I wish there was more of this "ambient jungle". Seba and Alaska releases are all very acutely peaceful to listen to.

7. Oymyakon, Russia
This little town in Russia has been officially identified as one of the two coldest places on Earth that are regularly inhabited with the other one being the previously mentioned town of Verkhoyansk. There’s only around 500 citizens that are crazy enough to endure such harsh winter temperatures. Because of where the village is positioned, a day will only get 21 hours in June while a day in December only gets 3 hours. The lowest temperature that ever occurred here was back in 1924 when the temperature dropped to a frigid negative 71.2 degrees Celsius or negative 96 degrees Fahrenheit.
6. Denali, Alaska
This mountain in Alaska, formerly known as Mount McKinley, happens to be the highest mountain peak in all of North America thanks to its summit elevation of 6,190 meters or 20,310 feet above sea level. The reason that the mountain range was formerly called McKinley was because a gold prospector named it after the presidential candidate William McKinley as part of his support. It was changed in 2015 to Denali which is what the native people refer to it as. It’s also considered to be the coldest mountain on earth. The air temperature here usually falls to be around negative 40 degrees Celsius which is also the same in Fahrenheit.
5. Yakutsk, Russia
This Russian city happens to be the capital of the Sakha Republic where an estimated population of around 300,000 people live. Here, the weather gets drastically cold enough to where the average temperature for the city’s winters is around negative 34 degrees Celsius or negative 29.2 degrees Fahrenheit. This is considered to be the coldest city of its size or greater in the entire world. In the following image, we see just how bundled the citizens have to be in order to just walk outside as this woman walks across a snow covered bridge.
4. The Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station
This United States South Pole station was first established back in 1956 and was named after Roald Amundsen and Robert F. Scott who were both led expeditions to the Antarctic region. That was way back when the original station was constructed but over the years the station has been destroyed, rebuilt, expanded, and even upgraded throughout the years. Around 200 people lived here during the summer season and the number dwindles down to 50 come winter time. The coldest temperature drop that this area has ever experienced was when the air was at a freezing negative 73 degrees Celsius or negative 99 degrees Fahrenheit.

The Dome Argus is a plateau that is located in East Antarctica and lies 4,091 meters or 13,421 feet above sea level. The lowest temperature that was ever recorded here in this icy wasteland happened back in July of 2005. It got so cold here that the temperature dropped down to negative 82.5 degrees Celsius or -116.5 degrees Fahrenheit. This area also happens to be the “highest point of an ice sheet in the Antarctic region,” along with being one of the driest areas on Earth as well.

This Russian weather monitoring station can be found in the icy tundra of the Antarctic where it lies at 3,488 meters or 11,443.6 feet above sea level. This makes the area have low oxygen levels and there’s almost no moisture in the air. Temperatures here can reach anywhere from negative 32.1 degrees Celsius or negative 25.8 degrees Fahrenheit, which is the warmest it gets, to, well, even colder than that. Vostok station broke the record for the lowest temperature ever recorded on Earth which it set back on January 21, 1983.

Located on the East Antarctic Plateau is the Dome Fuji Ridge which is located in between Dome Argus and Dome Fuji. It’s here that the lowest temperature on earth was seen and picked up by a NASA satellite. It was back in August of 2010 that the temperature reached a mind-numbing negative 93.2 degrees Celsius or negative 135.8 degrees Fahrenheit and stole the record from the Vostok Station, however, it’s not official as it wasn’t declared by Guinness so technically Vostok remains the coldest. Yeah, it’s a weird situation.

