Adaptación cinematográfica de la excelente novela de Mario Vargas Llosa. Santo Domingo (República Dominicana), 1992. Urania Cabral (Isabella Rossellini) regresa a su ciudad natal. Apenas reconoce al viejo calvo y desdentado que yace en su lecho, mudo e inmóvil, casi inerte. Es su padre, Agustín Cabral, alias "Cerebrito", Presidente del Senado y mano derecha del dictador Rafael Trujillo durante muchos, muchos años. Hasta que cayó en desgracia. Pero de aquello ha pasado mucho tiempo. Todo ello lo recuerda Urania, a través de su ingenua mirada infantil. Se lo cuenta a su tía y a sus primas, que no entienden por qué Uranita ha estado tanto tiempo sin venir a verlos, a ellas y a su propio padre. Urania les cuenta que tampoco ha podido olvidar el día en que Agustín, inexplicablemente, fue repudiado por el Jefe. Hubiera hecho cualquier cosa por él, por recuperar su favor. En aquellos mismos días, Amadito, Antonio de la Maza y otros conspiradores planeaban acabar con la vida del Chivo, acribillándolo en su Chevrolet, y terminar así, tras tres décadas de feroz dictadura, con uno de los dictadores más crueles y sanguinarios de América Latina.

Luis Llosa
Luis Llosa (born 1951) is a Peruvian film director. He is best known for Sniper, The Specialist, and Anaconda.
Career
Luis Llosa was originally a film critic. He is known for his early Peruvian work, English-language exploitation films made for producer Roger Corman, and bigger-budget American films. His most well-known film, Anaconda, stars Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Jon Voight, and Eric Stoltz. Anaconda was nominated for multiple Razzie Awards, including worst director, but it grossed $136 million worldwide and became a cult film.
He founded Iguana Productions, which produces Peruvian films and telenovelas such as Escándalo, Torbellino and Latin Lover.
Personal life
Llosa was born in 1951 in Lima, Peru. He is the cousin of the Peruvian novelist Mario Vargas Llosa, and his niece is film director Claudia Llosa.

Vargas Llosa
Vargas Llosa is the surname of two prominent Peruvian intellectuals who are father and son.
Although the name appears to consist of a first name, a middle name and a last name, Vargas Llosa is in fact the complete surname (Spanish-speaking countries use a paternal last name followed by a maternal last name), and falls alphabetically under the letter V. In a library, bookstore, bibliography or similar place, it is not correct to file the works of either of these authors under the letter L or Ll.

Crime Zone
Crime Zone (Calles Peligrossas in Peru) is a 1989 American-Peruvian dystopian science fiction film directed by Luis Llosa, written by Daryl Haney, and starring David Carradine, Peter Nelson, Sherilyn Fenn, and Michael Shaner. Carradine plays a mysterious stranger who recruits young lovers in an illicit romance (Nelson and Fenn) to commit a crime spree in a futuristic police state, promising them an avenue for escape.
The film was executive produced by Roger Corman, who came up with the original concept. Due to a perceived lack of Peruvian qualities, it was better received by American than Peruvian critics. Corman's New Concorde co-produced and distributed it. After its Los Angeles premiere, it was released on VHS by MGM/UA.
Plot
In the fictional country Soleil, a brutal police state at war with Frodan, the government sets up a criminal, Hector, who walks into a police trap. Hector is captured alive at the behest of the police chief and is executed live on television after a brief show trial. Bone, who has recently lost his job at a cryogenics facility for not showing the proper respect to authority, meets Helen, a woman forced into prostitution at the government-sanctioned whorehouse. They are immediately attracted to each other and begin an illegal romance despite several close calls with the police. Bone's friend Creon becomes jealous of their relationship and demands that Bone share Helen with him; disgusted, Bone refuses, and they eventually come to blows over Creon's behavior.

Stephanie Cayo
Stephanie Cristina Cayo Sanguinetti (born 8 April 1988) is a Peruvian actress, singer, and model.
As a child, she made her first notable acting appearance in Travesuras del Corazón, a Peruvian soap opera. She later appeared as a primary character in several telenovelas, particularly gaining international exposure playing the main female character in the internationally-broadcast Besos Robados. Most recently, she has played the main character in the telenovela La Marca del Deseo (a remake of Las Juanas), appearing with Juan Alfonso Baptista.
In 2011, she released her first music album Llegaré, with Colombian producer Jose Gaviria. She is currently living in Colombia, following a successful career as an actress. She is currently starring in "Club de Cuervos" Netflix's spanish language series.

