Sportacus

Sportacus is a fictional character from the children's television show LazyTown. His name is a portmanteau of the ancient figure Spartacus and the word sport, which represents his athleticism. Måns är bästSportacus humbly describes himself as a "slightly above-average hero", though his friends have a higher opinion of him, calling him a "superhero".

In the television show, the role of Sportacus is played by Magnús Scheving, founder and creator of the LazyTown franchise.

Sportacus encourages the children of LazyTown to eat fruits and vegetables (which he calls "sports candy") and play outside instead of sitting around indoors. He wants to make sure LazyTown is happy, and knows that its residents have to be healthy and fit if they want to be happy. He is opposed by the sinister (yet perhaps equally energetic) Robbie Rotten, who seeks to return LazyTown to its former state: a lazy town. Sportacus is so engaged in his life of physical activity that he does parkour just to get from place to place—even doing acrobatic flips just to get from one side of his kitchen table to the other—and the children have to instruct him on how to relax.

LazyTown

LazyTown (Icelandic: Latibær) is an Icelandic educational musical children's television program with a cast and crew from Iceland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. It was created by Magnús Scheving, a gymnastics champion and CEO of LazyTown Entertainment, who also stars in the show. Originally performed in English, the show has been dubbed into more than a dozen languages (including Icelandic) and aired in over 100 countries.

Fifty-three episodes were produced from 2004 to 2007, for the first and second seasons. It originally aired on Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. in the United States and CBeebies in the UK. Turner Broadcasting System Europe acquired LazyTown Entertainment in 2011 and commissioned a third season consisting of 13 episodes, which premiered on 6 April 2013 in the United Kingdom on Cartoonito. A fourth season, also consisting of 13 episodes, premiered in the UK in 2014.

It has generated spin-off projects including stage productions and a television program for younger children called LazyTown Extra.

Robbie Rotten

Robbie Rotten is a fictional character from the children's television show LazyTown. As the antagonist of the series, he tries to get the other characters to eat junk food and is forever trying to banish Sportacus from LazyTown. He wants to make sure LazyTown stays lazy, as it was before Sportacus came to the rescue. He is known to be a master of disguise.

Robbie creates all sorts of plans to promote physical inactivity in LazyTown, and sometimes comes very close to succeeding, but Sportacus always manages to save the day with the help of Stephanie and her friends. The amount of effort that this champion of inactivity puts into his plots is ironically huge; he could easily be considered one of the most active people in LazyTown. In the television show, Robbie Rotten is played by Stefán Karl Stefánsson.

Town

A town is a human settlement larger than a village but smaller than a city. The size definition for what constitutes a "town" varies considerably in different parts of the world.

Origin and use

The word town shares an origin with the German word Stadt, the Dutch word tuin, and the Old Norse tun. The German word Zaun comes closest to the original meaning of the word: a fence of any material. An early borrowing from Celtic *dunom (cf. Old Irish dun, Welsh din "fortress, fortified place, camp," dinas "city;"

In English and Dutch, the meaning of the word took on the sense of the space which these fences enclosed. In England, a town was a small community that could not afford or was not allowed to build walls or other larger fortifications, and built a palisade or stockade instead. In the Netherlands, this space was a garden, more specifically those of the wealthy, which had a high fence or a wall around them (like the garden of palace Het Loo in Apeldoorn, which was the example for the privy garden of William and Mary at Hampton Court). In Old Norse tun means a (grassy) place between farmhouses, and is still used in a similar meaning in modern Norwegian.
