In this video, I will show you in layman's terms how a solar panel system works and how to set one up in 2 different types of systems. This video is intended for beginners so obviously there is a lot more involved than I am explaining but this covers the basics to get started.
I bought that 10 watt solar panel from Solar Blvd (http://www.solarblvd.com/Solar-Panels-&-Systems-12-Volt-Solar-Panels/c1_269/index.html). I got the charge controller cheap from Amazon (there are numerous brands and knock-offs). I also got the battery from Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/ExpertPower%C2%AE-Rechargeable-Sealed-Battery-BLMFM12_7/dp/B003S1RQ2S/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid;=1415546997&sr;=8-2&keywords;=12v+sealed+battery). Everything in that video could cost between $70 and $150 depending on the products you buy and how good they are. I prefer cheap stuff for experiments so if I damage them I am not going to be too upset.

This video only covers off grid systems so if you are considering a grid tied system you will need to consider other costs such as professional installation, grid tie inverter(s), and inspections/fees to your utility company.

shows how to hook up solar panels (with a battery bank). simple instructions. home solar power station. very easy to put together. all you need is 1 or more batteries, an inverter, charge controller and a solar panel or panels. the following is for a 12 volt system. use one 'deep cycle' battery for every 2 to 6 amps your panels generate. (batteries like to be charged at this rate). a 12 volt 1 amp panel generates about 15 watts. you can use any solar panels. if you can't get the smaller panels then buy one larger one. (Kyocera sells an inexpensive 7-8 amp solar panel (135 watter)). that would go perfect with 2 deep cycle batteries. the six panels in the video are from harbor freight tools. i bought 2 three panel sets. they sell the panels in sets of three or individually. coleman sells similar panels. the batteries are from walmart. they are 'deep cycle' batteries. the charge controller is from fry's electronics. the inverter is from harbor freight tools. this system will provide all the 'free' power you will need to run tons of things around your house. i've posted 6 videos showing all sorts of things running on this system (computers, tvs, stereos, lights, power tools, appliances, and more). all can be found on my youtube channel homepage. great little system to start with. try 'powering up' one room in your house. you now have a solar assisted house. as one example; this could easily run a light, laptop computer, fan and small tv for several hours every day. also great in an emergency, power outage, remote and rural off-grid living.

Solar panel
Solar panel refers to a panel designed to absorb the sun's rays as a source of energy for generating electricity or heating.
A photovoltaic (in short PV) module is a packaged, connected assembly of typically 6×10 solar cells. Solar Photovoltaic panels constitute the solar array of a photovoltaic system that generates and supplies solar electricity in commercial and residential applications. Each module is rated by its DC output power under standard test conditions, and typically ranges from 100 to 365 watts. The efficiency of a module determines the area of a module given the same rated output – an 8% efficient 230 watt module will have twice the area of a 16% efficient 230 watt module. There are a few solar panels available that are exceeding 19% efficiency. A single solar module can produce only a limited amount of power; most installations contain multiple modules. A photovoltaic system typically includes a panel or an array of solar modules, a solar inverter, and sometimes a battery and/or solar tracker and interconnection wiring.

In this video, I will show you in layman's terms how a solar panel system works and how to set one up in 2 different types of systems. This video is intended for beginners so obviously there is a lot more involved than I am explaining but this covers the basics to get started.
I bought that 10 watt solar panel from Solar Blvd (http://www.solarblvd.com/Solar-Panels-&-Systems-12-Volt-Solar-Panels/c1_269/index.html). I got the charge controller cheap from Amazon (there are numerous brands and knock-offs). I also got the battery from Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/ExpertPower%C2%AE-Rechargeable-Sealed-Battery-BLMFM12_7/dp/B003S1RQ2S/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid;=1415546997&sr;=8-2&keywords;=12v+sealed+battery). Everything in that video could cost between $70 and $150 depending on the products you buy and how good they are. I prefer cheap stuff for experiments so if I damage them I am not going to be too upset.

