Leeds 
i/liːdz/ is a city in West Yorkshire, England. Historically in Yorkshire's West Riding, the history of Leeds can be traced to the 5th century when the name referred to a wooded area of the Kingdom of Elmet. The name has been applied to many administrative entities over the centuries. It changed from being the appellation of a small manorial borough in the 13th century, through several incarnations, to being the name attached to the present metropolitan borough. In the 17th and 18th centuries Leeds became a major centre for the production and trading of wool. Then, during the Industrial Revolution, Leeds developed into a major mill town; wool was the dominant industry but flax, engineering, iron foundries, printing, and other industries were important. From being a compact market town in the valley of the River Aire in the 16th century Leeds expanded and absorbed the surrounding villages to become a populous urban centre by the mid-20th century. The main built-up area sub-division has a population of 474,632 (2011), and the City of Leeds metropolitan borough of which it is a part which has an estimated population of 757,700 (2011).

Opera North
Opera North is an English opera company based in Leeds. The company's home theatre is the Leeds Grand Theatre, but it also presents regular seasons in several other cities, at the Theatre Royal, Nottingham, the Lowry Centre, Salford Quays and the Theatre Royal, Newcastle. It has also visited Sadler's Wells Theatre and the Barbican Centre in London and, less regularly, the Bradford Alhambra, the Lyceum Theatre in Sheffield, and other venues, including theatres in Belfast and Dublin and the Edinburgh Festival Theatre. The Company's orchestra, the Orchestra of Opera North, regularly performs and records in its own right. Operas are performed either in English or in the original language of the libretto, in the latter case usually with surtitles.
The major funders of Opera North includeArts Council England and, in Yorkshire, Leeds City Council, West Yorkshire Grants, North Yorkshire County Council, and East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

A city centre (or city center) is the commercial, cultural and often the historical, political and geographic heart of a city.
Overview and related concepts
The city centre is the (often historical) area of a city where commerce, entertainment, shopping and political power are concentrated. The term is commonly used in many English-speaking countries and has direct equivalents in many other languages. However, notably, in the United States, the term "downtown" is commonly used to denote a city centre, and in Canada the terms "city centre" and "downtown" are used interchangeably. In Australia, the term "Central Business District" is widely used to refer to the city centre, but usage of the term "City Centre" is increasing, especially in Melbourne.
In many cities, the Central Business District (CBD) is within the city centre, but the concept "city centre" differs from the CBD. The concept of the "CBD" revolves solely around economic and financial power, but the "city centre" also includes historical, political and cultural factors. A clear example is Paris: La Défense is the central business district of Paris, but it is not the city centre. In most larger and/or older cities, the CBD and the city centre will only partially overlap, if at all.

Leeds Cathedral
Commonly known as Saint Anne's Cathedral, is the Roman Catholic Cathedral of the Diocese of Leeds, and is the seat of the Bishop of Leeds. The original cathedral was located in St. Anne's Church.
RHS Garden Harlow Carr
The Royal Horticultural Society's garden Harlow Carr is one of four public gardens run by the Society. Located on the western edge of Harrogate. Features: Winter Walk, Kitchen Garden, Gardens through Time, Woodland, Arboretum.
Henry Moore Foundation
A registered charity in England, established for education and promotion of the fine arts — in particular, to advance understanding of the works of Henry Moore. The charity was set up with a gift from the artist in 1977.
Meanwood Beck
A stream in West Yorkshire, which flows through Adel, Meanwood and Sheepscar into the River Aire. Was previously a source of water for the village of Headingley and two of its earliest bridges led straight to it.
Spofforth Castle
Was a fortified manor house, ruined during the English Civil War and now run by English Heritage as a tourist attraction. Was built by Henry de Percy in the early 14th century.

Meanwood Beck
A stream in West Yorkshire, which flows through Adel, Meanwood and Sheepscar into the River Aire. Was previously a source of water for the village of Headingley and two of its earliest bridges led straight to it.
Spofforth Castle
Was a fortified manor house, ruined during the English Civil War and now run by English Heritage as a tourist attraction. Was built by Henry de Percy in the early 14th century.

SCREENED & NOMINATED for 'Best Documentary' at BFI Future Film Festival 2013
From a young age my best friend Nuno has never been bound by the conventions of a home. At 8 his mother brought him and his sister to England from Portuguese island Madeira. After moving around the country as a child they settled in Bournemouth but to Nuno’s dismay he was made homeless again aged 16 by his stepfather. Now Nuno embraces his homelessness and although he has settled in Leeds amongst the filmmaking community he uses his experiences to take him all over the world blowing bubbles to fund his travels.
Nuno and I first met 6 years ago in Bournemouth working on local youth filmmaking initiative: Pier Pressure. Although we have grown and moved in and out of each other’s lives over these years, we have found a unity in our passion to make film. Luckily, both attending the Northern Film School we have found many people around us who share this dream and who have helped us to make this film.
Originally this was shot as an entry for the WorldNomads Travel Scholarship to Rio de Janeiro. Nuno and I have stirred each other’s passions also for travelling and whilst he busked around East Europe this summer, I worked in Peru as a guide for volunteers. Intending to apply as a camera/presenter team, I wanted to prove to Nuno that he is just as confident carrying a story on-screen as off-screen so that I wouldn’t be forced on-camera and so that we could enjoy the experience and utilise his Portuguese (and my Spanish-Portuguese) to give the piece that much more charm.

The Who live at Leeds (half-speed mastered 3LP 2016 reissue - FULL CONCERT)
Now I've wanted to share this terrific live rock album that made me extremely happy since I never owned it before on vinyl. And something that made me particularly happy is the price for which I could snag it thanks to a short-time pre-order deal on Amazon UK. The total cost was £10.83 plus £3.58 shipping from the UK to Colombia. That's undoubtedly the deal (steal) of 2016. And to me it sounds terrific. Plus being the complete February 14 1970 gig at the University of Leeds' Refectory, I can tell I can now die a happy man. But I'm not going to lie: I still want an original issue of the album just because of the inserts, which are absent in this new version. I remember holding an original copy of this album when i was a young boy, and I was simply fascinated by its presentation. Everything...

Everything from the single LP in a white paper jacket to the big windmilling-Townshend poster were pure beauty to me. My only gripe about it was (and still is) its length. Why did they have to release such an abbreviated version of the concert? I was sure it didn't last just 37 minutes.Those of us who weren't present there only got 1/3 of the whole experience. No "Tommy"! They could release it at least as a two-LP set. But anyway, that problem has been amply solved with the 3LP version of the album. Now, the inserts... I'm working on it.

- It was the only live album that was released while the group were still actively recording and performing with their best known line-up of Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend, John Entwistle and Keith Moon. Initially released in May 1970. Since its initial reception, Live at Leeds has been cited by several music critics as the best live rock recording of all time!
- By the end of the 1960s, particularly after releasing Tommy in May 1969, The Who had become cited by many as one of the best live rock acts in the world. According to biographer Chris Charlesworth, "a sixth sense seemed to take over", leading them to "a kind of rock nirvana that most bands can only dream about".
