Without going as far as choosing Bowie and Zappa in great numbers, parents are increasingly choosing surnames names as given names for their baby boys. There's little doubting the star appeal of the surname name; it makes a name sound a little bit Hollywood, a little bit famous.

And with celebrities embracing the trend, it's little wonder every day parents have caught on. Singer Pink chose Jameson for her new baby son this year and Kourtney Kardashian was onto something when she chose Mason seven years ago. Model Devon Aoki chose Hunter and Nick Lachey has a son called Camden.

We discovered that the Australian top 100 and beyond, is littered with surname names for boys and we decided to look a little more closely at them. We made a list but haven't included surname names which have completely crossed over; names like Finn, Lincoln and Cameron.

Take a look through the list below - you can view by its popularity ranking, or click the 'name' column heading to get the names in alphabetical order.
