Houston (i/ˈhjuːstən/ HYOO-stən) is the most populous city in Texas and the fourth most populous city in the United States. With a census-estimated 2014 population of 2.239 million people, within a land area of 599.6 square miles (1,553 km2), it also is the largest city in the Southern United States, as well as the seat of Harris County. It is the principal city of Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land, which is the fifth most populated metropolitan area in the United States.
Houston was founded in 1836 on land near the banks of Buffalo Bayou (now known as Allen's Landing) and incorporated as a city on June 5, 1837. The city was named after former General Sam Houston, who was president of the Republic of Texas and had commanded and won at the Battle of San Jacinto 25 miles (40 km) east of where the city was established. The burgeoning port and railroad industry, combined with oil discovery in 1901, has induced continual surges in the city's population. In the mid-twentieth century, Houston became the home of the Texas Medical Center—the world's largest concentration of healthcare and research institutions—and NASA's Johnson Space Center, where the Mission Control Center is located.
George "Buddy" Guy (born July 30, 1936) is an American blues guitarist and singer. He is an exponent of Chicago blues and has influenced guitarists including Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Keith Richards, Jeff Beck, John Mayer and Stevie Ray Vaughan. In the 1960s, Guy played with Muddy Waters as a house guitarist at Chess Records and began a musical partnership with harmonica player Junior Wells.
Guy was ranked 30th in Rolling Stone magazine's 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time. His song "Stone Crazy" was ranked 78th in Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Songs of All Time. Clapton once described him as "the best guitar player alive".
Guy's autobiography, When I Left Home: My Story, was published in 2012.
Guy was born and raised in Lettsworth, Louisiana, United States. Guy began learning guitar on a two-string diddley bow he made. Later he was given a Harmony acoustic guitar, which, decades later in Guy's lengthy career was donated to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
"Blues in the Night" is a popular blues song which has become a pop standard and is generally considered to be part of the Great American Songbook. The music was written by Harold Arlen, the lyrics by Johnny Mercer, for a 1941 film begun with the working title Hot Nocturne, but finally released as Blues in the Night. The song is sung in the film by William Gillespie.
Arlen and Mercer wrote the entire score for the 1941 film Blues in the Night. One requirement was for a blues song to be sung in a jail cell. As usual with Mercer, the composer wrote the music first, then Mercer wrote the words. Arlen said,
When they finished writing the song, Mercer called a friend, singer Margaret Whiting, and asked if they could come over and play it for her. She suggested they come later because she had dinner guests—Mickey Rooney, Judy Garland, Mel Tormé, and Martha Raye. Instead, Arlen and Mercer went right over. Margaret Whiting remembered what happened then:
"Five Long Years" is a song written and recorded by blues vocalist/pianist Eddie Boyd in 1952. Called one of the "few postwar blues standards [that has] retained universal appeal", Boyd's "Five Long Years" reached number one on the Billboard R&B chart. Numerous blues and other artists have recorded interpretations of the song.
"Five Long Years" is a moderate-tempo twelve-bar blues notated in 12/8 time in the key of C. It tells of "the history of the metal worker who, for five years, worked hard in a factory and who gave his check every Friday night to his girlfriend, who nevertheless dumped him". Backing Boyd (vocal and piano) are Ernest Cotton (tenor sax), L. C. McKinley (guitar), Alfred Elkins (bass), and Percy Walker (drums). "Five Long Years" was revisited by Boyd several times during his career, with additional studio and live recordings.
A variety of artists have recorded "Five Long Years", including Junior Parker, whose version reached number thirteen in the R&B chart (1959 Duke 306); Willie B. Huff and Johnny Fuller recorded it for Bob Geddins as I've Been Thinkin' and Thinkin', John Lee Hooker from his album The Folk Lore of John Lee Hooker (1961); The Yardbirds from their album Five Live Yardbirds (1963); Muddy Waters in 1963; Long John Baldry from Long John's Blues (1964); Ike & Tina Turner from Outta Season (1968); Bobby "Blue" Bland from his album If Loving You is Wrong (1970); Freddie King from his album Getting Ready (1971); B.B. King from Guess Who (1972); and Buddy Guy from Damn Right, I've Got the Blues (1991), and Eric Clapton from From The Cradle (1994).
Recorded June 16, 1965 from KNUZ-AM 1230 radio in Houston, Texas.

