Created in 1949, the Department of Defense is responsible for coordinating all government functions and agencies related to matters of national security and the United States Armed Forces. Hosted by Benari Poulten, a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserve and veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.
The Pentagon is the headquarters of the United States Department of Defense, located in Arlington County, Virginia. As a symbol of the U.S. military, "the Pentagon" is often used metonymically to refer to the U.S. Department of Defense.
The Pentagon was designed by American architect George Bergstrom (1876–1955), and built by general contractor John McShain of Philadelphia. Ground was broken for construction on September 11, 1941, and the building was dedicated on January 15, 1943. General Brehon Somervell provided the major motive power behind the project; Colonel Leslie Groves was responsible for overseeing the project for the U.S. Army.
The Department of Defense is an executive branch department of the federal government of the United States charged with coordinating and supervising all agencies and functions of the government concerned directly with national security and the United States Armed Forces. The Department is also the largest employer in the world, with more than 2.13 million active duty servicemen and women as well as their support staff of civilian workers. In the United States, Special Agent is usually the title for a detective or investigator for a state, county, municipal, federal or tribal government who conducts criminal investigations and has arrest authority. An Agent is a federal law enforcement officer with arrest authority but who does not conduct major criminal investigations or who may conduct investigations but does not have arrest authority. The DOD has wasted no time in releasing the footage of the first ever MOAB strike conducted in battle. They released the footage with the following statement:
“A GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast bomb strikes ISIS-K cave and tunnel systems in the Achin district of the Nangarhar Province in eastern Afghanistan at 7:32 p.m. local time Thursday. The strike was designed to minimize risk to Afghan and U.S. Forces conducting clearing operations in the area while maximizing the destruction of ISIS-K fighters and facilities and eliminate any perceived safe haven for ISIS-K in Afghanistan.”
The airstrike targeted a massive cave tunnel complex being used by the insurgents that allowed them to move freely without detection from the air and gave them the ability to attack coalition troops with minimal risk to themselves. The MOAB was used because it causes overpressure, resulting in the collapse of tunnels and caves. The DOD estimates that at least 36 Islamic State fighters were killed in the strike, and due to the remoteness or the site, no civilians were effected.
The footage is underwhelming if you don’t know what to look for or do not understand the mountainous topography presented in the video. There isn’t much there for scale, and the thermal imaging does little to clarify anything. You just have to accept that you are looking at the detonation of the largest non-nuclear bomb ever deployed in combat. Cross your fingers that witness videos will be hitting the internet shortly.
This strike is the second high profile US Military strike in a short period of time. Almost 60 Tomahawk missiles dominated a Syrian government airbase a week ago. Many are wondering why we would choose to use one of the few MOABs we have in order to kill just ~36 ISIS fighters. Was it retribution for the death of US Army Staff Sgt. Mark De Alencar of 7th Special Forces Group, who was killed fighting in the same area just a few days ago? Or was it a successful test run for the preemptive strike on North Korea’s nuclear assets and leadership?
That answer remains to be seen, but what is clear is that after eight years of the worst foreign policy in American history, the US military is again reasserting itself as the most dominant fighting force on the planet, and our message is clear. “Don’t mess with us.”

The U.S. State Department is developing a steel barrier that can immediately stop a speeding 15,000-pound truck.
The government agency is developing the structure with the Texas A&M; Transportation Institute at the university in College Station who released a video of a test run that shows the truck getting completely totaled after colliding with the barrier at 50 mph.
Dean Alberson, a research engineer at the institute, told the Daily News the project is being developed to protect international U.S. embassy bases. The anti-ram vehicle barrier, which is being referred to simply as "bent pipe" until the department provides an official name, is 24 feet long, has a diameter of 12 inches, and will stand 42 inches high from the ground, he said. The solid steel pipe is placed 18 inches deep into concrete, he said.
The structure was only slightly displaced from the massive collision but the truck which had been used to deliver Blue Bunny ice cream was totaled, he said. The institute uses a cable pulley system to maneuver the vehicle and he added safety to the driver is not a priority.

