NMK attracted 2,730,204 visitors, which ranked as the highest attendance figure in Asia and 10th worldwide (according to the Art Newspaper).
Reborn as a "cultural complex" that all Koreans can enjoy, the NMK has updated its mission to not only to preserve and display relics, but also to host a variety of programs and cultural events in conjunction with the Children's Museum and permanent exhibitions. Beginning in 2008, the NMK offered free admission to all of its permanent exhibits, thereby enhancing the popularity of the museum and altering the perception that museums are for one-time visits only.
The NMK also reinforced its numerous exchange programs with overseas museums, holding special internationally themed exhibitions, such as "The Glory of Persia" (2008), "Egypt, the Great Civilization: Pharaohs and Mummies" (2009), "Korean Museums: 100 Years in Remembrance" (a 100th anniversary celebration of Korean Museums) (2009), and "Gods, Heroes and Mortals: Art and Life in Ancient Greece" (2010).

In this vlog, we went to the National of Museum Korea, while Si Wei went to Jeonju with her friends for the weekend. Then we went to the N Seoul Tower at night.
The next day, we went to Jamsil to buy some gifts for our family and had dinner with our friends at Gosame, Sinchon. The mackerel is the best!
On the 9th, we went to Coex Mall.
Anyway sorry for the lack of updates as I am busy studying for finals.

Our documentary tells the story of Lee Kang-hyo’s search for a beautiful life, through his work with clay and the love of his family. Set against the backdrop of his South Korean studio, it gives an insight into the spiritual journey that plays a vital part in his artistic practice. Our documentary tells the story of Lee Kang-hyo’s search for a beautiful life, through his work with clay and the love of his family. Set against the backdrop of his South Korean studio, it gives an insight into the spiritual journey that plays a vital part in his artistic practice.
Lee is world-famous for combining the traditional Korean technique called Onggi - a technique that allows him to make enormous, often man-sized pots and the puncheong (buncheong) decorating technique. Watch him constructing three of these giant Onggi pots over a five-day period, culminating in an exciting explosion of glaze and colour as Lee sets about decorating them in his inimitable fashion.
His work is exhibited all over the world in major national museums such as the Victoria & Albert Museum, The British Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Art Institute of Chicago and the International Ceramic Museum in Italy.
The music in the film is Samulnori music. Samulnori basically means “four instruments” and the four instruments are Kwaengwari, jing, janggu, and buk.