Celsius
Celsius, historically known as centigrade, is a scale and unit of measurement for temperature. As an SI derived unit, it is used by most countries in the world. It is named after the Swedish astronomer Anders Celsius (1701–1744), who developed a similar temperature scale. The degree Celsius (°C) can refer to a specific temperature on the Celsius scale as well as a unit to indicate a temperature interval, a difference between two temperatures or an uncertainty. Before being renamed to honour Anders Celsius in 1948, the unit was called centigrade, from the Latin centum, which means 100, and gradus, which means steps. The logical name for the unit was the one mostly used until the media and education establishment were 'encouraged' to switch to the honorary title.
From 1744 until 1954, 0 °C was defined as the freezing point of water and 100 °C was defined as the boiling point of water, both at a pressure of one standard atmosphere with mercury being the working material. Although these defining correlations are commonly taught in schools today, by international agreement the unit "degree Celsius" and the Celsius scale are currently defined by two different temperatures: absolute zero, and the triple point of VSMOW (specially purified water). This definition also precisely relates the Celsius scale to the Kelvin scale, which defines the SI base unit of thermodynamic temperature with symbol K. Absolute zero, the lowest temperature possible, is defined as being precisely 0 K and −273.15 °C. The temperature of the triple point of water is defined as precisely 273.16 K and 0.01 °C.

6. Denali, Alaska
This mountain in Alaska, formerly known as Mount McKinley, happens to be the highest mountain peak in all of North America thanks to its summit elevation of 6,190 meters or 20,310 feet above sea level. The reason that the mountain range was formerly called McKinley was because a gold prospector named it after the presidential candidate William McKinley as part of his support. It was changed in 2015 to Denali which is what the native people refer to it as. It’s also considered to be the coldest mountain on earth. The air temperature here usually falls to be around negative 40 degrees Celsius which is also the same in Fahrenheit.
5. Yakutsk, Russia
This Russian city happens to be the capital of the Sakha Republic where an estimated population of around 300,000 people live. Here, the weather gets drastically cold enough to where the average temperature for the city’s winters is around negative 34 degrees Celsius or negative 29.2 degrees Fahrenheit. This is considered to be the coldest city of its size or greater in the entire world. In the following image, we see just how bundled the citizens have to be in order to just walk outside as this woman walks across a snow covered bridge.
4. The Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station
This United States South Pole station was first established back in 1956 and was named after Roald Amundsen and Robert F. Scott who were both led expeditions to the Antarctic region. That was way back when the original station was constructed but over the years the station has been destroyed, rebuilt, expanded, and even upgraded throughout the years. Around 200 people lived here during the summer season and the number dwindles down to 50 come winter time. The coldest temperature drop that this area has ever experienced was when the air was at a freezing negative 73 degrees Celsius or negative 99 degrees Fahrenheit.
3. The Dome Argus, Antarctic Plateau
The Dome Argus is a plateau that is located in East Antarctica and lies 4,091 meters or 13,421 feet above sea level. The lowest temperature that was ever recorded here in this icy wasteland happened back in July of 2005. It got so cold here that the temperature dropped down to negative 82.5 degrees Celsius or -116.5 degrees Fahrenheit. This area also happens to be the “highest point of an ice sheet in the Antarctic region,” along with being one of the driest areas on Earth as well.
2. The Vostok Station, Antarctica
This Russian weather monitoring station can be found in the icy tundra of the Antarctic where it lies at 3,488 meters or 11,443.6 feet above sea level. This makes the area have low oxygen levels and there’s almost no moisture in the air. Temperatures here can reach anywhere from negative 32.1 degrees Celsius or negative 25.8 degrees Fahrenheit, which is the warmest it gets, to, well, even colder than that. Vostok station broke the record for the lowest temperature ever recorded on Earth which it set back on January 21, 1983.

Finally. Here we are. We’ve reached the end of our list and now we’re at what is considered to be the coldest area in the known world. Located on the East Antarctic Plateau is the Dome Fuji Ridge which is located in between Dome Argus and Dome Fuji. It was back in August of 2010 that the temperature reached a mind-numbing negative 93.2 degrees Celsius or negative 135.8 degrees Fahrenheit and stole the record from the Vostok Station, however, it’s not official as it wasn’t declared by Guinness so technically Vostok remains the coldest. Yeah, it’s a weird situation.