Ministry of Defence
A Ministry of Defence or Defense (see spelling differences), also known as a Department of Defence or Defense, is the common name for a part of the government found in states where the government is divided into ministries or departments, responsible for matters of defence. Such a department usually includes all branches of the military, and is usually controlled by a Defence Minister, Minister of Defence, or Secretary of Defense.
Historically, such departments were referred to as a Ministry of War or Department of War, although such departments generally had authority only over the army of a country, with a separate department governing other military branches. Prior to WWII, most "Ministries of War" were Army ministries, while the Navy and the Air Force, if it existed as a separate branch, had their own departments. As late as 1953, for example, the Soviets for instance had a "Ministry of War" alongside a "Ministry of the Navy".
The tendency to consolidate and rename these departments to highlight their purpose as providing "defence" arose after World War II. In India, for example, "the name of the War Department was found objectionable in the sense that the concept had an aggressive aspect which was inconsistent with Indian traditions".

LPCCD is building a sustainable arts and cultural district by constructing affordable green housing, building sustainable performance venues, training local residents through their green job training program and growing food in their urban farm. He is also a former Producer of the Black August Hip-Hop Benefit Concerts, a hip-hop benefit concert for the families of US political prisoners and prisoners of war. About Anyabwile Love : Anyabwile Love is a PhD student at Temple University in the department of African American Studies. A Philadelphia native he received both his Bachelor and Masters in African American studies from Temple as well. His dissertation topic focuses on the African retentions of cultural meaning making in the compositions of John Coltrane. A primary focus of his research will be to examine the structure and function of the Akan proverbs and to identify within Coltrane’s composition similarities in function. Particular attention being paid to how Akan proverbs and Coltrane’s compositions express the history and wisdom of its people. Anyabwile has presented on various aspects of African tradition and contemporary culture at Temple’s Graduate Conference, National Council of Black Studies annual Conference and at the Schomburg Institute for Research. As well he has appeared on several radio talk shows discussing African music and Hip Hop and has written for the Black Commentator. United States Department of Defense : Testing anti-ram vehicle barrier
The U.S. State Department is developing a steel barrier that can immediately stop a speeding 15,000-pound truck. The government agency is developing the structure with the Texas A&M; Transportation Institute at the university in College Station who released a video of a test run that shows the truck getting completely totaled after colliding with the barrier at 50 mph. Dean Alberson, a research engineer at the institute, told the Daily News the project is being developed to protect international U.S. embassy bases. This strike is the second high profile US Military strike in a short period of time. Almost 60 Tomahawk missiles dominated a Syrian government airbase a week ago. Many are wondering why we would choose to use one of the few MOABs we have in order to kill just ~36 ISIS fighters. Was it retribution for the death of US Army Staff Sgt. Mark De Alencar of 7th Special Forces Group, who was killed fighting in the same area just a few days ago? Or was it a successful test run for the preemptive strike on North Korea’s nuclear assets and leadership?
That answer remains to be seen, but what is clear is that after eight years of the worst foreign policy in American history, the US military is again reasserting itself as the most dominant fighting force on the planet, and our message is clear. “Don’t mess with us.”

The U.S. State Department is developing a steel barrier that can immediately stop a speeding 15,000-pound truck.
The government agency is developing the structure with the Texas A&M; Transportation Institute at the university in College Station who released a video of a test run that shows the truck getting completely totaled after colliding with the barrier at 50 mph.
Dean Alberson, a research engineer at the institute, told the Daily News the project is being developed to protect international U.S. embassy bases. The anti-ram vehicle barrier, which is being referred to simply as "bent pipe" until the department provides an official name, is 24 feet long, has a diameter of 12 inches, and will stand 42 inches high from the ground, he said. The solid steel pipe is placed 18 inches deep into concrete, he said.
The structure was only slightly displaced from the massive collision but the truck which had been used to deliver Blue Bunny ice cream was totaled, he said. The institute uses a cable pulley system to maneuver the vehicle and he added safety to the driver is not a priority.

BRSC will host In Defense of Our Daughters: Brothers Against Sexual Violence, an all male panel moderated by Quentin Walcott, featuring community developer Baye Adofo-Wilson, Professor Anyabwile Love, and filmmaker Joshua Bee Alafia. The discussion will address how men are actively working to pr...event issues of sexual violence against women in the local community and abroad.
