Japan (i/dʒəˈpæn/; Japanese: 日本 Nippon [nip̚põ̞ɴ] or Nihon [nihõ̞ɴ]; formally 日本国 Nippon-koku or Nihon-koku, "State of Japan") is an island country in East Asia. Located in the Pacific Ocean, it lies to the east of the Sea of Japan, the East China Sea, China, North Korea, South Korea and Russia, stretching from the Sea of Okhotsk in the north to the East China Sea and Taiwan in the south. The kanji that make up Japan's name mean "sun origin", and Japan is often called the "Land of the Rising Sun".
Japan is a stratovolcanic archipelago of 6,852 islands. The four largest are Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu, and Shikoku, which make up about ninety-seven percent of Japan's land area. Japan's population of 126 million is the world's tenth largest. Approximately 9.1 million people live in Tokyo, the capital city of Japan, which is the sixth largest city proper in the OECD. The Greater Tokyo Area, which includes Tokyo and several surrounding prefectures, is the world's largest metropolitan area with over 35 million residents and the world's largest urban agglomeration economy.
Tokyo (東京, Tōkyō, "Eastern Capital") (Japanese: [toːkjoː], English /ˈtoʊki.oʊ/), officially Tokyo Metropolis (東京都, Tōkyō-to), is one of the 47 prefectures of Japan, and is both the capital and largest city of Japan. The Greater Tokyo Area is the most populous metropolitan area in the world. It is the seat of the Emperor of Japan and the Japanese government. Tokyo is in the Kantō region on the southeastern side of the main island Honshu and includes the Izu Islands and Ogasawara Islands. Formerly known as Edo, it has been the de facto seat of government since 1603 when Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu made the city his headquarters. It officially became the capital after Emperor Meiji moved his seat to the city from the old capital of Kyoto in 1868; at that time Edo was renamed Tokyo. Tokyo Metropolis was formed in 1943 from the merger of the former Tokyo Prefecture (東京府, Tōkyō-fu) and the city of Tokyo (東京市, Tōkyō-shi).
Kathmandu(/ˌkɑːtmɑːnˈduː/;Nepali pronunciation: [kɑʈʰmɑɳɖu]) is the capital and largest municipality of Nepal. It also hosts the headquarters of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC). It is the only city of Nepal with the administrative status of Mahanagar (Metropolitan City), as compared to Upa-Mahanagar (Sub-Metropolitan City) or Nagar (City). Kathmandu is the core of Nepal's largest urban agglomeration located in the Kathmandu Valley consisting of Lalitpur, Kirtipur, Madhyapur Thimi, Bhaktapur and a number of smaller communities. Kathmandu is also known informally as "KTM" or the "tri-city". According to the 2011 census, Kathmandu Metropolitan City has a population of 975,453 and measures 49.45 square kilometres (19.09 sq mi).
The city stands at an elevation of approximately 1,400 metres (4,600 ft) in the bowl-shaped Kathmandu Valley of central Nepal. It is surrounded by four major hills: Shivapuri, Phulchoki, Nagarjun, and Chandragiri. Kathmandu Valley is part of three districts (Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur), has the highest population density in the country, and is home to about a twelfth of Nepal's population.
Travel is the movement of people between relatively distant geographical locations, and can involve travel by foot, bicycle, automobile, train, boat, airplane, or other means, with or without luggage, and can be one way or round trip. Travel can also include relatively short stays between successive movements.
The origin of the word "travel" is most likely lost to history. The term "travel" may originate from the Old French word travail. According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, the first known use of the word travel was in the 14th century. It also states that the word comes from Middle English travailen, travelen (which means to torment, labor, strive, journey) and earlier from Old French travailler (which means to work strenuously, toil). In English we still occasionally use the words travail and travails, which mean struggle. According to Simon Winchester in his book The Best Travelers' Tales (2004), the words travel and travail both share an even more ancient root: a Roman instrument of torture called the tripalium (in Latin it means "three stakes", as in to impale). This link reflects the extreme difficulty of travel in ancient times. Also note the torturous connotation of the word "travailler." Today, travel may or may not be much easier depending upon the destination you choose (i.e., Mt. Everest, the Amazon rainforest), how you plan to get there (tour bus, cruise ship, or oxcart), and whether or not you decide to "rough it (see extreme tourism and adventure travel). "There's a big difference between simply being a tourist and being a true world traveler," notes travel writer Michael Kasum. This is, however, a contested distinction as academic work on the cultures and sociology of travel has noted.

