Hyundai has started introducing the new generation Hyundai Verna (codename: Hyundai HHI) internationally, and later this year, it will be India’s turn to receive the car. According to a report from Autocar India, the 2017 Hyundai Verna will reach the Indian shores in August.The 2017 Hyundai Verna measures 4,385 mm in length, 1,729 mm in width and 1,450 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,580 mm. The all-new Verna features an evolutionary design and incorporates the company’s new signature design elements, including the Cascading grille. Compared to the previous generation model, it’s 15 mm longer and 29 mm wider and has a 10 mm longer wheelbase. There is 387 litres of boot space in the car.
Noteworthy features of the fifth-gen Hyundai Verna include wrap-around headlights, LED daytime running lights, 17-inch alloy wheels, 7-inch colour TFT LCD instrument display, 7-inch Display Audio touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, reversing camera, push button start, six airbags, ABS, Electronic Stability Control, Vehicle Stability Management and Traction Control.
The new generation Hyundai Verna is offered with 1.4- and 1.6-litre petrol engines internationally. There’s no affirmative word on this, but the Indian-spec version would have upgraded versions of the current 1.4-litre Gamma petrol, 1.6-litre Gamma petrol, 1.4-litre U2 CRDi diesel and 1.6-litre U2 CRDi VGT diesel engines. Mild-hybrid tech is also on the cards, and it could arrive soon after the car’s launch, possibly by the end of the year. Transmission choices available in the local market include 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual and 4-speed automatic. A 7-speed DCT is offered in other markets, but this technology maybe deemed expensive for India.Hyundai has planned India as one of the export hubs for the all-new Verna and will start shipping out to export markets reportedly in the second half of the year.

However, one car that became a thorn in the City’s foot was the Verna. Not only did it offer many segment first features, it also took advantage of the City’s lack of a diesel engine.
Now though, in their latest avatars, both sedans have a lot more in common, but have individual selling-points that set them apart from each other. So what are these USPs and which car will match your needs better? Here’s a head-to-head to find out exactly that!

Now though, in their latest avatars, both sedans have a lot more in common, but have individual selling-points that set them apart from each other. So what are these USPs and which car will match your needs better? Here’s a head-to-head to find out exactly that!
The comparison starts with the exteriors of both cars, on the front side the nose of Verna looks better with its twin slated chrome grill that makes more sense over City’s fat single piece grill. Moving towards the side both cars have distinct character and shoulder line but City is a new car as Verna with its facelift only got changes at front and rear, while the sides are unchanged. The wheels of both cars attract equally as the diamond cut alloys of Verna look apart , City’s dynamic 5-spoke make a statement of their own. At the rear City stands as a clear winner with its wide angular taillight joined by a sleek dash of chrome.
Dimensionally, Verna and City gets LxWxH as 4375x1700x1475mm and 4440x1695x1495 respectively. While the wheelbase stands at 2600 mm for Honda and 2570 mm for Verna. And mechanically, City gets 1.5 litre i-DTEC that produces 100 PS of power and 200 Nm of Torque. Verna gets a 1.6 litre CRDi motor that produces 128 PS of power and 260 Nm of torque. Both have good fuel economy, but Verna puts out a figure of 23.6 kmpl while City gets an edge with its 26 kmpl.
Performance-wise, Verna gets a strong diesel that helps it pull strongly after 1900 rpms - turbo lag interferes before that - but once it crosses the 1900 mark it gets very active. The City, on the other hand manages the lag in a better way and is smooth to pull. The cabin noise is lesser in Verna than the City.
City’s drive is much more composed than that of Verna as it stays grounded and the weight transfer to the steering is just fine. And comparatively the suspension of Honda is on the stiffer side but that too inspires confidence. The road noise filters inside more in comparison to the Verna.
Inside of these two are in tandem with the time but Honda seems to have an edge as Verna’s cabin is the same as the old car. Honda’s infotainment system gets a better touchscreen with Sat Nav, it also gets sun/moon roof that is absent in Verna. Also, the interior space of City is far better than that of Verna, at the rear City can comfortably accommodate a tall person of over 6 ft height while in case of Verna it is a very tight fit. The boot compartment of Honda might be 510 litre over Verna’s 460 litres but the latter fits luggage more neatly.
On the price perspective both are priced very competitively, Honda City falls in a bracket of Rs. 7.5 to 11.8 lacs while Verna falls in Rs. 7.7 to 12.1 lacs (all prices ex-showroom delhi).
Verdict :
Honda City will be a better choice if your preference is to give equal luxury to every passenger as it is a better family car with more space and comfort. And if you are a person that usually drive alone and prefer performance over mileage and comfort you should go for Hyundai Verna.