About the Panelists:
Quentin Walcott: Director of CONNECT’s Training Institute and Community Empowerment Program. At CONNECT, a New York City based organization dedicated to ending family and gender violence, Quentin also spearheads the Male Anti-Violence initiatives, where he creatively develops educational and training programs to cultivate participation and leadership by men in the anti-violence movement. Recent projects include the Verizon Joint Labor Management Committee initiative, Men & Women as Allies, a collaborative project that includes CWA Cornell University’s ILR School, for Verizon management and craft from CWA Locals 1106 & 1108, which creates awareness on the connections between Domestic violence, Bullying and Workplace violence. As a convener of the newly created V-Day Men’s Committee, he developed a curriculum and training for young adult males that examined violence against women and girls at V-Day’s New York Stop the Violence Festival. Quentin and his team of anti-violence educators have launched new city-wide network and workshops for men called Men@Work, looking to transform men and women from bystanders to allies to activists against family and gender violence.
About Baye Adofo-Wilson:
Baye Adofo-Wilson is a planner, lawyer, activist and the Executive Director of Lincoln Park Coast Cultural District (LPCCD), a sustainable arts and cultural community development corporation redeveloping the Lincoln Park neighborhood in Newark, NJ. LPCCD is building a sustainable arts and cultural district by constructing affordable green housing, building sustainable performance venues, training local residents through their green job training program and growing food in their urban farm. He is also a former Producer of the Black August Hip-Hop Benefit Concerts, a hip-hop benefit concert for the families of US political prisoners and prisoners of war.
About Anyabwile Love :
Anyabwile Love is a PhD student at Temple University in the department of African American Studies. A Philadelphia native he received both his Bachelor and Masters in African American studies from Temple as well. His dissertation topic focuses on the African retentions of cultural meaning making in the compositions of John Coltrane. A primary focus of his research will be to examine the structure and function of the Akan proverbs and to identify within Coltrane’s composition similarities in function. Particular attention being paid to how Akan proverbs and Coltrane’s compositions express the history and wisdom of its people. Anyabwile has presented on various aspects of African tradition and contemporary culture at Temple’s Graduate Conference, National Council of Black Studies annual Conference and at the Schomburg Institute for Research. As well he has appeared on several radio talk shows discussing African music and Hip Hop and has written for the Black Commentator.
Currently Anyabwile serves as a Teaching Assistant at Temple University where he teaches ‘The History of African Music’ and ‘The History of Hip-Hop’. He also serves as a adjunct professor at Lincoln University where he teaches ‘Intro to African American History’. During the summer of 2011 Anyabwile will be studying and researching in Ghana with noted musicologist Kwabena Nketia.
About joshua bee alafia:
joshua bee alafia started making films in high school and graduated from the University of California at Santa Cruz with a BA in Film in 1995. Since then he has been freelancing as a Cinematographer and Editor in World Cinema. The U.S. State Department is developing a steel barrier that can immediately stop a speeding 15,000-pound truck. The government agency is developing the structure with the Texas A&M; Transportation Institute at the university in College Station who released a video of a test run that shows the truck getting completely totaled after colliding with the barrier at 50 mph. Dean Alberson, a research engineer at the institute, told the Daily News the project is being developed to protect international U.S. embassy bases. You just have to accept that you are looking at the detonation of the largest non-nuclear bomb ever deployed in combat. Cross your fingers that witness videos will be hitting the internet shortly.
This strike is the second high profile US Military strike in a short period of time. Almost 60 Tomahawk missiles dominated a Syrian government airbase a week ago. Many are wondering why we would choose to use one of the few MOABs we have in order to kill just ~36 ISIS fighters. Was it retribution for the death of US Army Staff Sgt. Mark De Alencar of 7th Special Forces Group, who was killed fighting in the same area just a few days ago? Or was it a successful test run for the preemptive strike on North Korea’s nuclear assets and leadership?
That answer remains to be seen, but what is clear is that after eight years of the worst foreign policy in American history, the US military is again reasserting itself as the most dominant fighting force on the planet, and our message is clear. “Don’t mess with us.”