It's not everyday you get a phone call saying there is an empty seat in a heli with your name on it, so when Lexi Dupont called up Colter Hinchliffe and I (Leo Ahrens) with that very offer, we didn't even think twice about pulling the trigger. First attempt at a trailer for the video of "the long way to Bangkok." I decided to make a few trailers just to give me a chance to practice before I go ahead and make the real thing - and to check all my software and hardware can cope with the HD video content. I'm off to the countryside tomorrow to do some Muay Thai for a couple of weeks so won't have another chance to practice for a little while - but will get to work on some more light hearted trailers! Ketchikan is a small town located five hundred and twenty six nautical miles north of Vancouver and was founded by the Tlingit Indians. In the 1880’s the town based its economy on salmon and timber but today relies upon tourism. Since 1900, Juneau has been the capital city of Alaska, the forty ninth state of the U.S.A. In 1880, Joe Juneau, Richard Harris and their Tlingit Indian leader, Chief Kowee, discovered gold in Gold Creek and the gold rush began. Glacier Bay was completely covered by ice and glaciers around four thousand years ago during the Little Ice Age. The ice melted and the ever-changing glaciers are today situated within the arms of the bay which stretches almost a hundred kilometres to the north. Barrow is the northernmost point of inhabited North America and five hundred kilometres north of the Arctic Circle. The living conditions in the arctic wastelands are extremely harsh and most of the year it is bone-chillingly cold. Even today the promise of untamed nature and boundless freedom attracts us to America’s final wilderness. Alaska is full of wild extremes and stark contrasts, a fascinating land of pure adventure!

The history of the region began millions of years ago when mighty tectonic plates collided. The force of the collision folded the granite and sedimentary rock together at a huge elevation which subsequently formed the highest mountain in North America, Mount Mckinley. The coniferous forests consist primarily of birch and fir and deciduous trees and shrubs cover the stone-based valleys. An amazing variety of bushes, herbs and flowers turn the landscape into an array of bright colour. On the thin humus above the permafrost soil there’s vegetation such as Reindeer Moss, Wild Flowers, Reed Grass and Berries. The bright white fur of the dall sheep provide perfect camouflage in winter. Their favorite location is steep, rocky slopes where they feel safe from predators such as grizzly bears and wolves. The park was established primarily to protect the wild animals that were destroyed in large numbers by hunters at the beginning of the Gold Rush. But today Denali National Park is a natural paradise, a wilderness at the end of the world!

It's not everyday you get a phone call saying there is an empty seat in a heli with your name on it, so when Lexi Dupont called up Colter Hinchliffe and I (Leo Ahrens) with that very offer, we didn't even think twice about pulling the trigger. Even if it did mean we only had 24 hours to travel 2000 + miles to Haines, Alaska.
This wasn't your typical AK film trip by any means. We cycled our roll from athlete, to guide, to cinematographer in order to document this Alaskan cherry popping experience. Maybe not the preffered method of action but for us it was perfect. For us it was AK // OUR WAY

