A network operations center (NOC, pronounced like the word knock), also known as a "network management center", is one or more locations from which network monitoring and control, or network management, is exercised over a computer, telecommunication or satellite network.
Early versions of NOCs have been around since the 1960s. A Network Control Center was opened in New York by AT&T in 1962 that used status boards to display switch and route information, in real-time, from AT&T's most important toll switches. AT&T later replaced their Network Control Center with a NOC in 1977 in Bedminster, New Jersey.
NOCs are implemented by business organizations, public utilities, universities, and government agencies that oversee complex networking environments that require high availability. NOC personnel are responsible for monitoring one or many networks for certain conditions that may require special attention to avoid degraded service. Organizations may operate more than one NOC, either to manage different networks or to provide geographic redundancy in the event of one site becoming unavailable.
Networking and networking may refer to:
Global Television Network (more commonly called Global, or occasionally Global TV) is a privately owned Canadian English language broadcast television network that is owned by the Shaw Media division of Shaw Communications. It is currently Canada's second most-watched broadcast television network after CTV, and has twelve owned-and-operated stations throughout the country.
Global has its origins in a regional television station of the same name, serving Southern Ontario, which launched in 1974. The Ontario station was soon purchased by the now-defunct CanWest Global Communications, and that company gradually expanded its national reach in the subsequent decades. The national entity was known as the CanWest Global System until adopting the Ontario station's branding in 1997.
The network has its origins in NTV, a new network first proposed in 1966 by Hamilton media proprietor Ken Soble, the owner of independent station CHCH-TV through his Niagara Television company. Financially backed by Power Corporation of Canada, Soble submitted a brief to the Board of Broadcast Governors in 1966 proposing a national satellite-fed network. Under the plan, Soble's company would launch Canada's first broadcast satellite, and would use it to relay the programming of CHCH to 96 new transmitters across Canada. Soble died in December of that year; his widow Frances took over as president of Niagara Television, while former CTV executive Michael Hind-Smith and Niagara Television vice-president Al Bruner handled the network application. Soble had originally formulated the plan after failing in a bid to acquire CTV.

One of the coolest features at Interop is the Network Operations Center or NOC, the world's largest temporary network that runs all the network operations for the show. It's a completely voluntary testing and education environment that many want to join because it's purposely loaded with the latest and greatest equipment. Since the NOC has got so much cool equipment and it's under such an intense testing environment, I always make a point of getting a tour of the NOC whenever I'm at Interop. This year I got a tour from Brian Chee of University of Hawaii SOEST (@adventlab) and also a short introduction from Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ (@padresj) of the TheTechStop.net. Chee took me around the NOC, the testing equipment, and one of the racks on the show floor. He talks about looking for problem...

In this session Jaidev will demonstrate how they implemented a BizTalk application monitoring solution using Azure cloud based Power BI and multiple on premise data sources. The goal was to quickly build an easy to use monitoring solution for the Network Operations Center team (that didn’t know BizTalk) but also provide more visibility into business processes so that Production support staff (who knew BizTalk) could use this as an additional tool to track and debug performance issues. The Power BI dashboard was also used to provide daily reports to business and IT so they could see the KPIs and the value provided by BizTalk that was being used as an enterprise service bus for processing claims, billing, and policies.
Splunk for Operational Efficiency is designed as an introduction to Splunk, tailored for personnel staffing a network operations center. Emphasis is placed on investigation and discovery through demos and hands-on labs culminating in a customized situational dashboard. Basic Splunk functionality and architecture are covered in the material so previous experience with Splunk is not required. Splunk Bootcamps are held every Wednesday from 11 a.m - 1 p.m. MDT. We recommend logging in a few minutes early as class materials are provided for download in this LIVE hands-on webinar. Looking for additional Splunk Bootcamp sessions? Government and private sector critical infrastructure operators face huge challenges in protecting their networks from cyber-attacks because of the attacker’s asymmetric time advantage to attack versus the defender’s time to detect and respond. While attackers use tools to automate the attack process, most network operations centers rely heavily on manual cyber defense operations to detect and respond to those attacks. Additionally, ad hoc information sharing confined to small communities does not prevent attackers from re-using tools and techniques across multiple targets. Moderator: Ms. Wende C.
