Plays of the Week

Stars hold their nerve, six sixes in an over and fish and athletes both get aerial, these are the plays of the week.

Wilkshire's move to Sydney presents him his first chance to play in Australia having played in Europe since 1998.

The veteran spent the majority of his career in England, Russia and The Netherlands and  ss part of two World Cup campaigns for Australia; 2006 and 2010.

"I've spent a lot of years playing my football outside of Australia, and like many Australians playing overseas who have never played in the A-League, I have always wanted to come back at some point and experience the competition. I'm aware, and impressed by, the standard of the league from what I've seen from abroad, so I take nothing for granted," he said

"A big factor in my decision to join Sydney FC amid other interest, is my relationship with Arnie. He was part of the coaching staff when I began my Socceroos career and he has done a great job with Sydney FC, so I'm really looking forward to working with him again. I also have Socceroo friends in the squad in Dave Carney, Alex Brosque, Josh Brillante and Alex Wilkinson".

Meanwhile, Central Coast Mariners continued their recruitment for next season with the signing of Spanish striker Asdrubal Padron. The 26-year-old spent the majority of his career with Las Palmas, making three appearances in La Liga last season while playing regularly in the Segunda previously.

Asdrubal is a versatile striker who has played across all positions in the forward line but Mariners coach Paul Okon will likely use him as a central option as a replacement for Irish striker, Roy O'Donovan.

"He is 26-years-old which is still quite young but he has La Liga experience, his pedigree is good and he has played in some very good teams – the way he scores goals has really impressed us and it fits into the way we play," Okon said.

"His work ethic is very good, everyone that we spoke to when we were doing our research all spoke very highly of him as a top professional. In the end, it wasn't a difficult choice but we wanted to make sure we took our time to be 100 per cent certain."
