In North America, Europe and Oceania, the decade was particularly revolutionary in terms of popular music as it saw the formation and evolution of rock music. At the beginning of the decade, pop and rock and roll trends of the 1950s continued, yet, the rock and roll of the 50s started to merge into a more international, eclectic variant known as rock music. By the mid part of the decade, 1950s rock and roll in its purest form started to be overtaken by pop rock, beat, psychedelic rock, blues rock and folk rock, which had grown in popularity. The country and folk-influenced style associated to the latter-half of rock music in the 1960s spawned a generation of popular singer-songwriters who wrote and performed their own work. Towards the latter half of the decade, genres such as Baroque pop, sunshine pop, bubblegum pop, progressive rock and heavy metal started to grow popular, with the latter two finding greater success in the following decade. The 1960s additionally saw the rise in popularity of funk and soul music; rhythm and blues in general remained popular throughout the decade, and this style was commonly associated to girl groups of the time, whose fusion of R&B; and gospel with rock and roll enjoyed success until the mid-part of the decade. Aside from the popularity of rock and R&B; music in the 1960s, Latin American as well as Jamaican and Cuban music achieved a degree of popularity throughout the decade, with genres such as bossa nova, the cha-cha-cha, ska, and calypso being popular. From a classical point of view, the 60s were also an important decade as they saw the development of experimental, jazz and contemporary classical music, notably minimalism and free improvisation.

Baroque
The Baroque (US /bəˈroʊk/ or UK /bəˈrɒk/) is often thought of as a period of artistic style that used exaggerated motion and clear, easily interpreted detail to produce drama, tension, exuberance, and grandeur in sculpture, painting, architecture, literature, dance, theater, and music. The style began around 1600 in Rome, Italy, and spread to most of Europe.
The popularity and success of the Baroque style was encouraged by the Catholic Church, which had decided at the time of the Council of Trent, in response to the Protestant Reformation, that the arts should communicate religious themes in direct and emotional involvement. The aristocracy also saw the dramatic style of Baroque architecture and art as a means of impressing visitors and expressing triumph, power and control. Baroque palaces are built around an entrance of courts, grand staircases and reception rooms of sequentially increasing opulence. However, "baroque" has resonance and application that extend beyond a simple reduction to either style or period.

Music
Music is an art form and cultural activity whose medium is sound and silence. The common elements of music are pitch (which governs melody and harmony), rhythm (and its associated concepts tempo, meter, and articulation), dynamics (loudness and softness), and the sonic qualities of timbre and texture (which are sometimes termed the "color" of a musical sound). Different styles or types of music may emphasize, de-emphasize or omit some of these elements. Music is performed with a vast range of instruments and with vocal techniques ranging from singing to rapping, and there are solely instrumental pieces, solely vocal pieces and pieces that combine singing and instruments. The word derives from Greek μουσική (mousike; "art of the Muses"). In its most general form, the activities describing music as an art form include the production of works of music (songs, tunes, symphonies, and so on), the criticism of music, the study of the history of music, and the aesthetic examination of music. Ancient Greek and Indian philosophers defined music as tones ordered horizontally as melodies and vertically as harmonies. Common sayings such as "the harmony of the spheres" and "it is music to my ears" point to the notion that music is often ordered and pleasant to listen to. However, 20th-century composer John Cage thought that any sound can be music, saying, for example, "There is no noise, only sound."

Baroque pop
Baroque pop is a pop rock music subgenre spurred by recording artists from the United States and United Kingdom who infused rock and roll with elements of classical music. Its height of success was in the late-1960s, with several prominent exponents emerging and/or incorporating the genre into their repertoire, including: the Beach Boys, the Moody Blues, the Beatles, the Left Banke, the Fifth Estate, the Rolling Stones, Love and Procol Harum.
Baroque pop's mainstream popularity faded by the 1970s, partially because punk rock, disco and hard rock took over; nonetheless, music was still produced within the genre's tradition, and it exerted an influence on subsequent movements such as Philadelphia soul in the 1970s and chamber pop in the 1990s, which both incorporated the spirit of baroque pop while the latter contested much of the time's low fidelity musical aesthetic.
Since the 1990s, baroque pop has seen a revival; several prominent artists, such as Belle and Sebastian, Regina Spektor and the Divine Comedy, have performed or incorporated elements of the genre in their work.

