Medicine (British English i/ˈmɛdsᵻn/; American English i/ˈmɛdᵻsᵻn/) is the science and practice of the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. The word medicine is derived from Latin medicus, meaning "a physician". Medicine encompasses a variety of health care practices evolved to maintain and restore health by the prevention and treatment of illness.
Contemporary medicine applies biomedical sciences, biomedical research, genetics, and medical technology to diagnose, treat, and prevent injury and disease, typically through pharmaceuticals or surgery, but also through therapies as diverse as psychotherapy, external splints and traction, medical devices, biologics, and ionizing radiation, amongst others.
Medicine has existed for thousands of years, during most of which it was an art (an area of skill and knowledge) frequently having connections to the religious and philosophical beliefs of local culture. For example, a medicine man would apply herbs and say prayers for healing, or an ancient philosopher and physician would apply bloodletting according to the theories of humorism. In recent centuries, since the advent of science, most medicine has become a combination of art and science (both basic and applied, under the umbrella of medical science). While stitching technique for sutures is an art learned through practice, the knowledge of what happens at the cellular and molecular level in the tissues being stitched arises through science.
The Institute of Medical Sciences may refer to one of several organisations:
Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences Medical College (Urdu: شیرِ کشمیر انسٹیچیوٹ آف میڈیکل سائنسز ), also abbreviated SKIMS, is a very rapidly growing medical college of Jammu and Kashmir in Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir.
It is one of the three government-run medical colleges of state besides Government Medical College Jammu and Government Medical College Srinagar. It is located in the outskirts of Srinagar on the Srinagar-Baramulla highway. Initially the college was privately managed by Muslim medical trust. In those days it was named as Jehlum Valley College of Medical Sciences. The state government took over the college in 1998. The college then became an under-graduate medical college of the SKIMS (deemed university) Soura and was named as SKIMS MC. The college used to admit 50 students every year but from the year 2013 MCI has granted an approval for admitting 100 students a year. The admission in college is made through JK Common Entrance Test held by BOPEE every year. The college has about 50 Acres of land. The college campus has a number of buildings and the main one is the star-building. The boys hostel is within college campus. Girls hostels are two in number; one is within college campus while other is at Miskeen Bagh Srinagar. The college has a number of well-furnished buses which take day-scholars and employees to their respective destinations. The clinical posting of students is held at associated hospital of the college as well as at SKIMS Soura. The total admissions in this College including the erstwhile JVC are 1146 students out of which 640 students successfully qualified. However, as SKIMS Medical College 615 students have been admitted since its takeover by the Government. 309 students have passed out and at present 306 students are studying in this college including the 50 students admitted this year through J&K Board of Professional Entrance Examinations.
A state legislature is a legislative branch or body of a political subdivision in a federal system.
The following legislatures exist in the following political subdivisions:
A chief minister is the elected head of government of a sub-national (e.g., constituent federal) entity. Examples include: a state (and sometimes a union territory) in India; a territory of Australia; provinces of Sri Lanka or Pakistan; Philippine autonomous regions; or a British Overseas Territory that has attained self-governance. It is also used as the English version of the title given to the heads of governments of the Malay states without a monarchy.
The title is also used in the Crown dependencies of the Isle of Man (since 1986), in Guernsey (since 2004), and in Jersey (since 2005).
In Malaysia, it is used to refer to the heads of government, called in the Malay language Ketua Menteri (literally chief minister), of the Malaysian states without a sultan, i.e., Malacca, Penang, Sabah and Sarawak – while the Malay language term Menteri Besar (literally great minister), is used in other states with a monarch.
By analogy, the term is often applied to various other high ministerial offices, e.g., those in a princely state before or during the British raj, or to chancellors of the Chinese states.

The heavy infestation of wards by insects including *cockraches*is alarming. Although we tried to bring to the attention of those incharge but that changed nothing. One gets scared for the loved ones who are unfortunate to be admitted to this unhygienic hospital. While our patient was admitted five of us contracted the same infection and were bedridden for 10 days or so. More than a month on I still have upset GI. I hope this video will bring some attention to the pathetic hygienic conditions at out only super-speciality hospital in Kashmir which is so vital for our wellbeing. Bilal
