United Nations

The United Nations (UN) is an intergovernmental organization to promote international co-operation. A replacement for the ineffective League of Nations, the organization was established on 24 October 1945 after World War II in order to prevent another such conflict. At its founding, the UN had 51 member states; there are now 193. The headquarters of the United Nations is in Manhattan, New York City, and experiences extraterritoriality. Further main offices are situated in Geneva, Nairobi and Vienna. The organization is financed by assessed and voluntary contributions from its member states. Its objectives include maintaining international peace and security, promoting human rights, fostering social and economic development, protecting the environment, and providing humanitarian aid in cases of famine, natural disaster, and armed conflict.

During the Second World War, US President Franklin D. Roosevelt initiated talks on a successor agency to the League of Nations, and the United Nations Charter was drafted at a conference in April–June 1945; this charter took effect 24 October 1945, and the UN began operation. The UN's mission to preserve world peace was complicated in its early decades by the Cold War between the US and Soviet Union and their respective allies. The organization participated in major actions in Korea and the Congo, as well as approving the creation of the state of Israel in 1947. The organization's membership grew significantly following widespread decolonization in the 1960s, and by the 1970s its budget for economic and social development programmes far outstripped its spending on peacekeeping. After the end of the Cold War, the UN took on major military and peacekeeping missions across the world with varying degrees of success.

Look Right Through

"Look Right Through" is a song by American record producer Storm Queen. It was first released on October 19, 2010, with two remix packages released through Defected in February 2012. On November 3, 2013, Ministry of Sound re-released the song in Ireland and Britain including new remixes. The vocal remix by MK was hugely successful in the United Kingdom, and helped the track enter at number one on the UK Singles Chart and UK Dance Chart simultaneously on November 10, 2013.

Music video

The video for the original track was released on 20 December 2011. A music video to accompany the release of the MK remix was first released onto YouTube on 23 September 2013 at a total length of three minutes and eleven seconds. Set in the 1920s, it shows an eyepatch-wearing man dressed as a white lion in a suit. After leaving his hotel room, he dances to get attention from women. The video was filmed at The Cadogan Hotel, located in Sloane Street, Knightsbridge, London.

Storm Queen was a notable Australian thoroughbred racehorse.

A bay daughter of Coronation Boy from the mare Storm Gleam, she was foaled in 1963 and was trained throughout her career by Bart Cummings.

Her racetrack debut ended in defeat, but it was followed by eight successive wins in her two-year-old season including victory in the 1966 STC Golden Slipper Stakes.

Retired in 1967 following an unplaced run in the AJC Doncaster Handicap she was unable to match her deeds on the racetrack as a breeding mare.

Radio edit

In music, a radio edit is a modification, typically truncated, to make a song more suitable for airplay, whether it be adjusted for length, profanity, subject matter, instrumentation, or form. Radio edits may also be used for commercial single versions, which may be denoted as the 7" version. However, not all "radio edit" tracks are played on radio.

Editing for time

Radio edits often shorten a long song in order to make it more commercially viable for radio stations. The normal length for songs played on the radio is 3 to 4 minutes. Occasionally, the song will simply fade out earlier, common on tracks with long instrumental endings. For instance, the radio edit of 'Heroes' by David Bowie fades in shortly before the beginning of the third verse and fades out shortly before the vocal vamping at the end of the song. Another example is B.o.B's song, "Nothin' On You" featuring Bruno Mars, whose radio edit skips the first 5 seconds & starts with the 6th second in which Bruno Mars starts singing the first chorus. The second half of the first chorus is sometimes skipped, along with the last 24 seconds which is the normal fade-out part in which B.o.B says, "Yeah, and that's just how we do it/And I'ma let this ride/B.o.B and Bruno Mars", and the radio edit ends with the fourth and last chorus with an earlier fade-out. A 3rd example would be the song, "The Man" by Aloe Blacc, in which the radio edit skips the "I'm the man/Go ahead & tell everybody/What I'm saying ya all" part & the first 10 seconds. Also, the 3rd chorus of the song is shortened. However, many radio edits will also edit out verses, bridges, and interludes, such as the original single edit of "Piano Man" by Billy Joel which substitutes the end of the third verse for the ending of the second verse. Another example for this case is Justin Timberlake's "Mirrors", where the radio edit cuts the entire "You are the love of my life" part.

Plastik Funk

Plastik Funk are a music duo consisting of Rafael Ximenez-Carrillo and Mikio Gruschinske who teamed up with Tujamo and Sneakbo for their single "Dr. Who!", which peaked at number 21 on the UK Singles Chart.

Background

Plastik Funk were formed in 2002 while Ximenez-Carrillo and Gruschinke were at high school. Ximenez-Carrillo was born in Madrid but emigrated to Grevenbroich, Nordrhein-Westfalen, whereas Gruschinke spent the former part of his life in Tokyo before settling in Berlin. They began DJing hip-hop at high school but after hearing the works of Frankie Knuckles and David Morales, switched to house. They met after becoming the DJs at two different nightclubs in Düsseldorf, They released their debut, the "Do It Right" EP, in 2003, and a string of club hits enabled them to tour around Germany and beyond. Since then they have remixed the likes of David Guetta, Robyn, Shaggy, and Deadmau5.

In 2011, they released thirteen singles, one of which was their first hit - a cover of C+C Music Factory's Everybody Dance Now, which penetrated the German charts. As a result, they were asked to commission a number of compilation album, including the German Ministry of Sound's 2009 Sessions. Their largest hit, Who, was first released in 2012 and gained the acclaim of Avicii, and was played at the Miami club the Winter Music Conference. Following its success, they toured all over the world and started living in Spain. In 2014, Who was remixed and turned into Dr. Who! ft. Sneakbo, which charted at #21 on the UK Singles Chart.
