Come walk around with me in Seoul's famous and traditional culture district known as Insadong!
This location is over 500 years old. It was home to many high level Korean aristocrats and artists back in the Joseon dynasty. After the Japanese occupation of Korea, the rich were evicted and the area turned into a market area for antique goods and crafts.
Slowly, after World War II, this area became a tourist destination for traditional Korean culture (art, music, dance, clothing, etc.). In the early 2000's, the city renovated the area to its current style with modern streets and building fronts.
There are over 100 art galleries, many traditional tea houses, many traditional Korean ceramics and art shops, all condensed into this one area.
Many traditional Korean performances happen on the streets quite often, so it's a great place to visit for culture and some souvenir shopping.
Insadong is among the top 5 places to visit when in Seoul.

Seoul is filled with markets, stalls, street food (the Dongdaemun area has 30,000 stores - that's right, 30,000) but two stand out in my opinion for quantity of goods and gold 'ol fun; Namdaemun and Invading with Insadong hitting the winner's tape by a hair.

Hi guys!
So after many requests, we decided to attempt to film a ‘Day in the Life’ video. Usually we have a full work schedule on Fridays, but by chance our Friday last week opened up, so we had time to film our whole day ^^ We were super lucky too—because it just happened to be the warmest, most beautiful day so far this year! We had a few small errands to run in Insadong, so we thought we would drop in on our favorite patjuk (red bean porridge) place nearby at Samcheongdong and get a bowl before the weather gets too warm :D

Insadong proved to be quite the entertaining blend of traditional Korea and gimmicky tourist trap, from handmade ceramics to PSY socks. Whether you're a citizen of Seoul or just visiting, it's definitely worth a visit! Maybe even after a day of touring Bukchon Hanok Village in your hanbok, which is quite conveniently located just across the street!

Insa-dong
Insa-dong is a dong, or neighborhood of the Jongno-gu district of the South Korean city of Seoul. The main street is Insadong-gil, which is connected to a multitude of alleys that lead deeper into the district, with modern galleries and tea shops. At one time it was the largest market for antiques and artworks in Korea.
In area, 12.7 hectares (or 31.4 acres), the district is bordered by Gwanhun-dong to the north, Nagwon-dong to the east, and Jongno 2-ga and Jeokseon-dong to the south, and Gongpyeong-dong to the west.
History
Insadong was originally two towns whose names ended in the syllables "In" and "Sa". They were divided by a stream which ran along Insadong's current main street. Insadong began 500 years ago as an area of residence for government officials. During the early period of the Joseon Dynasty (1392–1897), the place belonged to Gwanin-bang and Gyeonpyeong-bang - bang was the name of an administrative unit during the time - of Hanseong (old name for the capital, Seoul). During the Japanese occupation, the wealthy Korean residents were forced to move and sell their belongings, at which point the site became an area of trading in antiques. After the end of the Korean War, the area became a focus of South Korea's artistic and cafe life. It was a popular destination among foreign visitors to South Korea during the 1960s, who called the area "Mary's Alley". It gained in popularity with international tourists during the 1988 Seoul Olympics. In 2000 the area was renovated, and, after protest, the rapid modernization of the area was halted for two years beginning that year. In recent years the backstreets of Insadong have continued to be gentrified with cafes, garden restaurants, and traditional pension-style accommodations.

Korea's traditional district, Insadong (한국의 전통 지역 인사동 ) - SEOUL WALK
Filmed with GoPro + ZhiYun Z1 Pround 3 axis gimbal stabilizer. Come walk around with me in Seoul's famous and traditional culture district known as Insadong! This location is over 500 years old. It was home to many high level Korean aristocrats and artists back in the Joseon dynasty. After the Japanese occupation of Korea, the rich were evicted and the area turned into a market area for antique goods and crafts. Slowly, after World War II, this area became a tourist destination for traditional Korean culture (art, music, dance, clothing, etc.). In the early 2000's, the city renovated the area to its current style with modern streets and building fronts. Hi guys!
So after many requests, we decided to attempt to film a ‘Day in the Life’ video. Usually we have a full work schedule on Fridays, but by chance our Friday last week opened up, so we had time to film our whole day ^^ We were super lucky too—because it just happened to be the warmest, most beautiful day so far this year! We had a few small errands to run in Insadong, so we thought we would drop in on our favorite patjuk (red bean porridge) place nearby at Samcheongdong and get a bowl before the weather gets too warm :D
We want to give a special shout out to to those of you who have been supporting us on Patreon. It was home to many high level Korean aristocrats and artists back in the Joseon dynasty. Come walk around with me in Seoul's famous and traditional culture district known as Insadong!
This location is over 500 years old. It was home to many high level Korean aristocrats and artists back in the Joseon dynasty. After the Japanese occupation of Korea, the rich were evicted and the area turned into a market area for antique goods and crafts.
Slowly, after World War II, this area became a tourist destination for traditional Korean culture (art, music, dance, clothing, etc.). In the early 2000's, the city renovated the area to its current style with modern streets and building fronts.
There are over 100 art galleries, many traditional tea houses, many traditional Korean ceramics and art shops, all condensed into this one area.
Many traditional Korean performances happen on the streets quite often, so it's a great place to visit for culture and some souvenir shopping.
Insadong is among the top 5 places to visit when in Seoul.

In our latest travel video we venture of to one of our favorite areas in Seoul, known as Insadong street (인사동) on a quest to experience Korean culture, buy some Korean souvenirs, have our caricature drawn and sample plenty of Korean street food. The video captures all of the action on the busiest pedestrian street in all of Seoul, South Korea. You'll notice several time lapse videos of the Korean and foreign pedestrians walking down the street along with a Korean man dancing and several other distinct moments.
Insadong is one of the top places in Seoul to sample Korean street food and/or witness Korean folk/street performers.

Some of the Korean street food we spotted included giant walking cane shaped chips, waffles, hotteok and various kinds of dried seafood.
A small crowd huddled beside a talented Korean man showcasing his calligraphy skills on the side of the main strip.
Although Insadong is extremely crowded with pedestrians, we still spotted a few animals and birds including a cat eating out of a traditional Korean bowl.
While wandering down the bustling street we noticed young Korean men and women holding out Free Hugs signs.
Naturally we both decided to receive a free hug; however, it was kind of awkward. I'm not entirely sure 'why', possibly because we were filming, but I think the young Korean lady who gave us both a hug felt really awkward.
While shopping Audrey noticed a matching couple Korean mask set along with some other cute Korean socks.
In Seoul, couples often buy matching outfits, socks, hats and/or anything else as a way of showing love for one another.
Although, it may seem a little cheesy as an outsider, it's just part of modern day Korean culture that embraces all things 'cute.'
For our new YouTube channel we decided to find a place where we could have our caricature drawn.
After posing for several minutes it was time for us to see the drawing for the first.
We both instantly loved it. My over-exaggerated forehead and Audrey's gigantic teeth certainly made us chuckle.
Overall, it was a wonderful way for us to spend our last weekend in Korea. We ended up doing some shopping for our friends and family back home and we tried to absorb as much Korean culture as possible because we have no idea when/if we'll be back in Seoul again.
