In sports, a stage, or leg, or heat, is a unit of a race which has been divided in several parts for the reason such as length of the distance to be covered, as in a multi-day event. Usually, such a race consists of "ordinary" stages, but sometimes stages are held as an individual time trial or a team time trial. Long races such as the Tour de France, Absa Cape Epic or the Giro d'Italia are known for their stages of one day each, whereas the boat sailing VELUX 5 Oceans Race is broken down in usually four stages of several weeks duration each, where the competitors are racing continuously day and night. In bicycling and running events, a race with stages is known as a stage race.
In an ordinary stage of road bicycle racing, all riders start simultaneously and share the road. Riders are permitted to touch and to shelter behind each other. Riding in each other's slipstreams is crucial to race tactics: a lone rider has little chance of outracing a small group of riders who can take turns in the strenuous position at the front of the group. The majority of riders form a single large group, the "pack" (in French, the "peloton"), with attacking groups ahead of it and the occasional struggling rider dropping behind. In mountainous stages the peloton is likely to become fragmented, but in flat stages a split is rare.
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a class of diseases that involve the heart or blood vessels. Cardiovascular disease includes coronary artery diseases (CAD) such as angina and myocardial infarction (commonly known as a heart attack). Other CVDs are stroke, hypertensive heart disease, rheumatic heart disease, cardiomyopathy, heart arrhythmia, congenital heart disease, endocarditis, aortic aneurysms, peripheral artery disease and venous thrombosis.
The underlying mechanisms vary depending on the disease in question. Coronary artery disease, stroke, and peripheral artery disease involve atherosclerosis. This may be caused by high blood pressure, smoking, diabetes, lack of exercise, obesity, high blood cholesterol, poor diet, and excessive alcohol consumption, among others. High blood pressure results in 13% of CVD deaths, while tobacco results in 9%, diabetes 6%, lack of exercise 6% and obesity 5%. Rheumatic heart disease may follow untreated strep throat.
It is estimated that 90% of CVD is preventable. Prevention of atherosclerosis is by decreasing risk factors through: healthy eating, exercise, avoidance of tobacco smoke and limiting alcohol intake. Treating high blood pressure and diabetes is also beneficial. Treating people who have strep throat with antibiotics can decrease the risk of rheumatic heart disease. The effect of the use of aspirin in people who are otherwise healthy is of unclear benefit. The United States Preventive Services Task Force recommends against its use for prevention in women less than 55 and men less than 45 years old; however, in those who are older it is recommends in some individuals. Treatment of those who have CVD improves outcomes.

The Giro d'Italia (Italian pronunciation: [ˈdʒiːro diˈtaːlja]; English: Tour of Italy) is an annual stage race bicycle race primarily held in Italy, while also occasionally passing through nearby countries. The race was first organized in 1909 to increase sales of the newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport; however it is currently run by RCS Sport. The race has been held annually since its first edition in 1909, except when it was stopped for the two world wars. As the Giro gained prominence and popularity the race was lengthened, and the peloton expanded from primarily Italian participation to riders from all over the world. The Giro is a UCI World Tour event, which means that the teams that compete in the race are mostly UCI Proteams, with the exception of the teams that the organizers can invite.
Along with the Tour de France and Vuelta a España, the Giro makes up cycling's prestigious three-week-long Grand Tours. The Giro is usually held during late May and early June. While the route changes each year, the format of the race stays the same, with the appearance of at least two time trials, and a passage through the mountains of the Alps, including the Dolomites. Like the other Grand Tours, the modern editions of the Giro d'Italia normally consist of 21 day-long segments (stages) over a 23-day period that includes 2 rest days.

For the second year running, Boels-Dolmans Cycling Team’s three-time U.S. National Champion Megan Guarnier mounted a remarkable climb to a first-place finish at day one of the Amgen Breakaway from Heart Disease™ Women’s Race empowered with SRAM. The result came down to the final climb just as it did on the same South Lake Tahoe route last year, when California’s Bay Area-based Guarnier took the stage and went on to become the overall race champion.
The dreaded Queen Stage of Ronda Pilipinas 2013. The seasoned Veterans were expected to dominate this lap, but it was a big surprise to see young blood taking the helm. It was a great day for the riders of Mindanao as history is made and a new hero emerges, rider 155 Junrey Navarra breaks all records as he crosses the finish line in Baguio.
Team Sunweb's Coryn Rivera led a fast and furious group sprint over the finish line to claim Stage 3 of the Amgen Breakaway from Heart Disease™ Women's Race empowered with SRAM as it streamed into the Sacramento area today.
Presented by Visit California, the second of two South Lake Tahoe stages was an all-new route that included Amgen Tour of California’s first encounter with Kingsbury Grade, an 8-mile climb that gains 2,700’ in elevation.
Sports Director Matt White and Caleb Ewan wrap the opening stage at the Giro in the second part of today's Backstage Pass.
Yea, a 20 min vlog is crazy. But I felt like if I split it into 2 or 3 parts that would be kinda douchy. It would have been cool to do each day and upload it that night, but it takes me a long time to edit these. This is a 3 days/ 4 races, lots of footage, thanks for your support! I promise I will start doing better in the races. My fitness is getting there, just need to make it happen. Follow this bruh!
