Briggs to be part of the writing team on Matt Groening's new Netflix series
Aussie rapper and TV star Adam Briggs has revealed he's part of the writing team on Disenchantment, the upcoming Netflix series from Simpsons and Futurama creator Matt Groening.
Briggs, one half of the acclaimed hip-hop project AB Original, made the announcement on social media, sharing a picture of himself with Groening, Simpsons writer and producer Josh Weinsten, and other members of the show's writing crew.
"Being part of the Disenchantment world has been literally a dream come true," he wrote.
"Anyone who knows me knows what The Simpsons and Futurama mean in my world. Glad I can finally share it with you all."
The news brought quick congratulations from industry friends and fans, including comedians Julia Zemiro and Cal Wilson, rappers Urthboy and L-Fresh The Lion, and Broadway export Eddie Perfect.
The Indigenous rapper, who proudly sports tattoos representing Shepparton's Yorta Yorta people, is no stranger to TV cameras and writing rooms.
He's honed his comedy chops as a writer and cast member on ABC's sketch show Black Comedy, and is also a regular on Charlie Pickering's The Weekly.
Groening's new animated show was announced by Netflix on Wednesday.
The adult-aimed series, set in a medieval kingdom called Dreamland, follows a boozy princess – voiced by Broad City's Abbi Jacobson – as she navigates "ogres, sprites, harpies, imps, trolls, walruses and lots of human trolls," a press release detailed.
Groening said the show will focus on "life and death, love and sex, and how to keep laughing in a world full of suffering idiots, despite what the elders and wizards and other jerks tell you."
It will also feature voice work from comedians Eric Andre and Nat Faxon, Mighty Boosh stars Noel Fielding and Rich Fulcher, and Simpsons and Futurama veterans John DiMaggio, Maurice LaMarche and Tress MacNeille.
A 20-episode season, set to air ten episodes at a time, will debut on Netflix in 2018.
