Turning is a machining process in which a cutting tool, typically a non-rotary tool bit, describes a helical toolpath by moving more or less linearly while the workpiece rotates. The tool's axes of movement may be literally a straight line, or they may be along some set of curves or angles, but they are essentially linear (in the nonmathematical sense). Usually the term "turning" is reserved for the generation of external surfaces by this cutting action, whereas this same essential cutting action when applied to internal surfaces (that is, holes, of one kind or another) is called "boring". Thus the phrase "turning and boring" categorizes the larger family of (essentially similar) processes. The cutting of faces on the workpiece (that is, surfaces perpendicular to its rotating axis), whether with a turning or boring tool, is called "facing", and may be lumped into either category as a subset.
Turning can be done manually, in a traditional form of lathe, which frequently requires continuous supervision by the operator, or by using an automated lathe which does not. Today the most common type of such automation is computer numerical control, better known as CNC. (CNC is also commonly used with many other types of machining besides turning.)
A film festival is an organized, extended presentation of films in one or more cinemas or screening venues, usually in a single city or region. Increasingly, film festivals show some films outdoors. Films may be of recent date and, depending upon the festival's focus, can include international and domestic releases. Some festivals focus on a specific film-maker or genre (e.g., film noir) or subject matter (e.g., horror film festivals). A number of film festivals specialise in short films of a defined maximum length. Film festivals are typically annual events. Some film historians do not consider Film Festivals as official releases of film, like Jerry Beck. The best known film festivals are the Venice Film Festival, the Cannes Film Festival, the Toronto Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival, and the Berlin International Film Festival, the latter being the largest film festival worldwide, based on attendance. The Venice Film Festival is the oldest major festival. The Melbourne International Film Festival is the largest film festival in the Southern Hemisphere and one of the oldest in the world. A 2013 study found 3,000 active films festivals worldwide—active defined as having held an event in the previous 24 months.
Turning point may refer to:
A short film is any film not long enough to be considered a feature film. Although no consensus exists as to where that boundary is drawn, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences defines a short film as "an original motion picture that has a running time of 40 minutes or less, including all credits". The term featurette originally applied to a film longer than a short subject, but shorter than a standard feature film.
The increasingly rare term short subject means approximately the same thing. An industry term, it carries more of an assumption that the film is shown as part of a presentation along with a feature film. Short is an abbreviation for either term. Short films are often screened at local, national, or international film festivals and made by independent filmmakers for non profit, either with a low budget or no budget at all. They are usually funded by film grants, non profit organizations, sponsor, or personal funds. Short films are generally used by filmmakers to gain experience and/or prove their talent in order to gain funding for future films from private investors, entertainment companies, or film studios.
Turning on the lathe is one of the most common metalcutting operations. Lathes are particularly suited to machining relatively long, cylindrical workpieces, yet can create a variety of parts ranging from small watch components to massive propeller shafts. Part of the Fundamental Manufacturing Processes Video Series, this program provides a broad understanding of the turning process including segments on basic lathe turning, lathe types, automation and tool arrangements, turning operations, cutting tool factors, and operating parameters. The basic lathe turning segment focuses on the elements that the lathe. Terms such as spindle, headstock, carriage, cross slide compound rest, tool post, and tailstock are defined and detailed. Lathe workholding devices such as chucks, collets, mandrels,...

This video demonstrates a technique for milling a redwood log into slabs of wood with a homemade Alaskan Mill. Filmed by Julie Joynt. Interviewer asks basic questions so that a person unfamiliar with milling techniques can learn how to mill slabs of wood with their chainsaw without spending money for additional equipment.

The help and support of friends is crucial in a project like KORUA Shapes. As a thank you, we organized a weekend camping adventure on a mountain pass that lies only minutes from some of Europe's best resorts. Most guys showed up in camper vans, others simply planned to crash in the front seat of their cars. The idea was to spend some quality time in good company, enjoy a couple of beers, test out some new shapes and have as much fun as possible, all while filming a new edit along the way. Using the excuse of having to gather more footage, we ended up doing several more of these trips throughout the spring. Featuring: Nicholas Wolken, Gabriele Torriani, Pepe Regazzi, Thomas Stöckli, Aaron Schwartz, Raphael Rocha, Ivo Florin, Kuno Egli, Filip Zuan, Vitus Zenz, Stephan Maurer, Armando Guetg...
When Droga5 got in touch from New York to ask if we wanted to pitch on a commercial to launch the new hydrogen powered Toyota we jumped at the chance to be involved in such a pioneering point in the history of motoring. We then received a truly brave script that engages the viewer in the provocative and absorbing debate surrounding this sustainable alternative to fossil fuels. Brief The brief called for simplicity, elegance, and sophistication in the film, whilst ensuring a palpable sense of a human hand in the visual storytelling. This felt like an incredibly refreshing and inventive way of marketing a new car and was something we were thrilled to be a part of. The sensibilities of the project were completely aligned with our creative approach and working methods as a studio. Approach W...

[The women of Paris mourn their lost loved ones.]
Women
Did you see them
Going off to fight?
Children of the barricade
Who didn't last the night?
Did you see them
Lying where they died?
Someone used to cradle them
And kiss them when they cried.
Did you see them
Lying side by side?
Who will wake them?
No one ever will.
No one ever told them
That a summer day can kill.
They were schoolboys
Never held a gun
Fighting for a new world
That would rise up like the sun
Where's that new world
Now the fighting's done?
Nothing changes, nothing ever will
Every year another brat, another mouth to fill.
Same old story, what's the use of tears?
What's the use of praying if there's nobody who hears?
Turning, turning, turning, turning, turning
Through the years.
Turning, turning, turning through the years
Minutes into hours and the hours into years.
Nothing changes, nothing ever can
Round and round the roundabout and back where you began!
