Cassandra (Greek: Κασσάνδρα, pronounced [kas̚sándra͜a], also Κασάνδρα), also known as Alexandra or Kassandra, was the daughter of King Priam and Queen Hecuba of Troy.
A common version of her story is that, in an effort to seduce her, Apollo gave her the power of prophecy—but when she refused him, he spat into her mouth to inflict a curse that nobody would ever believe her prophecies. In an alternate version, she fell asleep in a temple, and snakes licked (or whispered in) her ears so that she could hear the future. A snake as a source of knowledge is a recurring theme in Greek mythology, though sometimes the snake brings understanding of the language of animals rather than an ability to know the future. Cassandra is a figure of epic tradition and of tragedy.
Hjalmar Frisk (Griechisches Etymologisches Wörterbuch, Heidelberg, 1960–1970) notes "unexplained etymology", citing "various hypotheses" found in Wilhelm Schulze, Kleine Schriften (1966), 698, J. B. Hoffmann, Glotta 28, 52, Edgar Howard Sturtevant, Class. Phil. 21, 248ff., J. Davreux, La légende de la prophétesse Cassandre (Paris, 1942) 90ff., and Albert Carnoy, Les ét. class. 22, 344. R. S. P. Beekes (Etymological Dictionary of Greek, Brill, 2009, p. 654) cites García Ramón's derivation of the name from the Proto-Indo-European root *(s)kend- "raise".
Les Misérables (pronounced /leɪ ˌmɪzəˈrɑːb/ or /leɪ ˈmɪzəˌrɑːb/; French pronunciation: [le mizeʁabl(ə)]) is a French historical novel by Victor Hugo, first published in 1862, that is considered one of the greatest novels of the 19th century. In the English-speaking world, the novel is usually referred to by its original French title. However, several alternatives have been used, including The Miserables, The Wretched, The Miserable Ones, The Poor Ones, The Wretched Poor, The Victims and The Dispossessed. Beginning in 1815 and culminating in the 1832 June Rebellion in Paris, the novel follows the lives and interactions of several characters, particularly the struggles of ex-convict Jean Valjean and his experience of redemption.
Examining the nature of law and grace, the novel elaborates upon the history of France, the architecture and urban design of Paris, politics, moral philosophy, antimonarchism, justice, religion, and the types and nature of romantic and familial love. Les Misérables has been popularized through numerous adaptations for the stage, television, and film, including a musical and a film adaptation of that musical.

A Stranger Helped This Teen Die in Peace by Re-Creating a Pink Tulle Princess Dress video source from: http://www.usmagazine.com/ Cassandra Barbour had just one wish: to be buried in a pink tulle princess dress. The 14-year-old from Martinsville, Virginia, who was diagnosed with bone cancer in May 2016, was combing through the racks at Goodwill this past summer when she spotted the strapless, flowy gown. “She tried it on, and it was just stunning on her,” Barbour's grandmother Lisa Eskew told ABC 13 News. But Barbour ended up leaving the store empty-handed. It was a decision Barbour would later regret. “We would find our eyes searching everywhere for the dress,” Eskew told ABC 13. “Myself,...

Cassandra and Luke's worlds collide as they are drawn into danger, secrets, romance, and war. But when the British begin to bombard Fort McHenry, how long can they protect their love—and each other?
Speaker: Paul Rechsteiner, Principal Engineer Most Cassandra usages take advantage of its exceptional performance and ability to handle massive data sets. At PagerDuty, we use Cassandra for entirely different reasons: to reliably manage mutable application states and to maintain durability requirements even in the face of full data center outages. We achieve this by deploying Cassandra clusters with hosts in multiple WAN-separated data centers, configured with per-data center replica placement requirements, and with significant application-level support to use Cassandra as a consistent datastore. Accumulating several years of experience with this approach, we've learned to accommodate the impact of WAN network latency on Cassandra queries, how to horizontally scale while maintaining our p...
Carly's Singing Sundays The Prayer With Cassandra Murphy I LOVE Singing with my friends!
A waltz that I composed in memory of Andrew Macleod. One of the most fantastic people I have ever met who was taken from this earth at the young age of 21. My deepest sympathies go out especially to his parents, Murdo and Dolina Macleod. Hopefully, this waltz will bring a smile to your face in the same way that Andrew brought a smile and happiness to everyone who was lucky enough to have known him. Apologies for the rough video, I didn't have my accordion on me at the time I recorded it. My laptop has also recorded it in a mirror image so its back to front. Sorry about the ticking in the background is our kitchen clock. It's pretty loud... © Lana Thomson
