Houston (i/ˈhjuːstən/ HYOO-stən) is the most populous city in Texas and the fourth most populous city in the United States. With a census-estimated 2014 population of 2.239 million people, within a land area of 599.6 square miles (1,553 km2), it also is the largest city in the Southern United States, as well as the seat of Harris County. It is the principal city of Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land, which is the fifth most populated metropolitan area in the United States.
Houston was founded in 1836 on land near the banks of Buffalo Bayou (now known as Allen's Landing) and incorporated as a city on June 5, 1837. The city was named after former General Sam Houston, who was president of the Republic of Texas and had commanded and won at the Battle of San Jacinto 25 miles (40 km) east of where the city was established. The burgeoning port and railroad industry, combined with oil discovery in 1901, has induced continual surges in the city's population. In the mid-twentieth century, Houston became the home of the Texas Medical Center—the world's largest concentration of healthcare and research institutions—and NASA's Johnson Space Center, where the Mission Control Center is located.
CBS This Morning is an American morning television program that is broadcast on CBS. The program, which shares its title with a more traditionally formatted morning program that aired on the network from 1987 to 1999, airs Monday through Saturdays from 7:00 to 9:00 a.m. in all time zones (airing live in the Eastern Time Zone and on tape-delay in the Central and Mountain Time Zones; stations in the Pacific Time Zone receive an updated feed with a specialized opening and updated live reports). It is the tenth distinct morning news-features program format that CBS has aired since 1954, having replaced The Early Show on January 9, 2012.
The weekday edition of the program is currently anchored by Charlie Rose, Gayle King and Norah O'Donnell. The program emphasizes general national and international news stories and in-depth reports throughout each edition, although it also includes live in-studio and pre-taped interviews. The format was chosen as an alternative to the soft news and lifestyle-driven formats of competitors Today and Good Morning America following the first hour or half-hour of those broadcasts, in an attempt to give the program a competitive edge with its hard news format (CBS has historically placed third in the ratings among the network morning shows).

When I started gardening a few years ago, everyone told me that you cannot grow apples in Houston because zone 8 B does not provide enough chill hours necessary to grow apples. See what two apple tree varieties will grow in Houston! Apples in Houston? Yes!

I've played around with papaya for many years. It is a great plant to grow here in Houston. In order to get a lot of productivity it needs to be in full sun on a raised mound with good drainage and lots of fertility(supplemental irrigation helps). Basically "grow it in or beside a sunny compost pile". Seeds germinate best between April and August so what you need to do is keep in in a pot through its first winter(for cold protection) so that it has the size and momentum to produce its first year. After that it is just about saving the trunk in future freezes. Banking soil or mulch, or wrapping in christmas lights and then a moving blanket are both good strategies. Best of luck in your garden endeavors

All great things must come to end. This has been the best year I have had so far with tomato, sweet peppers and cucumber gardening. The harvest was incredible and I gave more food away then I could ever possibly eat. I have only been gardening for three years, but each year I learn more and more and try to eliminate mistakes from the previous year. Texas is a hard place to garden with the weather, rain and pests we have. I think I am starting to figure out how to grow better tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers and retain 90% of my harvest instead of the heat or pests taking the harvest. It is now time to shut down the garden and prep it for the fall season and fall crops to plant. Thanks for joining me this summer in my Houston, Texas garden!

Remarks by eldest daughter Sehr Charania, senior manager for external affairs. I got to sit at their table at the back of the sold out luncheon in the ballroom at the Hilton Houston Post Oak. The worst time of year to grow tomatoes and cucumbers is June or July in Houston Texas, it is too hot, wet and humid. One of the best places in the US to grow these things in the fall is south Texas and in particular Houston Texas. If you live in Texas and enjoy gardening, think about starting a fall cucumber, tomato or pepper garden. You will need to start your seeds in August for a great harvest in November and December. Many people in Texas have Spring and early summer gardens, but they make the mistake of missing the best time of year to grow traditional summer crops, in the fall. Happy harvest and long live Texas gardening!
