Ivor Barnard (13 June 1887 – 30 June 1953) was an English stage, radio and film actor. He was an original member of the Birmingham Repertory Theatre, where he was a notable Shylock and Caliban. He was the original Water Rat in the first London production of A. A. Milne's "Toad of Toad Hall". In 1929 he appeared on stage as Blanquet, in "Bird in Hand" at the Morosco Theatre in New York, after a successful run in the London's West End (Laurence Olivier was the young juvenile). The part had been specially written for him by John Drinkwater.
He appeared in 84 films between 1921 and 1953. He appeared in the Alfred Hitchcock film The 39 Steps in 1935. In 1943, he played the stationmaster in the Ealing war film Undercover. He also appeared as Wemmick in David Lean's Great Expectations (1946), and as the Chairman of the Workhouse, in Lean's film Oliver Twist (1948). One of his last film appearances was as the murderer Major Jack Ross in John Huston's Beat the Devil (1953) with Humphrey Bogart and Peter Lorre.
Humphrey DeForest Bogart (/ˈboʊɡɑːrt/; December 25, 1899 – January 14, 1957) was an American screen actor whose performances in iconic 1940s films noir such as The Maltese Falcon, Casablanca, and The Big Sleep earned him the legacy of cultural icon.
Bogart began acting in 1921 after a hitch in the U.S. Navy in World War I and little success in various jobs in finance and the production side of the theater. Gradually he became a regular in Broadway shows in the 1920s and 1930s. When the stock market crash of 1929 reduced the demand for plays, Bogart turned to film. His first great success was as Duke Mantee in The Petrified Forest (1936), and this led to a period of typecasting as a gangster with films such as Angels with Dirty Faces (1938) and B-movies like The Return of Doctor X (1939).
Bogart's breakthrough as a leading man came in 1941 with High Sierra and The Maltese Falcon. The next year, his performance in Casablanca (1943; Oscar nomination) raised him to the peak of his profession and, at the same time, cemented his trademark film persona, that of the hard-boiled cynic who ultimately shows his noble side. Other successes followed, including To Have and Have Not (1944), The Big Sleep (1946), Dark Passage (1947), and Key Largo (1948), all four with his wife Lauren Bacall; The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948); In a Lonely Place (1950); The African Queen (1951; Oscar winner); Sabrina (1954); and The Caine Mutiny (1954; Oscar nomination). His last film was The Harder They Fall (1956).

Beat The Devil ~~~ Part 1 Beat the Devil is a 1953 film directed by John Huston. It was co-authored by Huston and Truman Capote, and loosely based upon a novel of the same name by British journalist and critic Claud Cockburn, writing under the pseudonym James Helvick. It was intended by Huston as a tongue-in-cheek spoof of his earlier masterpiece, The Maltese Falcon, and of films of its genre. A quartet of international crooks -- Peterson, O'Hara, Ross and Ravello -- is stranded in Italy while their steamer is being repaired. With them are the Dannreuthers. The six are headed for Africa, presumably to sell vacuum cleaners but actually to buy land supposedly loaded with uranium. They are joined by others who apparently have similar designs. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beat_the_Devil...
Beat The Devil (1953) ~~~ Part 4 O'HARA (Peter Lorre): "It's become necessary to redistribute the stock in our company." RAVELLO (Marco Tulli): "Stock! Stock!? What? Who needs the stock now?!... We can't leave with Dannreuther's friend, not without Dannreuther... all the effort, the money! Everything went over the cliff, with 'that' car..." O'HARA: "Ravello, you forget the English are very sentimental people. I tell you there is nothing that Billy's friend will not do for his widow and, in black (kisses lips), she's a 'very' touching figure..." CHELM (Edward Underdown): "Poor Maria, you really have had a wretched time." MARIA (Gina Lollobrigida): "You are, very understanding." CHELM: "If only there, was something I could do?" MARIA: "Now, if you could brin...

Edited version with legible slides...enjoy. btw, expand my first comment below for summary of errata / slight corrections. Also a couple of other slips I noticed since posting: * I said Mexico went from effectively zero obesity to 70%, it was effectively zero obesity to a total of 70% Overweight and Obese I believe. * I also referred to small dense pattern B LDL as being the pathogenic component, but didn't clarify that the latest science suggests that it is the presence of these that indicates other issues (e.g. higher number of ApoB particles, more oxidative stress etc) There's probably a few more, but the message doesn't change....
Cancer has been a leading cause of death in the Western world for some time now, but what is the best nutritional regime to address it? Andrew Scarborough was faced with massive seizures and migraines, followed by a belated diagnosis of Grade III Anaplastic Astrocytoma. This is a most serious form of brain cancer, invariably fatal. He researched extensively and learned that chemotherapy would do little or nothing for the genetic form of his disease. His oncologist admitted as much when confronted with the data. Thus Andrew was facing into a chemical shotgunning that would rack his body, whilst offering no real hope of remission. But Andrew was determined not to accept this inevitability; he was going to leverage his research from a Masters in Nutrition, and his ability to decode published...

Neal Barnard MD discusses the science behind food addictions. Willpower is not to blame: chocolate, cheese, meat, and sugar release opiate-like substances. Dr. Barnard also discusses how industry, aided by government, exploits these natural cravings, pushing us to eat more and more unhealthy foods. A plant-based (vegan) diet is the solution to avoid many of these problems. Neal Barnard is the founder of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM).