(batteries like to be charged at this rate). a 12 volt 1 amp panel generates about 15 watts. you can use any solar panels. if you can't get the smaller panels then buy one larger one. (Kyocera sells an inexpensive 7-8 amp solar panel (135 watter)). that would go perfect with 2 deep cycle batteries. the six panels in the video are from harbor freight tools. i bought 2 three panel sets. they sell the panels in sets of three or individually. coleman sells similar panels. the batteries are from walmart. they are 'deep cycle' batteries. the charge controller is from fry's electronics. the inverter is from harbor freight tools. this system will provide all the 'free' power you will need to run tons of things around your house. i've posted 6 videos showing all sorts of things running on this system (computers, tvs, stereos, lights, power tools, appliances, and more). all can be found on my youtube channel homepage. great little system to start with. try 'powering up' one room in your house. you now have a solar assisted house. as one example; this could easily run a light, laptop computer, fan and small tv for several hours every day. also great in an emergency, power outage, remote and rural off-grid living.

In this video, I will show you in layman's terms how a solar panel system works and how to set one up in 2 different types of systems. This video is intended for beginners so obviously there is a lot more involved than I am explaining but this covers the basics to get started.
I bought that 10 watt solar panel from Solar Blvd (http://www.solarblvd.com/Solar-Panels-&-Systems-12-Volt-Solar-Panels/c1_269/index.html). I got the charge controller cheap from Amazon (there are numerous brands and knock-offs). I also got the battery from Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/ExpertPower%C2%AE-Rechargeable-Sealed-Battery-BLMFM12_7/dp/B003S1RQ2S/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid;=1415546997&sr;=8-2&keywords;=12v+sealed+battery). Everything in that video could cost between $70 and $150 depending on the products you buy and how good they are. I prefer cheap stuff for experiments so if I damage them I am not going to be too upset.

(batteries like to be charged at this rate). a 12 volt 1 amp panel generates about 15 watts. you can use any solar panels. if you can't get the smaller panels then buy one larger one. (Kyocera sells an inexpensive 7-8 amp solar panel (135 watter)). that would go perfect with 2 deep cycle batteries. the six panels in the video are from harbor freight tools. i bought 2 three panel sets. they sell the panels in sets of three or individually. coleman sells similar panels. the batteries are from walmart. they are 'deep cycle' batteries. the charge controller is from fry's electronics. the inverter is from harbor freight tools. this system will provide all the 'free' power you will need to run tons of things around your house. i've posted 6 videos showing all sorts of things running on this system (computers, tvs, stereos, lights, power tools, appliances, and more). all can be found on my youtube channel homepage. great little system to start with. try 'powering up' one room in your house. you now have a solar assisted house. as one example; this could easily run a light, laptop computer, fan and small tv for several hours every day. also great in an emergency, power outage, remote and rural off-grid living.

Homemade Solar Panels Diy tutorial, complete build
In this video I'm showing you how I built some solar panels from start to finish I tried to make it as detailed as possible. These panels cost me very little to build and are fun projects for everyone. This is just one way of doing this there are lot's of others doing this and good videos out there. Presently I'm using my panels at a job site where there is no electricity available they are running my RV off the grid. These panels are not encapsulated but they work well and low cost not for on roof installation best to be close to ground for inspection.

now we know how much load we will have on a typical day being drawn from our solar batteries its time to determine how large of a battery bank we need. the loads are measured in watts while the batteries are measured in amp hours. once you determine if you will go with a 12v or 24v or even a 48v battery bank system its time to figure out how many amps you will need. match the watts use in a day with the watts in your solar panels however you must consider storms, seasons, bad solar days so having more solar is good. My simple home solar setup - 120w panel - Morningstar Charge Controller
My solar setup consists of a Solar Cynergy 120w panel, a sunsaver 20l charge controller, a voltmeter for the batteries, 4 sealed lead acid batteries and a car cigarette outlet to plug in accessories. In this system I have about $250 total invested. In the system I will install into the van I will have about $500 with all the new wiring and the new 100ah sealed lead acid battery. These panels cost me very little to build and are fun projects for everyone. This is just one way of doing this there are lot's of others doing this and good videos out there. Presently I'm using my panels at a job site where there is no electricity available they are running my RV off the grid. These panels are not encapsulated but they work well and low cost not for on roof installation best to be close to ground for inspection.