In part two of my video travel guide to India I travel to Bodhgaya, one of the most sacred places in all of the Buddhist religion. It was at this location 2,500 years ago that a young Prince Siddhartha sat under a fig tree, meditated and found enlightenment, thus becoming the Buddha. I start off by visiting the many temples that have been built by various Buddhists from around the world, including temples dedicated to Buddhists living in China, Japan, Tibet and Nepal. I then visit the Tergar Monastery, one of the largest Buddhist complexes in the region, which is a short walk from the main road. I then head to the sacred Mahabodhi Temple complex in the center of town. At sunset it is a scenic, peaceful time to explore the grounds, which include a large monument built at the Bodhi Tree it...

The World Before Me is a modern-day round the world trip, set to the words of a 19th century poet. “Afoot and light-hearted I take to the open road, healthy, free, the world before me.” 160 years have passed since Walt Whitman penned this text, but feelings about travel remain the same. We’re still inspired by the open road and still excited by discovering the unknown. In the fall of 2015, while preparing for a trip that would take me literally around the world, I couldn't shake the desire to share the experience of travel, which for me is a very personal one. This film is the culmination of that desire. I carried my camera for 5 months through 15 countries. The endless metropolis of Tokyo, tiny islands of The Philippines, busy streets of India, the Swiss Alps and the Scottish Highland...

However, Japan too was a nation of castle-builders. In its feudal days, you could find multiple castles in nearly every prefecture. The ornamented pagodas, the Japanese gardens, the calm Shintoist sanctuaries tell us about the age of shoguns and ninjas. The digital cameras and the swords of the samurais can be found at the same store. In the restaurants one can have sushi, sukiyaki and tempura sitting on a tatami, using chopsticks. Compilation of photos and videos from our 5 day trip to Japan. January 11-15, 2017, Kansai International Airport
Japan...... amazing in every way possible. 8 visits here and I'm still amazed by this beautiful country. Where the streets are clean and safe. Where the people are so polite/respectful/kind/friendly/courteous/mindful. Where there are literally hundreds of restaurants to choose from within a city block. 2 week trip compiled into a 48 min. video! Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Nara and Himeji. Tokyo Disney Sea and a Yomiuri Giants baseball game. I didn't get to record "everything" that was experienced here but it's okay, there's always next time right?! Please pardon my amateur ability at recording. This is my first time using the GoPro unit! Food- GoGo Curry, Ippudo, Sukiya, Gyu-An, Katsukura, Genki/Ueobi Sushi, Daruma Kushiage, Kushiya monagatari, Mutekiya Ramen. Sights: Harajuku Takeshita Dori,...

We were in Tokyo for 7 days, and vlogged our whole trip! This is Day 1, where we journey from Narita Airport to our AirBNB house in western Tokyo. It was my first time being back in Japan, my home country, in 17 years! For our first day, Marie and I were awake for about 21 hour straight. We spent many hours commuting... and were finally glad to check into our AirBNB in Hounancho, a quick 15 minute trip west of Shinjuku Station. Once we dropped off our bags, we just wanted to get out and eat some real Japanese food, and what's better than some authentic Japanese ramen! To answer many questions, no, I'm not Japanese. I am Korean-American. My mother is from Seoul. My father is from Chicago. I was born and raised in Japan, and grew up on U.S. Navy bases there. My father was in the ...
Our tour starts in the capital, Bogotá, before heading southward across the Andes as far as Popayàn. We then head back north to the coastline of the Caribbean Sea. Our journey takes us through some fabulous landscapes while stopping off to discover cities such as Cali, Medellin and Cartagena. Not forgetting the rural regions and encounters with Amerindians, plus some prestigious archaeological sites like the Ciudad Perdida (lost city). Our journey is by road, not by plane despite the long distances involved. This way we get a closer look at the daily life of local inhabitants and take in the wide variety of natural landscapes. Colombia is a vast country sandwiched between South and Central America. Notorious for its social and economic problems (poverty, drug-trafficking and armed militia...
