John William Oates (born April 7, 1948) is an American rock, R&B and soul guitarist, musician, songwriter and producer best known as half of the rock and soul duo, Hall & Oates (with Daryl Hall).
Although Oates's main role in the duo was guitarist, he also co-wrote many of the Top 10 songs that they recorded, including (with Hall): "Sara Smile" (the song refers to Hall's then-girlfriend, Sara Allen), "She's Gone", and "Out of Touch", as well as (with Allen & Hall): "You Make My Dreams", "I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)", "Maneater", and "Adult Education". He also sang lead vocals on several more singles in the Hot 100, such as "How Does It Feel to Be Back", "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" (a remake of the 1965 song performed by The Righteous Brothers that was written by Phil Spector, Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil), on which Oates shared lead vocals with Hall, and "Possession Obsession" (with Allen & Hall). Oates also co-wrote and sang backup on the song "Electric Blue", recorded by the band Icehouse, which was a Billboard Top Ten hit. He also co-wrote, produced and sang duet with the Canadian group The Parachute Club on the 1987 song "Love is Fire" which was a Top 30 hit in Canada.

Daryl Franklin Hohl, professionally known as Daryl Hall (born October 11, 1946), is an American rock, R&B and soul singer, keyboardist, guitarist, songwriter and producer, best known as the co-founder and lead vocalist of Hall & Oates (with guitarist and songwriter John Oates).
In the 1970s and early 1980s, Hall scored several Billboard chart hits and is regarded as one of the best soul singers of his generation. Guitarist Robert Fripp, who collaborated with him in the late 1970s and early 1980s, has written, "Daryl's pipes were a wonder. I have never worked with a more able singer." Since late 2007, he has hosted the web television series, Live from Daryl's House. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2004.
Daryl Franklin Hohl was born in Pottstown, a Pennsylvania borough 40 miles (64 km) from Philadelphia. His parents each had a background in music: his father was a professional singer and his mother was a vocal coach. He is of German descent. He started recording while still a student at Owen J. Roberts High School, from which he graduated in 1965. In college at Temple University in Philadelphia, he majored in music, while continuing to record, working with Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff as both an artist and a session musician. During his first semester at Temple, in the fall of 1965, he and four other white Temple University students formed the vocal harmony group the Temptones. They were popular additions to the largely black Philly soul scene, defeating both The Ambassadors and The Delfonics in a contest at the Uptown Theater. The Temptones recorded a handful of singles for Arctic Records, produced by Jimmy Bishop. While performing at the Uptown theatre, Hall formed creative affiliations with such artists as Smokey Robinson, The Temptations, and many other top soul singers of the 1960s.
Daryl Hall and John Oates, known more commonly as Hall & Oates, are an American musical duo from Philadelphia.
Daryl Hall is generally the lead vocalist of the pairing, and also plays a wide range of musical instruments. John Oates also plays a range of instruments, but primarily plays electric guitar and provides backing vocals as well as occasional leads. The two also write most of the songs they perform, either separately or in collaboration. They achieved their greatest fame from the late 1970s to the mid-1980s with a fusion of rock and roll and rhythm and blues, which they dubbed "rock and soul". Critics Stephen Thomas Erlewine and J. Scott McClintock write, "at their best, Hall & Oates' songs were filled with strong hooks and melodies that adhered to soul traditions without being a slave to them by incorporating elements of new wave." While much of their reputation is due to the sustained pop-chart run in the 1980s, they continue to record and tour, and remain respected by various artists for their ability to cross stylistic boundaries.
John is a common English name and surname:
John may also refer to:
In architecture, a hall is a relatively large space enclosed by a roof and walls. In the Iron Age, a mead hall was such a simple building and was the residence of a lord and his retainers. Later, rooms were partitioned from it, and the space next to the front door became the entrance hall. Today, the (entrance) hall of a house is the space next to the front door or vestibule leading to the rooms directly and/or indirectly. Where the hall inside the front door of a house is elongated, it may be called a passage, corridor (from Spanish corredor used in El Escorial and 100 years later in Castle Howard) or hallway.
The term hall is often used to designate a British or Irish country house such as a hall house, or specifically a Wealden hall house, and manor houses.
In later medieval Europe, the main room of a castle or manor house was the great hall. In a medieval building, the hall was where the fire was kept. With time, its functions as dormitory, kitchen, parlour and so on were divided off to separate rooms or, in the case of the kitchen, a separate building.

