The talk will look at the situation of women in Mexico today in the contest of spiralling violence, the role of women in the Zapatista movement, and the relevance of the decision of the decision of the National Indigenous Congress to run an independent indigenous woman for the 2018 presidential elections
Liam Bradshaw was active in the 1980s in support groups for Chile and Nicaragua in Dublin, and for El Salvador and Guatemala in London. He has visited various countries in Latin America and been a member of LASC for more than 10 years. For the last six years, he has lived in Chiapas, Mexico, where he accompanies education processes in autonomous indigenous communities, and works as a translator for human rights defenders International Service for Peace.
Ana Hernández has worked extensively with women in Mexico.