"The Specialist" ist ein Erotik-Thriller mit Sharon Stone und Sylvester Stallone. Ja, ihr dürft gerne den vergangenen Satz noch einmal lesen ... und noch einmal ... und noch einmal. Eure Augen spielen euch keinen Streich, dieses Genre und diese beiden Namen sind tatsächlich im selben Satz zu lesen. Einen zweiten Film vom Kaliber eines "Basic Instinct" wird sich bei dieser Produktion kaum einer erwarten. Eines kann ich aber bereits verraten: Der Film unterhält ... wenngleich auch nicht ganz auf die Art, die sich die Macher erhofft hatten. Mit schon fast klamaukhaften Bomben, einem in einigen Szenen herrlich überdrehten James Woods und unglaublich aufgesetzt wirkenden Erotik-Elementen scheint "The Specialist" ein perfekter Kandidat für ein weiteres Review-Special. Wieder einmal analysiere ich besondere Elemente der Story und der Charaktere besonders genau und gebe detaillierte Einblicke in den Film und dessen Stärken und Schwächen. Viel Spaß beim Anschauen! -

Eure Augen spielen euch keinen Streich, dieses Genre und diese beiden Namen sind tatsächlich im selben Satz zu lesen. Einen zweiten Film vom Kaliber eines "Basic Instinct" wird sich bei dieser Produktion kaum einer erwarten. Eines kann ich aber bereits verraten: Der Film unterhält ... wenngleich auch nicht ganz auf die Art, die sich die Macher erhofft hatten. Jorge Mario Pedro Vargas Llosa nació en Arequipa, Perú, el 28 de marzo de 1936, en el seno de una familia de clase media de ascendencia mestiza y criolla, sus padres se separaron antes de su nacimiento, y el futuro escritor vivió con su familia materna en Arequipa y posteriormente se trasladaron con el abuelo a Bolivia, donde pasó los primeros años de su niñez, junto con su madre y la familia de esta. La primera obra de García Márquez que conoció Vargas Llosa fue El coronel no tiene quien le escriba. La leyó en francés cuando trabajabaen la radiotelevisión de Francia para un programa de libros. “Me gustó mucho por su realismo tan estricto, con esa descripción tan precisa de ese viejo coronel inasequible al desaliento, reclamando una jubilación que nunca llegará”, afirmó el escritor peruano.
A este primer encuentro literario, le siguió una intensa correspondencia, en la que incluso pergeñaron una novela a cuatro manos sobre una guerra entre Perú y Colombia en la región del Amazonas, que al final no fructificó. Cuando se vieron por primera vez en el aeropuerto de Caracas en 1967, en el momento en que Vargas Llosa recibía el Premio Rómulo Gallegos por La casa verde y Gabriel García Márquez acaba de publicar Cien años de soledad, ya sentían “una simpatía recíproca y eran íntimos amigos”.

A este primer encuentro literario, le siguió una intensa correspondencia, en la que incluso pergeñaron una novela a cuatro manos sobre una guerra entre Perú y Colombia en la región del Amazonas, que al final no fructificó. Cuando se vieron por primera vez en el aeropuerto de Caracas en 1967, en el momento en que Vargas Llosa recibía el Premio Rómulo Gallegos por La casa verde y Gabriel García Márquez acaba de publicar Cien años de soledad, ya sentían “una simpatía recíproca y eran íntimos amigos”.

Jorge Mario Pedro Vargas Llosa nació en Arequipa, Perú, el 28 de marzo de 1936, en el seno de una familia de clase media de ascendencia mestiza y criolla, sus padres se separaron antes de su nacimiento, y el futuro escritor vivió con su familia materna en Arequipa y posteriormente se trasladaron con el abuelo a Bolivia, donde pasó los primeros años de su niñez, junto con su madre y la familia de esta. En 1945 la familia entera regresó al Perú y se establecieron en Piura donde estudió en los salesianos. En 1947 sus padres restablecieron su relación y se trasladaron a Lima. En Lima estudió en el Colegio La Salle, de la congregación Hermanos de las Escuelas Cristianas. La relación con su padre fue siempre tortuosa y lo marcó de por vida. A los 14 años, su padre lo envió al Colegio Militar Leoncio Prado, en el Callao, un internado donde cursó el 3º y el 4º año de educación secundaria, entre 1950 y 1951. Allí soportó una férrea disciplina militar, y, según su testimonio, fue la época en la que se consolidó su vocación de escritor, esta experiencia se convertiría en el motivo principal de su primera novela La ciudad y los perros.
Durante las vacaciones veraniegas de 1952, Vargas Llosa empezó a trabajar como periodista en el diario limeño La Crónica, ese mismo año se retiró del colegio militar y se trasladó a Piura, donde vivió con su tío Luis Llosa y cursó el último año de educación secundaria en el colegio San Miguel de Piura. En 1953 ingresó a la Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, donde estudió Derecho y Literatura. Participó en la política universitaria a través de Cahuide, nombre con el que se mantenía vivo el Partido Comunista Peruano, poco tiempo después se distanció del grupo y se inscribió en el Partido Demócrata Cristiano de Héctor Cornejo Chávez. En 1955, contrajo matrimonio con Julia Urquidi, su tía política por parte materna.
Recibió la beca Javier Prado para seguir cursos de posgrado en la Universidad Complutense de Madrid, en España, de allí se mudó a París. El matrimonio se divorció y un año después, Vargas Llosa se casó con su prima, Patricia Llosa. En la capital francesa terminó de escribir su primera novela, La ciudad y los perros, y allí entró en contacto con Carlos Barral, director de la editorial Seix Barral. La novela consiguió en 1962 el Premio Biblioteca Breve. En 1966, durante la lectura que hizo de La casa verde, la entonces responsable de derechos de la editorial, Carmen Balcells, decidió proponerse al escritor para convertirse en su agente literario. Lo animó a centrarse exclusivamente en la literatura y le consiguió sustento económico durante el tiempo que durase la redacción de Conversación en La Catedral, a condición de que el contrato con la editorial lo hiciese ella. A partir de ese momento, se convirtió en su agente y llegó a conseguirle grandes contratos.
En 1971 obtuvo el Doctorado en Filosofía y Letras por la Universidad Complutense de Madrid.