John Oates performs "Camellia" March 19, 2009 at the 3rd "Stories Behind The Songs" show at the Wheeler Opera House. I am in love with the acoustic version. THANK YOU, JOHN OATES! THANK YOU, JIMMY WAYNE! John Oates: The Stories Behind the Songs Without a band onstage and with a minimalist production, both the performers and the audience can focus on the essential elements of the song itself. The intimate, acoustic setting allows the audience to become part of the show. John says, I enjoy when I can see peoples faces, their reaction gives us cues as to what they like or want to hear...in between songs we talk to each other, they talk to us...we dissolve the barrier between the listener and the stage and give them a glimpse into the world of the songwriter. Here's the link to The Stories...

I was given an open brief to make a film for an environmental conference. A low budget and fast turnaround lead to this idea - using the metaphor of time running out as a backdrop for the message. The 500 million elephants of the title refers to the weight of waste the world creates every year. Scary statistic. Daryl Hall and John Oates, live at Sydney Entertainment Centre in Sydney, AU. Recorded February 8, 2012. When Daryl Hall and John Oates took to the stage at Sydney’s Entertainment Centre as the iconic bass line of ‘Maneater’ began to play, the fans knew they were in for a treat. This duo may have been opening concerts with that irresistibly smooth number for years, but it never seems to lose its magic, and the crowd – an eclectic mix of teens and baby boomers alike – lapped it up. Daryl Hall and John Oates wisely reunited a few years ago after a string of solo projects, and although Oates no longer sports his signature ‘tache, they put on the kind of show that makes it hard to believe they even considered going their separate ways. Earworms like ‘I Can’t Go For That’, ‘Out Of Touch’ and ‘...

This is the first release off We Lost The Sea's latest album 'Departure Songs'. Recorded during live tracking of the album at Studios 301 in Sydney featuring the high school girls choir from Mercy College in Chatswood. A Gallant Gentlemen, the opening track from We Lost The Sea’s third and most adventurous record to date, is a slowly building piece that gives you a just a glimpse of the tumultuous journey to follow. This is the perfect gateway to the heart wrenching ‘Departure Songs.’ The tracks tells the story of Lawrence Oates, an army captain and explorer who walked off into the freezing Antarctic night on a expedition gone wrong, in an attempt to give his life to save the rest of his team. He knew he had become a burden on his friends. He knew their chances of survival would improve w...
By Leah Collins, Dose.ca Max Kerman of the Arkells has a funny story about what happened to the band at the 2009 Juno FanFare. Or wait, was that one actually about Matt Mays and El Torpedo... This time last year, Max Kerman of the Arkells was at the Junos in Vancouver. “We didn’t take part in the [televised] event, though. I think that was reserved for people who were nominated,” the rock frontman laughs. Sure, the band’s debut LP, Jackson Square, had been on shelves a few months by that time the Hamilton-based working-man’s rockers found themselves out west on a working vacation. “We were kind of a last minute replacement for Matt Mays, who couldn’t make it,” Kerman explains. So, they got a trip to Vancouver, played a few Juno-related shows, and one other thing… “Are you looking for a ...

Bob Clearmountain (AudioMasher) BobbyG. (VideoMasher) This is a classic from H & O that was remixed back in 1984 as a B-side for their single "Out Of Touch". I edited the video to fit the song I hope you like it.

I was given an open brief to make a film for an environmental conference. A low budget and fast turnaround lead to this idea - using the metaphor of time running out as a backdrop for the message. The 500 million elephants of the title refers to the weight of waste the world creates every year. Scary statistic. Shot with a EX1 sporting a Letus Extreme and a 105mm macro with variety of extension tubes and diopters. Edited my Andy Oates. Music by John Hendicott
