George and the Dragon may refer to:
Saint George (Greek: Γεώργιος Georgios; Latin: Georgius; AD 275–281 to 23 April 303), according to legend, was a soldier in the Roman army who later became venerated as a Christian martyr. His parents were Christians of Greek background; his father Gerontius was a Roman army official from Cappadocia and his mother Polychronia was a Christian from Lydda in the Roman province of Syria Palaestina (Palestine). Accounts differ regarding whether George was born in Cappadocia or Syria Palaestina, but agree that he was raised at least partly in Lydda. Saint George became an officer in the Roman army in the Guard of Diocletian, who ordered his death for failing to recant his Christian faith.
In hagiography, Saint George is one of the most venerated saints in the Catholic Church (Latin and Eastern), Anglican, East Syrian, and Miaphysite Churches. He is one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers and is regarded as one of the most prominent military saints, immortalized in the myth of Saint George and the Dragon killing in Beirut, Lebanon. His memorial, Saint George's Day, is traditionally celebrated on the Julian date of 23 April (currently the 6th of May according to the Gregorian Calendar). Many countries, cities, professions and organisations claim Saint George as their patron.
A dragon is a legendary creature, typically with serpentine or reptilian traits.
Dragon may also refer to:
The episode Saint George and the Dragon appended to the hagiography of Saint George was Eastern in origin, brought back with the Crusaders and retold with the courtly appurtenances belonging to the genre of Romance. The earliest known depictions of the motif are from tenth- or eleventh-century Cappadocia and eleventh-century Georgia; previously, in the iconography of Eastern Orthodoxy, George had been depicted as a soldier since at least the seventh century. The earliest known surviving narrative of the dragon episode is an eleventh-century Georgian text.
The dragon motif was first combined with the already standardised Passio Georgii in Vincent of Beauvais' encyclopedic Speculum Historiale, and then Jacobus de Voragine's Golden Legend (ca 1260) guaranteed its popularity in the later Middle Ages as a literary and pictorial subject. The legend gradually became part of the Christian traditions relating to Saint George and was used in many festivals thereafter.

Archival film footage combines with intriguing stories to reveal the history of Toronto's transportation system. It all started when Governor Simcoe built Yonge Street, a military road that opened the north to settlers. In the 1830s you could hire a cab or take a stage coach which in time led to horse-drawn urban omnibuses and then, with the advent of electricity, streetcars with wooden seats and coal stoves. When downtown Yonge intersections became a nightmare of horses, cabs, streetcars, pedestrians and omnibuses - the subway was built. ✦ PauL GreY ✦ "Where Music is a Way of Life". ☊ If Toto's musical advantage was that, since its members continued to play on many of the successful records made in L.A., its own music was popular almost by definition, its disadvantage was that it made little attempt to seek an individual musical signature -- a particular style, say, or a distinctive singer (Bobby Kimball was not it) who could make its records immediately identifiable. "Hold the Line" had been a big hit, but who did it? Boston? Foreigner? As a result, Toto was less well positioned than most to come off a big debut album with the follow-up, and Hydra was unusually dependent on its leadoff single, "99." Maybe it was a tribute to the female lead on the old Get Smart TV show, but many listeners didn't get a song with a chorus ...
The perennial Christmas play, as performed by Historic Interpretations. The version was dubbed "Ham and Cheese" as there were many children in the audience and we were directed to be as hammy and cheesy as we could be. It was a very fun time, even though the venue made it hard to hear some of the dialogue.
"The Magic Sword (also known as St. George and the Dragon, St. George and the Seven Curses (the film's original title),[1] and The Seven Curses of Lodac) is a 1962 live action fantasy film, mainly aimed at children, based loosely on the medieval legend of Saint George and the Dragon. The film appeared on a 1992 episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000. In a highly unusual admission, characters Joel Robinson and Tom Servo said the movie was "pretty good for a Bert I. Gordon film" during a theater segment (though Crow T. Robot seemed to disagree). The writers of the show continued the praise in their Amazing Colossal Episode Guide."
About the image: My wife and I bought this image of St. George and an image of St. Michael The Archangel (see previous video labeled The Warrior Saint Michael The Archangel) from an antique store in the middle of nowhere in the country of England. The antique dealer wrote this about the image, "these pictures, are special. We do not know the name of the artist but have speculated that it was probably a nun who had a talent in that direction. They date from around 1880 and were originally from St Mary’s Priory, a Benedictine convent in Fernham near Faringdon." What is interesting is around the same time this water painting was made, Pope Leo the XIII created this beautiful prayer, "O glorious Archangel St. Michael, Prince of the heavenly host, defend us in battle, and in the struggle which...
There once was an old man who loved power and glory
But in his long life he just had never won
So he had a dream, let us call it obsession
To stand in the middle, be admired by everyone
He saw his one chance when rumors were spreading
A dragon arrived in the outskirts of the town
He thought if someone whould challenge the beast
He would live forever even if he died by hunting it down
And drawing his longsword with it´s edges blazing
He rode to the lair to shed thick dragon blood
He daydreamed that he would return home as a hero
But his horse stumbled and he landed headlong in the mud
As he lay there sobbing the dragon came along
And saw the poor old man, oh, there had something to be done
He invited the man to his cave where they drank tea
And they became the best friends in the world of dragon and man
He wants to fight the dragon, he wants to kill the beast