Su más reciente novela El héroe discreto (2013) retorna su ambiente al Perú.

"The Specialist" ist ein Erotik-Thriller mit Sharon Stone und Sylvester Stallone. Ja, ihr dürft gerne den vergangenen Satz noch einmal lesen ... und noch einmal ... und noch einmal. Eure Augen spielen euch keinen Streich, dieses Genre und diese beiden Namen sind tatsächlich im selben Satz zu lesen.
Einen zweiten Film vom Kaliber eines "Basic Instinct" wird sich bei dieser Produktion kaum einer erwarten. Eines kann ich aber bereits verraten: Der Film unterhält ... wenngleich auch nicht ganz auf die Art, die sich die Macher erhofft hatten. Mit schon fast klamaukhaften Bomben, einem in einigen Szenen herrlich überdrehten James Woods und unglaublich aufgesetzt wirkenden Erotik-Elementen scheint "The Specialist" ein perfekter Kandidat für ein weiteres Review-Special.
Wieder einmal analysiere ich besondere Elemente der Story und der Charaktere besonders genau und gebe detaillierte Einblicke in den Film und dessen Stärken und Schwächen.

Tras los aguaceros caídos del cielo, llegó el torrente de palabras del escritor Mario Vargas Llosa. En un diálogo con el ensayista Carlos Granés, el Premio Nobel 2010, que ya se había referido en otras ediciones de los Cursos de Verano a Octavio Paz, Jorge Luis Borges o los vanguardistas peruanos, se centró en la vida y obra de Gabriel García Márquez, Premio Nobel 1982, y más concretamente en su “estrecha” amistad y también en sus desencuentros políticos y literarios. Granés, director del seminario García Márquez: más allá del realismo mágico, en el que colabora la Cátedra Vargas Llosa, definió este encuentro como un particular coloquio entre dos “titanes” de la literatura.
La primera obra de García Márquez que conoció Vargas Llosa fue El coronel no tiene quien le escriba. La leyó en francés cuando trabajabaen la radiotelevisión de Francia para un programa de libros. “Me gustó mucho por su realismo tan estricto, con esa descripción tan precisa de ese viejo coronel inasequible al desaliento, reclamando una jubilación que nunca llegará”, afirmó el escritor peruano.
A este primer encuentro literario, le siguió una intensa correspondencia, en la que incluso pergeñaron una novela a cuatro manos sobre una guerra entre Perú y Colombia en la región del Amazonas, que al final no fructificó. Cuando se vieron por primera vez en el aeropuerto de Caracas en 1967, en el momento en que Vargas Llosa recibía el Premio Rómulo Gallegos por La casa verde y Gabriel García Márquez acaba de publicar Cien años de soledad, ya sentían “una simpatía recíproca y eran íntimos amigos”.

García Marquez y Vargas Llosa, entre la amistad y los desencuentros
Tras los aguaceros caídos del cielo, llegó el torrente de palabras del escritor Mario Vargas Llosa. En un diálogo con el ensayista Carlos Granés, el Premio Nobel 2010, que ya se había referido en otras ediciones de los Cursos de Verano a Octavio Paz, Jorge Luis Borges o los vanguardistas peruanos, se centró en la vida y obra de Gabriel García Márquez, Premio Nobel 1982, y más concretamente en su “estrecha” amistad y también en sus desencuentros políticos y literarios. Granés, director del seminario García Márquez: más allá del realismo mágico, en el que colabora la Cátedra Vargas Llosa, definió este encuentro como un particular coloquio entre dos “titanes” de la literatura.
La primera obra de García Márquez que conoció Vargas Llosa fue El coronel no tiene quien le escriba. La leyó en francés cuando trabajabaen la radiotelevisión de Francia para un programa de libros. “Me gustó mucho por su realismo tan estricto, con esa descripción tan precisa de ese viejo coronel inasequible al desaliento, reclamando una jubilación que nunca llegará”, afirmó el escritor peruano.
A este primer encuentro literario, le siguió una intensa correspondencia, en la que incluso pergeñaron una novela a cuatro manos sobre una guerra entre Perú y Colombia en la región del Amazonas, que al final no fructificó. Cuando se vieron por primera vez en el aeropuerto de Caracas en 1967, en el momento en que Vargas Llosa recibía el Premio Rómulo Gallegos por La casa verde y Gabriel García Márquez acaba de publicar Cien años de soledad, ya sentían “una simpatía recíproca y eran íntimos amigos”.