For the Chinese market, the 2017 Hyundai Verna is available with two petrol engine options – a 1.4-liter four-cylinder and a 1.6-liter four-cylinder unit. Both engines are carried over from the previous Verna, and are available with 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions. The 1.4-liter petrol develops 100 hp whereas the 1.6-liter petrol produces 123 hp.
Features on the 2017 Verna (2018 Hyundai Accent) include diamond-cut alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, an electric sunroof, automatic climate control, a touchscreen entertainment system with Apple CarPlay and heated front seats.When launched in India this year, the 2017 Hyundai Verna will also offer the 1.4- and 1.6-liter diesel engines paired to manual and automatic gearboxes. Hyundai India’s Managing Director, Mr. Y K Koo, confirmed in an interview last month that the Indian plant will also export the new Verna in “significant” numbers.

Hyundai Accent
The Hyundai Accent (Korean: 현대 엑센트), or Hyundai Verna (현대 베르나) in South Korea, is a subcompact car produced by Hyundai. In Australia, the first generation models carried over the Hyundai Excel name used by the Accent's predecessor. The Accent was replaced in 2000 by the Hyundai Verna in South Korea, although most international markets, including the USA, retained the "Accent" name.
The Accent is produced for the Chinese market by Beijing Hyundai Co., a joint venture with Beijing Automotive Industry Corp. For Russian market it is assembled by TagAZ plant in Taganrog. In Mexico, the Accent is marketed by Chrysler as the Dodge Attitude, previously Verna by Dodge. In Venezuela, Chrysler marketed them as Dodge Brisa until 2006. The Brisa was assembled by Mitsubishi Motors at its plant in Barcelona, Venezuela. Since 2002, the Accent had been the longest-running small family car sold in North America. In Puerto Rico, it has been sold as the Hyundai Brio. In Russia, it is sold as the Hyundai Solaris.

Hyundai
Hyundai Group (Hangul: 현대그룹; hanja: 現代그룹; /ˈhjʌndɛ/) was a multinational chaebol (conglomerate) headquartered in Seoul, South Korea. It was founded by Chung Ju-yung in 1947 as a construction firm and Chung was directly in control of the company until his death in 2001.