I decided to make a few trailers just to give me a chance to practice before I go ahead ...
First attempt at a trailer for the video of "the long way to Bangkok."
I decided to make a few trailers just to give me a chance to practice before I go ahead and make the real thing - and to check all my software and hardware can cope with the HD video content. I'm off to the countryside tomorrow to do some Muay Thai for a couple of weeks so won't have another chance to practice for a little while - but will get to work on some more light hearted trailers! I hope this trailer conveys some of the epic scenes we encountered on our journey to Bangkok.
The map is a bit blurred I know...need to find a higher res map so If anyone has one...
All video content straight from the camera - always learning new things about video...I already wish I had taken more footage and used a higher contrast setting. Its all practice though and the videos are just going to get better and better!
June 14th 2010, three students and one full time worker were about to embark on a huge adventure. Myself, David Schulte, Sasirapa Charlanawat and Wei Tang had decided to go to Thailand from London by land. We were going to use buses, local drivers, trains, boats and a good pair walking boots to get us to our final destination of Bangkok by the 4th August 2010.
It took a few months of planning due to the mass of required visas and the coordination of dates that are associated with time restricted travel. The route developed naturally - or shall I say, I wanted as tough a route as possible and to get away from all commercial tourism.
It was originally just myself who planned to take on this trip and infact, my class mates laughed when they first heard my plan. Little did they know that several months later they would be sitting on a three day bus journey through the heart of Mongolia. After hearing an urge to travel from my good friend Dave, I invited him along for the ride.
The rough plan was to head quickly through Europe by train torwards Moscow. We would spend a few days in Moscow before getting a train to Novosibirsk which was around 50 hours away from Moscow. This is where my desire for tough travel started to kick in. It is a fairly simple task to ride a train from Moscow to Ulaanbaatar directly and this is what most tourists do. Not satisfied with that, I found some information on other routes into Mongolia, primarily through the Altai region. There wasn't so much information available on the net and pretty much zero information in the guide books so I thought this would be the right route for Sam Spicer. I sent a few emails to the UK embassy in Mongolia to check up on the border crossings and whether they were still open. Upon recieving a reply from the embassy the route was decided. We would get off at Novosibirsk, catch a bus down to Barnaul where we would then find a local guide and his jeep to take us down through the Altai Republic heading torwards the Mongolian Border. Once at Kosh Agach (a small market town before the strictly controlled border area) we would need to hitch a ride over the border into Mongolia. Ofcourse this was all a bit unpredictable but thats how I like to travel. The back up plan would be to back track back to Novosibirsk and wait for a train direct to Ulaanbaatar.
Next up we would have to catch a bus or hire a vehicle to take us from Western Mongolia to Ulaanbaatar, the capital city. We planned to stay a whole week in Ulaanbaatar so we would be there for the Naadam games which was quite an experience to say the least. We had reserved train tickets for the Mongolia - Beijing train leaving on the 16th July knowing full well a lot of Naadam festival tourists would be taking the same route.
After Beijing, Shanghai was next on the list followed by a train right across China into Yunnan province. From the city of Kunming we would make our way down by bus to the Mekong river to catch a special boat which goes directly to Thailand (Via laos and Burma without the need for visas). The original plan was to be in Thailand by the first of August to meet with my Thai teacher who lives in Chiang Mai. Not all went to plan, but I'll let you read the photo descriptions for an explanation.
The final leg would be a simple overnight train down from Chiang Mai to Bangkok where we would send Dave off to the airport back to sunny England...or maybe to be a dog sledge racer in Alaska (A slight development mid trip).
Not all went to plan but it was an amazing trip. Dave, Sasi and Vivien had not travelled like this before and did really well making it through some of the tougher parts of the journey. Even Sam Spicer himself was struggling on the three day bus journey.

In Episode 3 of Higher Unplugged, Jeremy Jones and his fellow athletes travel to Snowbird Resort to refine their mountaineering and rescue skills at the International Pro Riders’ Workshop presented by Teton Gravity Research and ICEdot. Alexis Margaret Smith grew up in Soldotna, Alaska, and Seattle, Washington. She attended Mount Holyoke College, Portland State University, and Goddard College, where she earned an MFA in Creative Writing. Her writing has appeared in Tarpaulin Sky and on Powells.com. She currently lives in Portland, Oregon, with her son, two cats, and their beloved view of the St. Johns bridge. Her debut novel, Glaciers, was published by Tin House in 2012.
Samiya Bashir's poetry, stories, articles and editorial work have been featured in numerous publications including, most recently and forthcoming, in Poet Lore, Michigan Quarterly Review, Crab Orchard Review, Cura, The Rumpus, Literature: Craft & Voice, Callaloo, and Encyclopedia Vol. 2 F-K. A long-time communications professional focused on editorial, arts, and social justice movement building, she is a founding organizer of Fire & Ink, an advocacy organization and writer's festival for LGBT writers of African descent and a recipient of the 2011 Aquarius Press Legacy Award, given annually in recognition of women writers of color who actively provide creative opportunities for other writers. She currently lives in Portland, Oregon, where she teaches creative writing at Reed College. Her debut collection of poetry, Where the Apple Falls, was published by RedBone Press in 2005.
James Bernard Frost is the author of the novel World Leader Pretend, and the award-winning travel guide The Artichoke Trail. His fiction and non-fiction has been published in many places, including the San Francisco Examiner, the San Francisco Bay Guardian, and Wired. He lives in Portland, Oregon with the author Kerry Cohen, their four children, the rain, the freaks, and the trees. His bike is currently in disrepair. His debut travel guide, The Artichoke Trail, was published in 2000 by Hunter Publishing.