Jorge Mario Pedro Vargas Llosa nació en Arequipa, Perú, el 28 de marzo de 1936, en el seno de una familia de clase media de ascendencia mestiza y criolla, sus padres se separaron antes de su nacimiento, y el futuro escritor vivió con su familia materna en Arequipa y posteriormente se trasladaron con el abuelo a Bolivia, donde pasó los primeros años de su niñez, junto con su madre y la familia de esta. En 1945 la familia entera regresó al Perú y se establecieron en Piura donde estudió en los salesianos. En 1947 sus padres restablecieron su relación y se trasladaron a Lima. En Lima estudió en el Colegio La Salle, de la congregación Hermanos de las Escuelas Cristianas. La relación con su padre fue siempre tortuosa y lo marcó de por vida. A los 14 años, su padre lo envió al Colegio Militar Leoncio Prado, en el Callao, un internado donde cursó el 3º y el 4º año de educación secundaria, entre 1950 y 1951. Allí soportó una férrea disciplina militar, y, según su testimonio, fue la época en la que se consolidó su vocación de escritor, esta experiencia se convertiría en el motivo principal de su primera novela La ciudad y los perros.
Durante las vacaciones veraniegas de 1952, Vargas Llosa empezó a trabajar como periodista en el diario limeño La Crónica, ese mismo año se retiró del colegio militar y se trasladó a Piura, donde vivió con su tío Luis Llosa y cursó el último año de educación secundaria en el colegio San Miguel de Piura. En 1953 ingresó a la Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, donde estudió Derecho y Literatura. Participó en la política universitaria a través de Cahuide, nombre con el que se mantenía vivo el Partido Comunista Peruano, poco tiempo después se distanció del grupo y se inscribió en el Partido Demócrata Cristiano de Héctor Cornejo Chávez. En 1955, contrajo matrimonio con Julia Urquidi, su tía política por parte materna.
Recibió la beca Javier Prado para seguir cursos de posgrado en la Universidad Complutense de Madrid, en España, de allí se mudó a París. El matrimonio se divorció y un año después, Vargas Llosa se casó con su prima, Patricia Llosa. En la capital francesa terminó de escribir su primera novela, La ciudad y los perros, y allí entró en contacto con Carlos Barral, director de la editorial Seix Barral. La novela consiguió en 1962 el Premio Biblioteca Breve. En 1966, durante la lectura que hizo de La casa verde, la entonces responsable de derechos de la editorial, Carmen Balcells, decidió proponerse al escritor para convertirse en su agente literario. Lo animó a centrarse exclusivamente en la literatura y le consiguió sustento económico durante el tiempo que durase la redacción de Conversación en La Catedral, a condición de que el contrato con la editorial lo hiciese ella. A partir de ese momento, se convirtió en su agente y llegó a conseguirle grandes contratos.
En 1971 obtuvo el Doctorado en Filosofía y Letras por la Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
Tras la publicación de la monumental Conversación en La Catedral, Vargas Llosa se distanció de los temas de mayor seriedad e incursionó en un tono más humorístico en obras como Pantaleón y las visitadoras (1973), La tía Julia y el escribidor.
En 1981 apareció La guerra del fin del mundo, su primera novela histórica y una de las más importantes de su carrera. Tras un período de intensa actividad política, Vargas Llosa volvió a ocuparse en la literatura y en 1993 se publicó su libro autobiográfico, El pez en el agua, la novela Lituma en los Andes y la obra de teatro El loco de los balcones. A la histórica Lituma le seguiría la erótica Los cuadernos de don Rigoberto (1997). La Fiesta del Chivo (2000), y El paraíso en la otra esquina (2003), que alterna la historia del pintor Gauguin con la de su abuela. Su más reciente novela El héroe discreto (2013) retorna su ambiente al Perú.
Vargas Llosa es uno de los máximos representantes del llamado Boom latinoamericano. Ha recibido los más importantes galardones como el Premio Nobel, en 2010, el Premio Cervantes o el Rómulo Gallegos.