Honda City
The first generation Honda City was a subcompact car and is now a compact car since the fourth generation, and is manufactured by the Japanese manufacturer Honda from 1981. Originally made for the Japanese, European and Australasian markets, the City was retired in 1994 after the second generation.
The nameplate was revived in 1996 for use on a series of compact four-door sedans aimed primarily at developing markets, first mainly sold in Asia outside Japan but later also in Latin America and Australia. From 2002 to 2008, the City was also sold as the Honda Fit Aria in Japan. It is a compact sedan built on Honda's Global Small Car platform, which it shares with the Fit/Jazz (a five-door hatchback), the Airwave/Partner (a wagon/panel van version of the Fit Aria/City), the Mobilio, and the Mobilio Spike—all of which share the location of the fuel tank under the front seats rather than rear seats. For the Chinese market, the 2017 Hyundai Verna is available with two petrol engine options – a 1.4-liter four-cylinder and a 1.6-liter four-cylinder unit. Both engines are carried over from the previous Verna, and are available with 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions. The 1.4-liter petrol develops 100 hp whereas the 1.6-liter petrol produces 123 hp. Features on the 2017 Verna (2018 Hyundai Accent) include diamond-cut alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, an electric sunroof, automatic climate control, a touchscreen entertainment system with Apple CarPlay and heated front seats.When launched in India this year, the 2017 Hyundai Verna will also offer the 1.4- and 1.6-liter diesel engines paired to manual and automatic gearboxes. Hyundai has started introducing the new generation Hyundai Verna (codename: Hyundai HHI) internationally, and later this year, it will be India’s turn to receive the car. The City has been Honda’s crown prince in India since it was launched in 1998. The model has become a brand in itself and even the Maruti Suzuki SX4 couldn’t beat the Japanese sedan. However, one car that became a thorn in the City’s foot was the Verna. Not only did it offer many segment first features, it also took advantage of the City’s lack of a diesel engine.
Now though, in their latest avatars, both sedans have a lot more in common, but have individual selling-points that set them apart from each other. So what are these USPs and which car will match your needs better? Here’s a head-to-head to find out exactly that!

Now though, in their latest avatars, both sedans have a lot more in common, but have individual selling-points that set them apart from each other. So what are these USPs and which car will match your needs better? Here’s a head-to-head to find out exactly that!
The comparison starts with the exteriors of both cars, on the front side the nose of Verna looks better with its twin slated chrome grill that makes more sense over City’s fat single piece grill. Moving towards the side both cars have distinct character and shoulder line but City is a new car as Verna with its facelift only got changes at front and rear, while the sides are unchanged. The wheels of both cars attract equally as the diamond cut alloys of Verna look apart , City’s dynamic 5-spoke make a statement of their own. At the rear City stands as a clear winner with its wide angular taillight joined by a sleek dash of chrome.
Dimensionally, Verna and City gets LxWxH as 4375x1700x1475mm and 4440x1695x1495 respectively. While the wheelbase stands at 2600 mm for Honda and 2570 mm for Verna. And mechanically, City gets 1.5 litre i-DTEC that produces 100 PS of power and 200 Nm of Torque. Verna gets a 1.6 litre CRDi motor that produces 128 PS of power and 260 Nm of torque. Both have good fuel economy, but Verna puts out a figure of 23.6 kmpl while City gets an edge with its 26 kmpl.
Performance-wise, Verna gets a strong diesel that helps it pull strongly after 1900 rpms - turbo lag interferes before that - but once it crosses the 1900 mark it gets very active. The City, on the other hand manages the lag in a better way and is smooth to pull. The cabin noise is lesser in Verna than the City.
City’s drive is much more composed than that of Verna as it stays grounded and the weight transfer to the steering is just fine. And comparatively the suspension of Honda is on the stiffer side but that too inspires confidence. The road noise filters inside more in comparison to the Verna.
Inside of these two are in tandem with the time but Honda seems to have an edge as Verna’s cabin is the same as the old car. Honda’s infotainment system gets a better touchscreen with Sat Nav, it also gets sun/moon roof that is absent in Verna. Also, the interior space of City is far better than that of Verna, at the rear City can comfortably accommodate a tall person of over 6 ft height while in case of Verna it is a very tight fit. The boot compartment of Honda might be 510 litre over Verna’s 460 litres but the latter fits luggage more neatly.
On the price perspective both are priced very competitively, Honda City falls in a bracket of Rs. 7.5 to 11.8 lacs while Verna falls in Rs. 7.7 to 12.1 lacs (all prices ex-showroom delhi).
Verdict :
Honda City will be a better choice if your preference is to give equal luxury to every passenger as it is a better family car with more space and comfort. And if you are a person that usually drive alone and prefer performance over mileage and comfort you should go for Hyundai Verna.