“What is true wilderness? I don’t know if I‘ve ever really been there. But I do know that this trip seems to have a gravity all its own. There is something undefinable that has brought us here, to a river, two hundred miles north of the Arctic Circle, where even the definition of wilderness is insignificant.”

The story centers on the three Bonesteel’s excursion into the Brooks Range of Alaska, their unexpected separation, and their journey that unfolded through the mountains, tundra and rivers of Alaska's Gates of the Arctic National Park.
Caribou Bones is an elaborate "home movie," with Paul utilizing the trip itself and his family's archive of super 8mm footage connect events from the past to emotions of the present. Released in 1995, the film garnered festival screenings and was broadcast on Georgia Public Television as a Father's Day Special.
“At the center of Caribou Bones is the emotional connection between spending time in wilderness and being an active and compassionate member of a family,” says producer/director Paul Bonesteel about his third documentary.
Contributing to the uniqueness of the project, Paul enlisted his father and older brother to assist in the writing of the script. In their own words and voice-over narration, they take a three-way story approach to emphasize the personal nature of the adventure.
“Many strong and meaningful emotions lie just beneath the surface of many families. The trip into the Alaskan wilderness, and the subsequent production of the documentary, brought many of those emotions to the surface for my father, my brother and myself."
An all original sound track by Paul Bonesteel, and songs from the band Chief Seattle (of which Paul was a member), guide the visuals of wilderness travel into a deeply personal, yet universally appealing message of family love and outdoor appreciation.
Director’s thoughts from 2014:
Caribou Bones was a coming-of-age story for us Bonesteel men. Not an adolescent ‘coming of age’ story, but about becoming men and reflecting on life within a family. Remembering a fishing trip his father had taken him on, my father had long wanted to take us on a father-sons adventure, and this was the time. Twenty one years have now gone by since the shooting of the film in August of 1992. Peter Bonesteel is now 78 years old and my brother Jon and I have been through more than half our lives with all the joys, trials and responsibilities that come with living. But I think we all feel like that trip, including the filmmaking component, has been a highlight in our lives and in the making of our relationships.
Looking at this film from today’s vantage point, technically, it was limited by the tools of the day. Just like some of my other early films, I was adamant about making the film and was going to do it with whatever technology I could muster. In this case it was my trusty Canon L1 high 8mm video camera. I had to ration 5 batteries over the duration of the 7 day trip and that was a challenge; trying to decide when and when not to shoot. Beyond the fact that, technically, I wish it could express the beauty of Alaska better, I’m content that the film moved me forward both personally and professionally. As a songwriter and performer I had put myself in front of people before but this was first time I had ventured into making a ‘personal’ documentary. Films like Ross McElwee’s Sherman’s "March" inspired me to believe that a story like this could possibly be universal enough to keep a viewer’s interest. When it aired in June of 1995, I remember receiving a phone call at about midnight from a stranger who tracked me down just to express to me, as a father and a son, how meaningful the film was the him. That meant a lot. I hope you enjoy the film and share it with someone.

