Sarah Jessica Parker has gone for the chop with an ice-blonde bob

Sarah Jessica Parker's perfectly balayaged long and flowing waves are gone. Instead the actress and artist formally known as Carrie Bradshaw was spotted filming in New York for her movie Unfollow the Rules with a new ice-blonde bob hairstyle. Total #bobgoals.

We asked Australian hair guru Kevin Murphy to give us a lowdown on the new 'do.

"Everyone holds on to their hair these days," says Murphy. "I don't think we have seen a short-hair revival since the 1980s."

That is, until now.

Welcome to July 2017, and the official return of the bob. "The thing about this new bob is that it's all about the textured top and sides combined with a blunt edge. I think you have got a lot of girls who have had the lob and now they are looking for something a little different. What is happening now is that hair is taking its direction from the '60s with the new blunt edge.

"I look at Sarah Jessica Parker and this new cut really suits her. It's not so much about the length, but about the blunt edge that makes it look really chic at the moment because she is wearing her hair in a really casual way. The width of her hair is also very chic."

According to Murphy, "It was time for her to cut it. Also the colour (block blonde) is really good on her; it looks fresh and mod. Every time I turn around another celebrity has gone blonde and blonder. Katy Perry, who has a haircut every three days, has also gone blonde."

The new textured hair takes its inspiration from the runway. The look was spotted at Alexander Wang last season where the hair was perfectly undone.

The beauty of the bob for Murphy is that, "A bob still feels long even though it is short ... [it's] quite a safe alternative."

"Today, nobody wants to blow dry their hair," says Murphy. "It used to be all about the great blow dry, whereas now it is about great natural-looking texture. This has come straight from the runway."

Murphy says, "No one wants done hair. Everyone wants fresh hair."

We're calling that a lucky break!

The undone bob rules

  • Leave-in product is king because of the texture. You can't really create this type of look without it.
  • The key is not to weigh your hair down though. Roughly 80 per cent of women have fine hair so weightless products are the go.
  • Our fresh new find is Kevin Murphy Bedroom Hair with curl enhancer to create a subtle new wave. Use it on dry hair and scrunch it in to give a beachy finish. "No styling required, just come as you are," says Murphy.
  • "The new relaxed feel is all about air drying as there is a big move away from hot tools," Murphy says.
