The Adachi Museum of Art (足立美術館, Adachi Bijutsukan) was founded by Adachi Zenko in 1980 as a way of combining his passions for Japanese art and garden design. He hoped that viewing the gardens and artwork together would expand peoples' appreciation and interest in Japanese art.The Adachi Museum of Art is best known for its award winning garden. It has been named the best garden in Japan annually since 2003 by the "Journal of Japanese Gardening". The garden can be enjoyed at anytime of the year and shows a different character depending on the season. It can only be viewed from the museum building.
Iwami Ginzan (石見銀山) is a historic silver mine in the mountains of Oda City, Shimane Prefecture. The most prominent silver mine in Japan, it was discovered in the early 16th century and was mined for nearly 400 years.
The main attractions are divided into three areas. The Silver Mine area includes mine shafts and ruins from the area's mining period as well as a few temples and shrines. The Omori Town area includes museums, historical residences, and more shrines and temples.

Japanese garden
Japanese gardens (日本庭園, nihon teien) are traditional gardens that create miniature idealized landscapes, often in a highly abstract and stylized way. The gardens of the Emperors and nobles were designed for recreation and aesthetic pleasure, while the gardens of Buddhist temples were designed for contemplation and meditation.
Japanese garden styles include karesansui, Japanese rock gardens or Zen gardens, which are meditation gardens where white sand replaces water; roji, simple, rustic gardens with teahouses where the Japanese tea ceremony is conducted; kaiyū-shiki-teien, promenade or stroll gardens, where the visitor follows a path around the garden to see carefully composed landscapes; and tsubo-niwa, small courtyard gardens.
Japanese gardens were developed under the influences of the Chinese gardens, but gradually Japanese garden designers began to develop their own aesthetics, based on Japanese materials and Japanese culture. By the Edo period, the Japanese garden had its own distinct appearance. Since the end of the 19th century, Japanese gardens have also been adapted to Western settings.

Japanese Gardens (Hayward, California)
The Hayward Japanese Gardens, located near downtown Hayward, are the oldest Japanese gardens in California designed along traditional lines. They are maintained by the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District (HARD).
History
The site formerly housed the Hayward High School agricultural studies program, from 1913 to 1962. The land was designated as a future park site in 1962, with HARD beginning the acquisition process in 1972. The park's current area was fully acquired by 1976, and the park was dedicated in 1980.
Design
The garden was designed by Kimio Kimura. It follows Japanese garden design principles, using California native stone and plants. No stains were used on the wood constructions. Nails and fasteners are recessed, and all wood was notched, and aged, to simulate the appearance of a traditional Japanese garden.
Activities
Weddings are conducted at the Gardens. They are adjacent to the Douglas Morrisson Theatre, which is also operated by HARD.

Garden design
Garden design is the art and process of designing and creating plans for layout and planting of gardens and landscapes. Garden design may be done by the garden owner themselves, or by professionals of varying levels of experience and expertise. Most professional garden designers have some training in horticulture and the principles of design, and some are also landscape architects, a more formal level of training that usually requires an advanced degree and often a state license. Amateur gardeners may also attain a high level of experience from extensive hours working in their own gardens, through casual study, serious study in Master Gardener Programs, or by joining gardening clubs.
Elements of garden design
Whether a garden is designed by a professional or an amateur, certain principles form the basis of effective garden design, resulting in the creation of gardens to meet the needs, goals and desires of the users or owners of the gardens.
Elements of garden design include the layout of hard landscape, such as paths, walls, water features, sitting areas and decking; as well as the plants themselves, with consideration for their horticultural requirements, their season-to-season appearance, lifespan, growth habit, size, speed of growth, and combinations with other plants and landscape features. Consideration is also given to the maintenance needs of the garden, including the time or funds available for regular maintenance, which can affect the choice of plants in terms of speed of growth, spreading or self-seeding of the plants, whether annual or perennial, and bloom-time, and many other characteristics.

From prominent temple gardens in Kyoto to the tranquil stone oasis at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Shiro Nakane is keeping the art of the traditional Japanese garden alive. Favoring subdued assemblages of stones and greenery over lush florals, the Japanese garden is revered for its calm, meditative quality. Son of garden master Kinsaku Nakane, Shiro began studying the craft as a young boy and has been following in his father’s footsteps ever since. He comes to Japan Society to share his insights on Japanese garden design gained through a lifetime of work in the field. Moderated by Stephen Morrell, Director of the John P. Humes Japanese Stroll Garden.

The main attractions are divided into three areas. The Silver Mine area includes mine shafts and ruins from the area's mining period as well as a few temples and shrines. The Omori Town area includes museums, historical residences, and more shrines and temples.

Favoring subdued assemblages of stones and greenery over lush florals, the Japanese garden is revered for its calm, meditative quality. Son of garden master Kinsaku Nakane, Shiro began studying the craft as a young boy and has been following in his father’s footsteps ever since. He comes to Japan Society to share his insights on Japanese garden design gained through a lifetime of work in the field. Moderated by Stephen Morrell, Director of the John P. Humes Japanese Stroll Garden.

The garden is named "Seiwa-en" which means "Garden of pure, clear harmony and peace" .A four-acre lake is complemented with waterfalls, streams, and water-filled basins. Video of a visit to the Missouri Botanical Garden from May, 2016 in St. Louis, Missouri. The 14-acre Japanese Garden was dedicated in 1977, and is one of the largest in North America. The garden is named "Seiwa-en" which means "Garden of pure, clear harmony and peace" .A four-acre lake is complemented with waterfalls, streams, and water-filled basins. Dry gravel gardens are raked into beautiful, rippling patterns. Four islands rise from the lake to form symbolic images. Several Japanese bridges link shorelines; families delight in the feeding of the giant “koi” (Japanese carp).
As you can see in the video the Chinese Garden currently is undergoing renovation.The Margaret Grigg Nanjing Friendship Garden at the Missouri Botanical Garden is modeled on the “scholar’s gardens” of the southern provinces of China, near Nanjing, which are smaller and less ornate than the Imperial gardens of the north. Designed by Chinese-born architect Yong Pan, this garden is a showplace of extraordinary craftsmanship.
It is often said that a Chinese garden is built, not planted. The architectural elements were designed and built by Chinese artisans in Nanjing, China using the traditional colors indicative of a southern Chinese Garden: black, white, gray and reddish brown for the different elements such as the walls, pavilion, bridges, and blue stone pavings with their exquisite mosaic designs. The pavilion, marble bridge and marble balustrade were painstakingly reconstructed at the Missouri Botanical Garden during the summer of 1996, under the watchful eye of five experts from the Nanjing Municipal Bureau of Urban Parks and Open Space Administration. The Garden commemorates the longstanding scientific and cultural exchanges between the Missouri Botanical Garden and Chinese botanical institutions, and honors the sister city relationship between St. Louis, Mo. and Nanjing, China.
In the Nanjing Friendship Garden a hand-carved white marble bridge with a moon arch beneath traverses a narrow mountain stream that cascades over several small falls, feeding into the central pond at the heart of the garden. The hand carved white marble balustrade sits across the pond complementing the bridge. Five stones are strategically placed in the pond, symbolizing the five sacred mountains in China, while rocks from both China and Missouri have been selected for placement at the stream and water’s edge.
