David Carradine (born John Arthur Carradine; December 8, 1936 – June 3, 2009) was an American actor and martial artist, best known for his leading role as a Shaolin peace-loving monk, Kwai Chang Caine, in the 1970s television series Kung Fu. He was a member of a productive acting family that began with his father, John Carradine. His acting career, which included major and minor roles on stage, television and cinema, spanned over four decades. A prolific "B" movie actor, he appeared in more than 100 feature films and was nominated four times for a Golden Globe Award. The last nomination was for his title role in Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill.
Films that featured Carradine continued to be released after his death. These posthumous credits were from a variety of genres including horror, action, western, martial arts, drama, science fiction and documentary. In addition to his acting career, Carradine was also a musician and pursued a directing career. Influenced by his most popular acting role, he studied martial arts. The son of a frequently married actor, he had an unstable childhood. This instability would continue throughout his life as he himself was married five times. He was also frequently arrested and prosecuted for a variety of offenses which often involved substance abuse. He died on June 3, 2009, from asphyxiation in a hotel room in Bangkok, Thailand; the main report is that it was a sex-related erotic asphyxiation, however, there has been a controversy over this and some have said he may have been murdered.

Americana is a 1983 American drama film starring, produced, edited and directed by David Carradine. The screenplay and story, written by Richard Carr, was based on a portion of the 1947 novel, The Perfect Round, by Henry Morton Robinson. A haunting film that was a personal project for David Carradine playing a troubled Vietnam veteran who drifts into a quiet town in rural Kansas, befriending a pretty flower-child and coming upon a dilapidated carousel on the city's outskirts. Carradine's obsession with the merry-go-round is steeped in the hypothetical, but we can appreciate his mysterious drive, as can Barbara Hershey as his girl (she was Carradine's real-life girl when much of the film was shot in 1973). Filming began in 1973 and continued intermittently over the years, owing to a comb...

This is another part of an hour-long interview with the late actor, David Carradine, in 1989. He was a really great guy; a true gentleman. (For example, he did the interview despite the fact that the show had a tiny, non-commercial audience.) He was in Vancouver shooting Bird on a Wire, along with Mel Gibson, Goldie Hawn and bill Duke. Sorry about the poor quality, but this was all volunteer-run by amateurs, and this is a fairly poor VHS dub on top of all that. It was one of many interviews done by this cable-access TV show shot in Vancouver in 1988-89 called Conversation. Clearly, he was a good, kind man. He was playing Tennessee Waltz on the hotel piano when he was picked up for this interview. He kept the interviewer waiting and smoked on the set (verboten!) but it was all ...