Gerry and the Pacemakers
Gerry and the Pacemakers were an English beat group prominent during the 1960s. In common with the Beatles, they came from Liverpool, were managed by Brian Epstein, and were recorded by George Martin. They are most remembered for being the first act to reach number one in the UK Singles Chart with their first three single releases. This record was not equalled for 20 years, until the mid-1980s success of fellow Liverpool band Frankie Goes to Hollywood. Consequently, they stand as the second most successful pop group originating in Liverpool.
History
Gerry Marsden formed the group in 1959 with his brother Fred, Les Chadwick and Arthur McMahon. They rivalled the Beatles early in their career, playing in the same areas of Hamburg, Germany and Liverpool. McMahon (known as Arthur Mack) was replaced on piano by Les Maguire around 1961. They are known to have rehearsed at Cammell Laird shipping yard at Birkenhead. The group's original name was Gerry Marsden and the Mars Bars, but they were forced to change this, when the Mars Company, producers of the chocolate Mars Bar, complained.

Howlin' Wolf - Back Door Man In North America, Europe and Oceania, the decade was particularly revolutionary in terms of popular music as it saw the formation and evolution of rock music. At the beginning of the decade, pop and rock and roll trends of the 1950s continued, yet, the rock and roll of the 50s started to merge into a more international, eclectic variant known as rock music. By the mid part of the decade, 1950s rock and roll in its purest form started to be overtaken by pop rock, beat, psychedelic rock, blues rock and folk rock, which had grown in popularity. The country and folk-influenced style associated to the latter-half of rock music in the 1960s spawned a generation of popular singer-songwriters who wrote and performed their own work. Towards the latter half of the decade, genres such as Baroque pop, sunshine pop, bubblegum pop, progressive rock and heavy metal started to grow popular, with the latter two finding greater success in the following decade. The 1960s additionally saw the rise in popularity of funk and soul music; rhythm and blues in general remained popular throughout the decade, and this style was commonly associated to girl groups of the time, whose fusion of R&B; and gospel with rock and roll enjoyed success until the mid-part of the decade. Aside from the popularity of rock and R&B; music in the 1960s, Latin American as well as Jamaican and Cuban music achieved a degree of popularity throughout the decade, with genres such as bossa nova, the cha-cha-cha, ska, and calypso being popular. From a classical point of view, the 60s were also an important decade as they saw the development of experimental, jazz and contemporary classical music, notably minimalism and free improvisation. -

The country and folk-influenced style associated to the latter-half of rock music in the 1960s spawned a generation of popular singer-songwriters who wrote and performed their own work. Towards the latter half of the decade, genres such as Baroque pop, sunshine pop, bubblegum pop, progressive rock and heavy metal started to grow popular, with the latter two finding greater success in the following decade. The 1960s additionally saw the rise in popularity of funk and soul music; rhythm and blues in general remained popular throughout the decade, and this style was commonly associated to girl groups of the time, whose fusion of R&B; and gospel with rock and roll enjoyed success until the mid-part of the decade. Aside from the popularity of rock and R&B; music in the 1960s, Latin American as well as Jamaican and Cuban music achieved a degree of popularity throughout the decade, with genres such as bossa nova, the cha-cha-cha, ska, and calypso being popular. From a classical point of view, the 60s were also an important decade as they saw the development of experimental, jazz and contemporary classical music, notably minimalism and free improvisation.

The 100 greatest pop songs from 2000 to 2009. This list is based on the success of these songs worldwide: Billboard, European charts and World charts. Remember that the songs on this list are arranged according to the success they have achieved all over the world, not only in the United States but in the world. Another very important thing I want to tell you is that I try to choose those songs that are considered mostly or at least more than half: Pop Songs.
Because pop is a very varied genre. There are songs that are not 100% pop and are mixes like: Pop-Rock, Pop & R&B;, Pop Dance, Electro Pop, Disco Pop, Indie Pop, Country Pop, Latin Pop, Euro Pop, Brit Pop, Baroque Pop. Generos that mix with pop that I did not include are Rap, Hip Hop, Jazz, R&B; (This genre is in case where songs are more R&B; than Pop) and others similar to those mentioned. Those songs that have more Rap than Pop are not included. In addition I tried to include songs by artists who are considered pop singers. In terms of songs: The only exception of a song that is more R&B; than pop that is include on this list, it's "Crazy In Love" by Beyoncé. That song is here because the singer it's considered a Pop Singer. Famous Hit Songs Like Tik Tock by Kesha & Bad Romance by Lady Gaga are listed on lowest positions because those songs were realized when the decade of the 2000's was ending, so those songs are considered more part of the 2010's that the 2000's.
