After their split almost a year ago, Angelina Jolie is finally opening up about her life post-Brad.
In September 2016, after two years of marriage, the couple separated over "irreconcilable differences," and included terms that Pitt not be allowed physical custody of their six children. The two broke hearts around the world—and now, Jolie opens up in an interview with Vanity Fair, revealing the truth behind her life after splitting with Brad.
“I was very worried about my mother, growing up—a lot. I do not want my children to be worried about me,” she said in the interview. “I think it’s very important to cry in the shower and not in front of them. They need to know that everything’s going to be all right even when you’re not sure it is.”
As a child, Jolie witnessed her parents, Marcheline Bertrand and Jon Voight, divorce after Voight allegedly had an affair. Jolie had since been estranged from her father, but recently reconciled with him in light of the divorce, and the impact on her children.
“He’s been very good at understanding they needed their grandfather at this time. I had to do a therapy meeting last night and he was just around,” she said of her father. “He knows kind of the rule: Don’t make them play with you. Just be a cool grandpa who’s creative, and hang out and tell stories and read a book in the library.”
VF also reports that Jolie had recovered from Bell’s Palsy, “a result of damage to facial nerves, causing one side of her face to droop," although her acupuncture treatments hid the condition entirely from the paparazzi.

Jolie said that ultimately, she and Pitt are focused on their children and making their family work.
“We care for each other and care about our family, and we are both working towards the same goal," Jolie said.
