The ACC launched the Managing Aortic Stenosis (MAS) and Emerging Mitral Regurgitation Clinical Care (EMC2) initiatives to improve valvular care through appropriate diagnosis, referral and treatment, particularly with the introduction of new valve technologies. Developed by experts and – when relevant, patients – valuable and free reference or point-of-care tools have been designed to help guide clinicians and their patients on what to do upon being diagnosed with either mitral regurgitation (MR) or aortic stenosis (AS).

Mitral Regurgitation Tools

Mitral Regurgitation Health System Tool

This MR referral tool helps clinicians accurately identify and refer MR patients for advanced treatment. Clinicians can use the tool to determine the next steps in treatment for MR patients such as additional testing, periodic monitoring, or referral to the regional valve center. They will be able to document the necessary information to inform treatment decisions, expedite the referral process and effectively design an MR assessment and referral process for their EMR system.

Mitral Regurgitation Patient Tool

This tool was developed by clinicians and patient advisors to help patients understand what they need to do upon being diagnosed with mitral regurgitation. A series of printable PDFs is available through the ACC’s CardioSmart website.

The Mitral Regurgitation Health System Tool and the Mitral Regurgitation Patient Tool are supported by Founding Sponsor Abbott Vascular.

Aortic Stenosis Tools

This tool was developed by clinicians and patient advisors to help patients understand what they need to do upon being diagnosed with aortic stenosis. A pair of printable PDFs is available through the ACC’s CardioSmart website.

Support for the Managing Aortic Stenosis Patient Tool was provided by Edwards Lifesciences Foundation.