BRSC will host In Defense of Our Daughters: Brothers Against Sexual Violence, an all male panel moderated by Quentin Walcott, featuring community developer Baye Adofo-Wilson, Professor Anyabwile Love, and filmmaker Joshua Bee Alafia. The discussion will address how men are actively working to pr...event issues of sexual violence against women in the local community and abroad.
About the Panelists:
Quentin Walcott: Director of CONNECT’s Training Institute and Community Empowerment Program. At CONNECT, a New York City based organization dedicated to ending family and gender violence, Quentin also spearheads the Male Anti-Violence initiatives, where he creatively develops educational and training programs to cultivate participation and leadership by men in the anti-violence movement. Recent projects include the Verizon Joint Labor Management Committee initiative, Men & Women as Allies, a collaborative project that includes CWA Cornell University’s ILR School, for Verizon management and craft from CWA Locals 1106 & 1108, which creates awareness on the connections between Domestic violence, Bullying and Workplace violence. As a convener of the newly created V-Day Men’s Committee, he developed a curriculum and training for young adult males that examined violence against women and girls at V-Day’s New York Stop the Violence Festival. Quentin and his team of anti-violence educators have launched new city-wide network and workshops for men called Men@Work, looking to transform men and women from bystanders to allies to activists against family and gender violence.
About Baye Adofo-Wilson:
Baye Adofo-Wilson is a planner, lawyer, activist and the Executive Director of Lincoln Park Coast Cultural District (LPCCD), a sustainable arts and cultural community development corporation redeveloping the Lincoln Park neighborhood in Newark, NJ. LPCCD is building a sustainable arts and cultural district by constructing affordable green housing, building sustainable performance venues, training local residents through their green job training program and growing food in their urban farm. He is also a former Producer of the Black August Hip-Hop Benefit Concerts, a hip-hop benefit concert for the families of US political prisoners and prisoners of war.
About Anyabwile Love :
Anyabwile Love is a PhD student at Temple University in the department of African American Studies. A Philadelphia native he received both his Bachelor and Masters in African American studies from Temple as well. His dissertation topic focuses on the African retentions of cultural meaning making in the compositions of John Coltrane. A primary focus of his research will be to examine the structure and function of the Akan proverbs and to identify within Coltrane’s composition similarities in function. Particular attention being paid to how Akan proverbs and Coltrane’s compositions express the history and wisdom of its people. Anyabwile has presented on various aspects of African tradition and contemporary culture at Temple’s Graduate Conference, National Council of Black Studies annual Conference and at the Schomburg Institute for Research. As well he has appeared on several radio talk shows discussing African music and Hip Hop and has written for the Black Commentator.
Currently Anyabwile serves as a Teaching Assistant at Temple University where he teaches ‘The History of African Music’ and ‘The History of Hip-Hop’. He also serves as a adjunct professor at Lincoln University where he teaches ‘Intro to African American History’. During the summer of 2011 Anyabwile will be studying and researching in Ghana with noted musicologist Kwabena Nketia.
About joshua bee alafia:
joshua bee alafia started making films in high school and graduated from the University of California at Santa Cruz with a BA in Film in 1995. Since then he has been freelancing as a Cinematographer and Editor in World Cinema. His cinematographer credits in documentaries include; Every Day Art in Cuba, We Just Tellin’ Stories: Rodessa Jones’ Medea Project, Making Tortillas with the Mayans, Besouro Preto, Behind the Green Line, the Road to Sao Tome, the Cuban Hip Hop All Stars, Havana Habibi, Dub Poet: Oku Onuora and Addis Ababa ‘74. His editor credits include the documentaries Juneteenth Community, Louisiana Cane, and the Sundance Jury Award Winning Wet Dreams and False Images. He has shot music videos for Luciano, Bikram Singh, King David, Boomaz and Poet, Ainsley Burrows. A Chihuahua-mix puppy was found in a Las Vegas airport bathroom with a handwritten note detailing that the dog's owner was fleeing from domestic violence and had run out of options, according to CBS News. The dog was found last weekend in the airport bathroom with an anonymous note that read,"My owner was in an abusive relationship and couldn't afford me to get on the flight." ...