7. Oymyakon, Russia
This little town in Russia has been officially identified as one of the two coldest places on Earth that are regularly inhabited with the other one being the previously mentioned town of Verkhoyansk. There’s only around 500 citizens that are crazy enough to endure such harsh winter temperatures. Because of where the village is positioned, a day will only get 21 hours in June while a day in December only gets 3 hours. The lowest temperature that ever occurred here was back in 1924 when the temperature dropped to a frigid negative 71.2 degrees Celsius or negative 96 degrees Fahrenheit.
6. Denali, Alaska
This mountain in Alaska, formerly known as Mount McKinley, happens to be the highest mountain peak in all of North America thanks to its summit elevation of 6,190 meters or 20,310 feet above sea level. The reason that the mountain range was formerly called McKinley was because a gold prospector named it after the presidential candidate William McKinley as part of his support. It was changed in 2015 to Denali which is what the native people refer to it as. It’s also considered to be the coldest mountain on earth. The air temperature here usually falls to be around negative 40 degrees Celsius which is also the same in Fahrenheit.
5. Yakutsk, Russia
This Russian city happens to be the capital of the Sakha Republic where an estimated population of around 300,000 people live. Here, the weather gets drastically cold enough to where the average temperature for the city’s winters is around negative 34 degrees Celsius or negative 29.2 degrees Fahrenheit. This is considered to be the coldest city of its size or greater in the entire world. In the following image, we see just how bundled the citizens have to be in order to just walk outside as this woman walks across a snow covered bridge.
4. The Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station
This United States South Pole station was first established back in 1956 and was named after Roald Amundsen and Robert F. Scott who were both led expeditions to the Antarctic region. That was way back when the original station was constructed but over the years the station has been destroyed, rebuilt, expanded, and even upgraded throughout the years. Around 200 people lived here during the summer season and the number dwindles down to 50 come winter time. The coldest temperature drop that this area has ever experienced was when the air was at a freezing negative 73 degrees Celsius or negative 99 degrees Fahrenheit.
3. The Dome Argus, Antarctic Plateau
The Dome Argus is a plateau that is located in East Antarctica and lies 4,091 meters or 13,421 feet above sea level. The lowest temperature that was ever recorded here in this icy wasteland happened back in July of 2005. It got so cold here that the temperature dropped down to negative 82.5 degrees Celsius or -116.5 degrees Fahrenheit. This area also happens to be the “highest point of an ice sheet in the Antarctic region,” along with being one of the driest areas on Earth as well.
2. The Vostok Station, Antarctica
This Russian weather monitoring station can be found in the icy tundra of the Antarctic where it lies at 3,488 meters or 11,443.6 feet above sea level. This makes the area have low oxygen levels and there’s almost no moisture in the air. Temperatures here can reach anywhere from negative 32.1 degrees Celsius or negative 25.8 degrees Fahrenheit, which is the warmest it gets, to, well, even colder than that. Vostok station broke the record for the lowest temperature ever recorded on Earth which it set back on January 21, 1983.

