Alaska (i/əˈlæskə/) is a U.S. state situated in the northwest extremity of the North American continent. Bordering the state to the east are the Canadian territory of Yukon and the Canadian province of British Columbia; to the north are the Chukchi and Beaufort Seas, southern parts of the Arctic Ocean. To the west and south is the Pacific Ocean, with Russia (specifically, Chukotka Autonomous Okrug and Kamchatka Krai) farther west across the Bering Strait. Alaska is the largest state in the United States by area, the 3rd least populous and the least densely populated of the 50 United States. Approximately half of Alaska's residents (estimated at 738,432 by the Census Bureau in 2015) live within the Anchorage metropolitan area. Alaska's economy is dominated by the oil, natural gas, and fishing industries, resources which it has in abundance. Tourism and military bases are also a significant part of the economy.
Although it had been occupied for over ten thousand years by indigenous peoples, from the 18th century onward, European powers considered the territory of Alaska ripe for exploitation and trade. The United States purchased Alaska from the Russian Empire on March 30, 1867, for 7.2 million U.S. dollars at approximately two cents per acre ($4.74/km2). The area went through several administrative changes before becoming organized as a territory on May 11, 1912. It was admitted as the 49th state of the U.S. on January 3, 1959.
Like a Version is a weekly segment on the Australian radio station Triple J. It involves Australian and international artists playing live in the Triple J studio, typically performing one of their own songs and then a cover version, hence the name of the segment. The title is wordplay on Like a Virgin.
It was created by Mel Bampton as part of the Mel in the Morning program. The segment was later moved to Robbie Buck's Drive program, and then to the Breakfast Show. Due to the intimate nature of the studio, the performance is often acoustic or otherwise stripped-back, however some bands have stretched this concept. The segment has grown in popularity over the years, leading to the release of compilation CDs featuring the best covers. Some particularly well-received covers have also made it into the Triple J Hottest 100. All Like a Version performances are filmed by Triple J and are made available on the Triple J website and YouTube channel.
Like a Version is comparable to BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge and Irish Today FM's Even Better Than the Real Thing.
The Kooks are a British rock band formed in Brighton, East Sussex, in 2004. The band currently consists of Luke Pritchard (vocals/guitar), Hugh Harris (lead guitar/synth), Alexis Nunez (drums), and Peter Denton (bass guitar). The original bassist was Max Rafferty. The lineup of the band remained constant until the departure of Rafferty in 2008. Dan Logan served as a temporary replacement, until Peter Denton joined the band permanently in October 2008. Early in 2010, Pritchard announced the departure of drummer Paul Garred, due to a nerve problem in his arm. Late in the year, Garred rejoined for studio sessions, however Chris Prendergast played drums when the band played live. In 2012, the band was accompanied on drums by Alexis Nunez (from Golden Silvers), who eventually joined the band full-time.
A self-described "pop" band, their music is primarily influenced by the 1960s British Invasion movement and post-punk revival of the new millennium. With songs described as "catchy as hell", The Kooks have experimented in several genres including rock, Britpop, pop, reggae, ska, and more recently, funk and hip-hop, being described once as a "more energetic Thrills or a looser Sam Roberts Band, maybe even a less severe Arctic Monkeys at times".

Travel video about destination Denali National Park in Alaska. Denali National Park is located about six hundred and thirty miles from the southern coast of Alaska and is nine thousand six hundred square miles of original Sub-Arctic wilderness. The history of the region began millions of years ago when mighty tectonic plates collided. The coniferous forests consist primarily of birch and fir and deciduous trees and shrubs cover the stone-based valleys. An amazing variety of bushes, herbs and flowers turn the landscape into an array of bright colour. On the thin humus above the permafrost soil there’s vegetation ...

It's not everyday you get a phone call saying there is an empty seat in a heli with your name on it, so when Lexi Dupont called up Colter Hinchliffe and I (Leo Ahrens) with that very offer, we didn't even think twice about pulling the trigger. Even if it did mean we only had 24 hours to travel 2000 + miles to Haines, Alaska. This wasn't your typical AK film trip by any means. We cycled our roll from athlete, to guide, to cinematographer in order to document this Alaskan cherry popping experience. Maybe not the preffered method of action but for us it was perfect. After unprecedented weather patterns in the Spring of 2014 and the tragic death of friend and mountain guide Aaron Karitis, the Stellar Media crew was forced to leave the dependable 'watering hole' of Haines, Alaska. "Canceling the season was one of the most difficult decisions I've ever made, but it's always important to follow your instincts." says Director of Photography, Will Wissman. Within 48 hours plans were altered to travel eastward to Iceland where the crew explored new terrain on the Troll Peninsula. Our herding nature led us to new adventures in Chile and the feeding frenzy of powder snow and in Japan. From the mountains to the ocean we continue to search for the right place at the right time. 12 months later Stellar Media is back in Alaska for the 2015 season. The past yea...

Caribou Bones (1995) A documentary by Paul Bonesteel “What is true wilderness? I don’t know if I‘ve ever really been there. But I do know that this trip seems to have a gravity all its own. There is something undefinable that has brought us here, to a river, two hundred miles north of the Arctic Circle, where even the definition of wilderness is insignificant.” -Paul Bonesteel, from the film’s narration The story centers on the three Bonesteel’s excursion into the Brooks Range of Alaska, their unexpected separation, and their journey that unfolded through the mountains, tundra and rivers of Alaska's Gates of the Arctic National Park. Caribou Bones is an elaborate "home movie," with Paul utilizing the trip itself and his family's archive of super 8mm footage connect events from the pas...