In Fall of 2009, I hunted black wildebeest in Africa in order to again "meet my meat." My wonderful guide was Chris Bolton, of Zungah Safaris, in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. After the hunt, we transported the meat to a well-known Cape Town Chef, Pete Goff, of The Kitchen Cowboys. This was a very emotional experience for me and my friend, Sonja Kroop, who was shooting most of the footage. We had not anticipated the hunt nor filming, when we arrived to visit a friend in Cape Town, so the footage quality is old mini-dv, not high quality HD. Some viewers may find this to be GRAPHIC CONTENT, as it shows the killing of an animal for food.
The Round-Up In Winter, 2009, Ashley Chiles and her two long-time Texas compadres, Amy Esacove & Patrice Shackelford decided to "meet their meat" on a wild boar hunt in South Texas. Ashley recruits two well-known Houston chefs: Bryan Caswell of Reef, El Real, & Little Bigs, as well as J.J. "Papa-Beav" Jones of Beavers Restaurant, and master boar-Hunter & guide, Lupe Flores.
Teaser of my first feature length experimental video (66min.). Genre Hybrid, mix between a cheap tv travel show, a psychological thriller, a ghost movie and an art video. AWARD: Bronze Remi Award in the Experimental/Dogma Section of the 43rd Worldfest Houston (US) SYNOPSIS: A TV travel show from Belgium on the culture and history of Jordan quickly shifts into a psychological thriller in which the TV host faces her own monstrous fears. The fairy-tale landscapes of Jordan become more and more grim in the eyes of it's schizophrenic guide who is haunted by the voice of the Edimmu, embittered “undead”, known to use the fears of its victims against themselves The story serves as a sort of metaphor for the troublesome times in Near/Middle East and the mutual mistrust between the East and the We...
Hero, Amy Esacove, field-dresses the wild boar I shot...under hunting guide, Lupe's guidance, while chefs Bryan Caswell and J.J. Jones & Patrice watching in awe. Bryan Caswell can be quoted in the film..."That's why I came, to see the field-dressing. I didn't believe you were going to do it." Of COURSE we do it. Do you think we're going to let the men of the world say, "they may shoot, but they let the guys do all the dirty work." NO WAY.

Herbert Buckingham Khaury (April 12, 1932 – November 30, 1996), better known by his stage name Tiny Tim, was an American singer, most of the time ukulele player, and musical archivist. He is best remembered for his hit "Tiptoe Through the Tulips" sung in a high falsetto/vibrato voice. At eleven years of age Khaury began learning to play the violin, and later picked up the mandolin, and what would be considered his signature instrument, the ukulele, and enjoyed performing at home for his parents. In a 1968 interview on The Tonight Show, he described the discovery of his ability to sing in an upper register: "I was listening to the radio and singing along; as I was singing I said 'Gee, it's strange. I can go up high as well.'" In a 1969 interview he said he was listening to Rudy Vallee sing...

Pressure slowly building like a sky about to rain
Something so electric in the air
All this time we're killing only leads us back again
To the feeling that's been waitin' for us here
It's too late
To be cautious
If it's a mistake
It's one we're meant to make
Shoot the moon
'Cause one heart is the most we can lose
And if we shoot the moon
There's no way that the stars can refuse
Feel the tiger stalkin' in the jungle of the heart
Hungry for the tender and the warm
We can keep on talkin' but as long as we're apart
The feeling just can't break into a storm
Take a chance
When the music is playing
You dance
There's no reason we can't
Shoot the moon
'Cause one heart is the most we can lose
And if we shoot the moon
There's no way that the stars can refuse
Finding you here
Had the odds of a million to one
And you're the one
Now it's up to us
To finish what fate has begun
Take a chance
When the music is playing
You dance
There's no reason we can't
Shoot the moon
'Cause one heart is the most we can lose
And if we shoot the moon
There's no way that the stars can refuse
Shoot
Shoot
To
We shoot the moon
Shoot the moon (There's nothing standing in our way)
And if we shoot the moon (It's just the chance we have to take)
Shoot the moon (There's nothing standing in our way)
'Cause one heart is the most we can lose
