Spencer, aged 55, founded the blog Jihad Watch and appears frequently on Fox News. Spencer has also authored two New York Times bestsellers on the topic. According to an email to Breitbart from Grímur Grímsson, the detective chief superintendent who is working the Robert Spencer poison case: “Reykjavík Metropolitan police are investigating a case where [Spencer] …. was poisoned.” Grímsson said that poison attacks are rare in Iceland, whose economy benefits substantially from tourism from the U.S. A doctor’s report on May 12 showed that Spencer was poisoned with a combination of amphetamines and the drug MDMA. Spencer keeps his home address secret because of death threats by Islamic groups, angered by his best-selling books which describe the Koran as violent and intolerant. Spencer correctly predicted that a 2015 exhibition of anti-Islam cartoons would be attacked because orthodox Islam believes that critics of Islam should be killed. Fortunately, security guards were hired for the Garland, Texas event organized by Pamela Geller, and when two armed jihadis attacked the event, they were quickly dealt with. Spencer lamented his treatment by the Islandic press. His lecture on May 11 was attended by 500 Icelanders – a very large crowd for Iceland here I have spoken on the topic of monetary reform many times. The Icelandic press only quoted the 50 protesters outside the lecture hall. They never bothered to provide a single quote from Spencer’s talk. Later, at a post-event celebration, Spencer says that his drink was spiked by leftist activists who had recognized him. He quickly left the event for his hotel. “About fifteen minutes later, when I got back in my hotel room, I began to feel numbness in my face, hands, and feet. I began trembling and vomiting. My heart was racing dangerously. I spent the night in a Reykjavik hospital.” Fortunately, urine samples were taken and Spencer was shown to have levels of amphetamines and MDMA in his system.