El legendario tiburón blanco es un pez cartilaginoso que ha causado temor y admiración desde hace muchísimos años. Es considerado el depredador más grande de los mares y el más fiero, pero hay más imaginación que verdad en esta sentencia. Su reputación de “devorador de hombres” también está alejada de la realidad.
El tiburón blanco es miembro de la clase Chondrichthyes, de la subclase Elasmobranchii, del orden Lamniformes, de la familia Lamnidae y del género Carcharodon.
El cuerpo del tiburón blanco es robusto y fusiforme, de unos 4-7 metros de longitud pero el promedio es de 6 metros. Su peso se sitúa entre 3,000 y 3,400 kilogramos. Las hembras adultas alcanzan un peso y longitud mayor que los machos, los cuales suelen ser 2 metros más pequeños.
Tiene un hocico estrecho y puntiagudo, 2 aletas pectorales y una primera aleta dorsal con forma de triángulo. La aleta caudal tiene forma de media luna y su lóbulo superior e inferior son largos y de tamaño muy similar, casi simétricos. La boca mide 0.9 a 1.2 metros de ancho; está provista de varias hileras de dientes triangulares, puntiagudos y aserrados que el escualo muda varias veces durante toda su vida. Posee pequeños ojos color ónix y narinas hacia el final del hocico.Exhibe contracoloración del cuerpo, ya que mientras el dorso es gris o azulado, la zona inferior es más clara. Esta característica otorga una ventaja a la hora de la caza pues las presas no se percatan de la figura del tiburón, que se confunde con el fondo del mar.
Su sentido del olfato es muy agudo y esto facilita la detección de presas a gran distancia, aunado a la presencia de las ampollas de Lorenzini con las que detecta los campos eléctricos de los animales en movimiento.
El rango de distribución del gran tiburón blanco es muy amplio; abarca desde 60° latitud norte hasta 60°latitud sur y se le puede encontrar en aguas costeras tropicales así como templadas y frías. En general, la temperatura de las aguas que habita oscila entre 12° y 24° Celsius.
Se localiza con más frecuencia en las costas de Norteamérica desde Terranova hasta el sur de México, pasando por Alaska y Florida. Fuera de América el tiburón blanco gusta principalmente de las aguas de Sudáfrica, del mar Mediterráneo, de Japón y de Oceanía. Está especialmente concentrado en la isla Dyer de Sudáfrica y por eso se han realizado ahí numerosas investigaciones acerca de su vida.
Sus hábitats son las costas y las plataformas continentales e insulares cuyas aguas no superan 1,875 metros de profundidad. A mar abierto, habita a profundidades de hasta 1,200 metros. Es un tiburón epipelágico que ha sido visto cerca de la superficie en multitud de ocasiones, pero no es una especie eminentemente costera.
La dieta de este tiburón es, por supuesto, carnívora. Sin embargo no suele alimentarse de especies grandes, sino de animales más pequeños como calamares, rayas y otros peces. Los ejemplares adultos incluyen a otros tiburones, a focas, a leones marinos, a delfines y cadáveres de ballenas; en ocasiones atrapan tortugas y aves marinas y las consumen. Tiene una marcada preferencia por las presas ricas en grasa.
Tiene diversas estrategias de caza en función de la especie objetivo y del tamaño de esta. Lo más usual es que, una vez detectado su potencial alimento mediante la electrorrecepción, se ubique debajo y posteriormente se dirija sigilosamente en forma vertical. Ya más cerca, propina un severo mordisco y espera que el animal se desangre y muera para después dedicarse a comerlo. Si la presa se resiste trata de sujetarla con los dientes inferiores mientras los inferiores desgarran los tejidos. Las formas más comunes de muerte en las presas son la decapitación, la mutilación y la pérdida de sangre.
Es un animal mayormente solitario sin que esto signifique que no se pueda reunir con otros de su misma especie. Se le ha visto unas pocas veces acompañado de una hembra o un macho y hasta en grupos pequeños. Se presume que en sus grupos hay dominancia jerárquica y las hembras están a la cabeza, pero entre todos, los grandes someten a los pequeños, y los residentes del grupo durante largo tiempo dominan a los recién llegados.
Está activo tanto en el día como en la noche. Curiosamente, acostumbra saltar sobre la superficie del agua en intervalos de tiempo cortos para observar a su alrededor y buscar presas. No es agresivo con sus congéneres pero si se siente amenazado es posible que muerda a su oponente como medida de advertencia.
La mayoría de las personas temen especialmente al tiburón blanco y se le considera una máquina come-hombres. Cierto es que es un depredador fuerte y efectivo, pero no siente debilidad por los humanos. Los ataques resultan de la confusión de un humano con una presa y si bien dan una “mordida de prueba”, es poco probable que mate una vez que constata que no se trata de su alimento habitual.
