Associate Professor of Department of Traditional Chinese Music, the Central Conservatory of Music (CCM); Guest Soloist of the China Central Chinese Orchestra; Guest Professor at the University of Calgary, Canada.
Yu Hongmei began her erhu study at the age of eight, and she studied at the Attached High School of the ChinaCentral Music University and then the China Central Music University where she earned her Bachelor's and Master's degree. At the university she was taught by professors including Zhang Shao, Su Anguo, Lan Yusong and Liu Changfu; she also learned Banhu, Gaohu, Jinghu, Zhuihu and other national musical instruments with some masters.
She won the "Pro Musicis International Award" in New York City. Her album A Collection of Erhu Concertos of Yu Hong Mei was given the 4th China Golden Record Award. She was also the first Chinese musician to receive the coveted Indie Award in the category of "Best Traditional World Music" for the CD entitled String Glamour. Another solo CD, Red Plum Blossom Capriccio, won the Best Chinese Musical Art Production. In 2002 she gave a successful solo concert in the world's most prestigious concert hall, Carnage Hall in New York where she played as the first Chinese traditional instrument performer. In 2005 she also received the First Prize of "Outstanding Young Teachers" of the Fok Ying Tung Education Foundation.
As a soloist she visited many countries and regions in Europe, America, Africa and Asia and gave more than 100 personal solo concerts. She debuted some outstanding music pieces including the Second Erhu Concerto -- After the Dream of the Capital, Ba Que and Xi Kou Ballad. Many of the important music activities she has attended are the Spring of Prague Musical Festival, the Chinese Art Festival, the Beijing International Music Festival, the Shanghai International Music Festival, the German Music Festival and the Macao Art Festival. She published 14 solo albums.
Yu Hongmei gives out a genuine feeling in her performance which is full of subtle emotions and passionate. She can perfectly interpret the music by incorporating her unique understanding in the performance and is therefore noted as "a performer representing the modern Chinese music and cultural spirit" by the New York Concert Magazine. She also works with the international composers and performers in performing many modern music works. She founded the "Qing MeJing Yue" Chinese Traditional Chamber Music Orchestra for the development and innovation of the modern national string music.

Henan
Henan (Chinese: 河南) is a province of the People's Republic of China, located in the central part of the country. Its one-character abbreviation is "豫" (yù), named after Yuzhou (豫州; Yùzhōu), a Han Dynasty state (zhou) that included parts of Henan. Although the name of the province (河南) means "south of the river", approximately a quarter of the province lies north of the Yellow River, also known as the "Huang He".
Henan is often referred to as Zhongyuan or Zhongzhou (中州) which literally means "central plain land" or "midland", although the name is also applied to the entirety of China proper. Henan is the birthplace of Chinese civilization with over 3,000 years of recorded history, and remained China's cultural, economical, and political center until approximately 1,000 years ago. Numerous heritages have been left behind including the ruins of Shang Dynasty capital city Yin and the Shaolin Temple. Four of the Eight Great Ancient Capitals of China, Luoyang, Anyang, Kaifeng, and Zhengzhou are located in Henan.

Today Lucas is your Tour Guide and he welcomes you to visit Shaolin Temple in Henan Province, China. Shaolin Temple was founded by abbot Batuo in Dengfeng County, who came to China from India[2] in 464 AD to spread Buddhist teachings. Shaolin Monastery is the main temple of the Shaolin school of Buddhism to this day.
Shaolin temple is also a birthplace of Chinese Kung Fu also called Shaolin Wushu and several martial arts schools are present today around the temple. The name Shaolin refers to the forests of Shaoshi (少室; Shǎo Shì) mountain, one of the seven peaks of Song mountains.
The Shaolin monks have made some fame for themselves through their fighting skills and holes in trees made by their finger pokes are still visible to eyes of visitors.
According to legend, Shaolin monastery was the only temple in China that didn’t prohibit alcohol and eating meat. Nowadays monks use modern technology such phones or air conditioning.
Over 1500 years the monastery has been destroyed and rebuilt many times. Today Shaolin Temple is a world tourist landmark and together with its Pagoda Forest that is located 300 m west from monastery was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2010. Shaolin Temple is another great place worthy to visit.

In this Chinese Street Food tour video, I take you around many places in Chengdu. First, I visited this local dan dan noodle shop near the outskirts of Chengdu, Sichuan, China, and found the Chinese street food noodle experience and the atmosphere to be mind blowing and exciting! I visited this busy Chinese restaurant on a Saturday early afternoon at around 11:30 am with already two bowls of noodles in my stomach and looking for more. My goal was to taste as much food and chat with as many locals as possible, that’s the true China experience.It was so busy, with so many people, there were so many different foods to eat and look at, tons of vegetable dishes, meat dishes, everything you could want really. There was fresh Sichuan cold "liangbancai", and a huge back alley seating area where everyone was sitting and feasting. All the locals were chatting loudly and enjoying a Chengdu afternoon.
If you're visiting China as a tourist, I recommend eating at one of these “fly restaurants” (poor hygiene but delicious food) and try a bunch of the food.
However, if you go to the place I did, DO NOT order the intestine dish. It was disgusting.
Instead of trying hot pot in Chengdu or hot pot in Chongqing, you could try some way cooler food in Chengdu at local “fly restaurant" like this. This should be a top priority for traveling in China in my opinion!
Chinese cuisine is so diverse, and I consider myself lucky to be able to live in Sichuan, eating Sichuan food everyday, tasting all the top Chinese foods to try whenever I want. I've decided to stay living in China for at least another 2 or 3 years and study to be a Sichuan chef to get the feel of it and eat as much as I can! I’m currently enrolled at the Sichuan Higher Institute of Cuisine.
The addresses of the locations in the video are:
- The Dandan noodles 红烧牛肉 (Hóngshāo niúròu)
Address:龙泉驿区龙平路527号 (Lóngquányì qū lóng píng lù 527 hào) This is way out in Longquan, near the Longping subway station on Line 2. Only come here if you’re looking to go up the mountain peach blossom area, otherwise, it’s a bit far (unless you’re crazy like me)
2.The famous “fly restaurant” lunch 叁无粉蒸 (sān wú fěn zhēng)
Address: 建设路54号（猛追湾横街中部）
3 The sliced beef in the Chinese muslim area (Chinese Halal Food).
顺记腌卤
Address: 成华区土桥北街6号
This one is a bit far out as well, but this one was definitely worth the long subway ride out. It’s right near Jingke beilu subway station on line 2.
4.The steamed beef Chinese muslim style - wow this was great! Right on the street!
