Leap Motion, Inc. is an American company that manufactures and markets a computer hardware sensor device that supports hand and finger motions as input, analogous to a mouse, but requires no hand contact or touching.
The technology for Leap Motion was first developed in 2008, while co-founder David Holz was studying for a Ph.D. in mathematics. Following an initial angel investment, Holz co-founded the company in 2010 with his childhood friend Michael Buckwald. The company raised a $1.3M seed financing round in June 2011 with investments from venture capital firms Andreessen Horowitz, Founders Fund, and SOSV, as well as several angel investors. In May 2012, Leap Motion announced a $12.75M Series A funding round led by Highland Capital Partners. In January 2013, Leap Motion announced a further series B round of funding for $30M.
After operating in quiet since 2010, Leap Motion publicly announced its first product, originally called The Leap, on May 21, 2012. The company launched a software developer program in October 2012 and distributed roughly 12,000 units to developers interested in creating applications for the device. While the device was slated to launch in May 2013, full-scale shipping was later delayed until July. In March 2014, it was reported in TechCrunch that roughly 500,000 units had been sold, far short of initial expectations; as a result, Leap Motion announced layoffs for 10 percent of its workforce, primarily in sales and marketing.

Motion may refer to:
A motion controller controls the motion of some object. Frequently motion controllers are implemented using digital computers, but motion controllers can also be implemented with only analog components as well.
Motion controllers require a load (something to be moved), a prime mover (something to cause the load to move), some sensors (to be able to sense the motion and monitor the prime mover), and a controller to provide the intelligence to cause the prime mover to move the load as desired.
Just about everything that is man-made requires motion control during its manufacture, packaging, distribution or use.
Motion controllers are used to achieve some desired benefit(s) which can include:

Leap Motion represents an entirely new way to interact with your computers. It's more accurate than a mouse, as reliable as a keyboard and more sensitive than a touchscreen. For the first time, you can control a computer in three dimensions with your natural hand and finger movements. The Leap Motion will begin shipping on May 13, 2013. The Leap Motion works on Windows Vista/7/8 and Mac OS X, with Linux being on the agenda. In this video, we are running Windows 7. The display is an Apple Cinema display. When Autodesk collides with Leap Motion, things you're thinking in your mind can happen so much faster.
Leap Motion Controller Hands-On The Leap Motion Controller is a product of interest: ever since we saw Leap's trailer, promising gesture-based navigation on our computers, we've been patiently waiting to put it to the test. The verdict? In short, it's not quite the earth-shattering, game-changing experience we hoped for, but it is pretty cool to control various apps with a wave of the hand. Today we are going to make some fidget spinners in Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality with a DIY Hololens of sorts. This mixed reality or augmented reality tutorial with the Unity 3D video game engine will show you how to get the Leap Motion communicating with your mobile phone in AR and VR so you can use your hands to interact with 3D objects (hand tracking) using a Google Cardboard style VR headset and your mobile device. We will use Unity 3D to create the 3D world and the Vuforia plugin to create the AR and VR apps that we will use. Will and Norm test the Leap Motion, a small USB device that sits on your desk that can sense hand motions and gestures with a claimed precision of 0.01mm. We explain how the controller works, show what you can do with it in games and Windows, and discuss whether desktop computers need gesture controls.
Video states that this exercise only works with ProcessingV2. This is incorrect. It will also work with ProcessingV3. For use in Georgia Gwinnett College with LeapMotion and the Processing sketch "HandsAndFingers".