A complete (from A to Z) tutorial on how to make a solar panel. all aspects of the build are covered. video breakdown: first minute: intro (w/pics and music). then, part one: "tabbing" solar cells. followed by part two (from 2:07 to 9:14) covering "cell layout and wiring". followed by part 3 (from 9:14 to 18:00) covering "how to build the case". and finally ending with "the wrap-up" (at 18:00). panel i designed is 6v/3.6A/21.6w (max) and can be used an a single "stand alone" panel or as part of a "3 panel set". three of these homemade panels hooked in SERIES gives you a very similar voltage and power output to the 3 panel set that harbor freight sells and works great for charging 12 volt deep cycle batteries. a single one of these panels will power up (or charge up) tons of things. couple of notable things: works great to power up computer case fans (like the type in all of my solar thermal air heaters). note that even though many are 12 volt, they actually run well on any voltage from 6 to 12v. it's also great for charging up most modern electronic devices. the panels' six volt output and 3.6A (3600ma) should give a solid charge to most all of them. couple of notes: i bought the cells as a "kit" on ebay. it comes with 36 to 40 cells (which is enough for three of my panels), the tabbing/buswire, the blocking diode, rosin marker etc... all for about $25.00. then adding in the lumber ($13 to $20) and glass (at $5 a sheet), the cost to build is relatively low (esp. if you make 3 panels). works out to about 25/30 bucks a panel. *a single panel would be roughly 45 to 48 bucks ~ $25 (for kit) $13 (lumber) $5 (glass), plus misc. items. couple other things: for the metal "look" you could use aluminum tape around the edges and paint the wood maybe white (before adding the cells) and the diode is rated 6A. individual solar cell specs: each is: 3"x6" .5v/3.6A/1.8w. lumber: 1/2" plywood (cut to 22/ 1/4" x 18 1/4"), Four one-inch square wooden dowels (2 cut to 22 1/4" and 2 cut to 16 1/4") and Four 3/8" square wooden dowels. the glass is 16" x 20" standard window glass. notable hardware: Four 1.5" screws (for the frame) and Fourteen one-inch screws (for the back). 100% clear silicone caulk. music is from youtube's "copyright free" library. song title... A complete (from A to Z) tutorial on how to make a solar panel. all aspects of the build are covered. video breakdown: first minute: intro (w/pics and music). then, part one: "tabbing" solar cells. followed by part two (from 2:07 to 9:14) covering "cell layout and wiring". followed by part 3 (from 9:14 to 18:00) covering "how to build the case". and finally ending with "the wrap-up" (at 18:00). panel i designed is 6v/3.6A/21.6w (max) and can be used an a single "stand alone" panel or as part of a "3 panel set". three of these homemade panels hooked in SERIES gives you a very similar voltage and power output to the 3 panel set that harbor freight sells and works great for charging 12 volt deep cycle batteries. a single one of these panels will power up (or charge up) tons of things. couple of notable things: works great to power up computer case fans (like the type in all of my solar thermal air heaters). note that even though many are 12 volt, they actually run well on any voltage from 6 to 12v. it's also great for charging up most modern electronic devices. the panels' six volt output and 3.6A (3600ma) should give a solid charge to most all of them. couple of notes: i bought the cells as a "kit" on ebay. it comes with 36 to 40 cells (which is enough for three of my panels), the tabbing/buswire, the blocking diode, rosin marker etc... all for about $25.00. then adding in the lumber ($13 to $20) and glass (at $5 a sheet), the cost to build is relatively low (esp. if you make 3 panels). works out to about 25/30 bucks a panel. *a single panel would be roughly 45 to 48 bucks ~ $25 (for kit) $13 (lumber) $5 (glass), plus misc. items. couple other things: for the metal "look" you could use aluminum tape around the edges and paint the wood maybe white (before adding the cells) and the diode is rated 6A. individual solar cell specs: each is: 3"x6" .5v/3.6A/1.8w. lumber: 1/2" plywood (cut to 22/ 1/4" x 18 1/4"), Four one-inch square wooden dowels (2 cut to 22 1/4" and 2 cut to 16 1/4") and Four 3/8" square wooden dowels. the glass is 16" x 20" standard window glass. notable hardware: Four 1.5" screws (for the frame) and Fourteen one-inch screws (for the back). 100% clear silicone caulk. music is from youtube's "copyright free" library. song title... My solar setup consists of a Solar Cynergy 120w panel, a sunsaver 20l charge controller, a voltmeter for the batteries, 4 sealed lead acid batteries and a car cigarette outlet to plug in accessories. In this system I have about $250 total invested. In the system I will install into the van I will have about $500 with all the new wiring and the new 100ah sealed lead acid battery.
