Northern Norway (Bokmål: Nord-Norge, Nynorsk: Nord-Noreg, North Sámi: Davvi-Norga) is the geographical region of Norway, consisting of the three northernmost counties Nordland, Troms and Finnmark, in total about 35% of the Norwegian mainland. Some of the largest towns in Northern Norway (from south to north) are Mo i Rana, Bodø, Narvik, Harstad, Tromsø and Alta. Northern Norway is often described as the land of the midnight sun and the land of the northern lights. Further north, halfway to the North Pole, is the Arctic archipelago of Svalbard, traditionally not regarded as part of Northern Norway.
The region is multi-cultural, housing not just Norwegians but also the indigenous Sami people, Norwegian Finns (known as Kvens, distinct from the "Forest Finns" of Southern Norway) and Russian populations (mostly in Kirkenes). The Norwegian language dominates in most of the area; Sami speakers are mainly found inland and in some of the fjord areas of Nordland, Troms and particularly Finnmark – though ethnic Sámi who do not speak the language are found more or less everywhere in the region. Finnish is spoken in only a few communities in the east of Finnmark.
Norway (i/ˈnɔːrweɪ/ NAWR-way; Norwegian: Norge (Bokmål) or Noreg (Nynorsk)), officially the Kingdom of Norway, is a sovereign and unitary monarchy whose territory comprises the western portion of the Scandinavian Peninsula plus the island Jan Mayen and the archipelago of Svalbard. The Antarctic Peter I Island and the sub-Antarctic Bouvet Island are dependent territories and thus not considered part of the Kingdom. Norway also lays claim to a section of Antarctica known as Queen Maud Land. Until 1814, the Kingdom included the Faroe Islands (since 1035), Greenland (1261), and Iceland (1262). It also included Shetland and Orkney until 1468.
Norway has a total area of 385,252 square kilometres (148,747 sq mi) and a population of 5,109,059 people (2014). The country shares a long eastern border with Sweden (1,619 km or 1,006 mi long). Norway is bordered by Finland and Russia to the north-east, and the Skagerrak Strait to the south, with Denmark on the other side. Norway has an extensive coastline, facing the North Atlantic Ocean and the Barents Sea.
Northern may refer to the following:
Loppa (Northern Sami: Láhpi and Kven: Lappean) is a municipality in Finnmark county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Øksfjord. Other villages in Loppa include Andsnes, Bergsfjord, Langfjordhamn, Loppa, Nuvsvåg, Øksfjordbotn, Sandland, and Sør-Tverrfjord.
Most people live in the village of Øksfjord, but smaller communities are spread out along the shores and islands, notably Nuvsvåg, Sandland, Bergsfjord, Brynilen, and the island of Loppa. This island was previously the administrative centre of the municipality (hence the name). There is no airport, but Øksfjord is a port of call for the Hurtigruten boats.
The municipality of Loppa was established on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). In 1858, the northern part of Loppa on the island of Sørøya and most of Loppa on Stjernøya (population: 506) was separated to form the new municipality of Hasvik. This left Loppa with 801 residents. The borders of the municipality have not changed since that time.

Our group of friends went 10 days in Northern Norway. 10 days of awesome meets and amazing experiences such as Northern lights, wales, or the wonderful Lofoten Islands. We drive you now to the North paradise =) Notre groupe d'amis a passé 10 jours dans le Nord de la Norvège. Video produced for The Executive Committee for Northern Norway (Landsdelsutvalget). This is the regional co-operative political organ for the north incorporating the counties of Finnmark, Troms, Nordland and Nord-Trøndelag. Since establishment in 1974, the Executive Committee for Northern Norway has had a main objective of visualising the region’s value creation potential and opportunities, as well as identifying, coordinating and solving tasks of common interest in the north. The purpose is to find the overriding common issues that the counties can solve in a better way through the political cooperative organ The Executive Committee for Northern Norway – than by themselves.

Loppa Municipality in northern Norway belongs to the province of Finnmark. There are only around 1200 people living in Loppa Municipality, and half of them live in the small city called Øksfjord. This video shows you the nature in and around Bergsfjord, Nord Tverrfjord, Loppa Island and Silda Island. Northern Norway is a great place to go if you want to see the midnight sun in the summer and experience the 24 hours darkness in the winter; fishing in the lakes from the glacier waters or large cod in the ocean. You will get an amazing nature experience in Loppa Municipality, no matter the season.
This flight was made above the arctic circle from a mountain pass near a little coastal village called Rekvik on the northern part of Kvaløy (Whale Island) about 25 km west from Tromsø, Norway There was some light winds making it almost impossible to keep the plane steady. The landing was done visually (without goggles). A better (more steady) video from the same part of northern Norway can be seen here http://vimeo.com/30162705

Norway is a fascinating land in the extreme north of Europe where both magic and fairytales are very much alive. Oslo is a harbour town that lies well sheltered at the end of a fjord and in the ninth century it was much appreciated by the Vikings who travelled throughout the known world, plundering much of it! Travel video about destination Lofoten in Norway. The Lofotes, the Vikings who built a base here in the ninth century, called these islands in the extreme north of Europe, The Islands Of The Gods. Reminiscent of the Alps, this group of islands just off the beautiful Norwegian coast, is located between one hundred and three hundred kilometres north of the Polar Circle. The origins of the primeval Lofotes date back to the beginning of the earth's history and are more than three and a half million years old.The Vestfjord played a vital part in the settlement of the islands. Since the third century B.C. the settlers here survived by farming the land and breeding animals, and fishing also played an important role. As the cod of the Polar Sea migrate each year in late winter to the Vestfjord t...
