Five years ago US firefighter Marc Hadden took an emergency call that changed his - and his family's - life forever.

When Marc and his crew arrived on the scene, they found a woman in labour. With no time to get her to the hospital, the North Carolina father-of-two helped the mum deliver the baby girl, later named Grace.

"He called me and he was ecstatic," Hadden's wife, Beth, told WMBF. "I mean, he delivered a baby,  and who in the world gets to deliver a baby in their lifetime that's not a doctor?"

Shortly afterwards, the Haddens heard that Grace's mother had placed her newborn up for adoption. And in a heart-warming twist to an already wonderful story, the Haddens decided they wanted baby Grace to join their sons, Will and Parker.

"Ever since we had the boys, we knew that we wanted more children," Beth said. "But I was pre-term with them so we knew that it wasn't possible to have any more babies. And we had it in our minds and in our hearts for years to adopt ... We said if its meant to be, it will be."

And just 48 hours after Marc took the life-changing phone call to help at her birth, baby Grace was in their arms.

For Marc, the experience was hard to put into words. "I never envisioned that I would have a daughter. We are truly blessed, for sure.

"I don't even think about her being adopted. She's ours and we love her."

And five years on, just look at little Grace now!
