Two young boys in Liège decide to rob the till of the Gai-Moulin after it closes, but when they sneak in, they see the body of a man, the Greek that had been there earlier, and they run away. The next day the body is found stuffed in a wicker basket at the zoo. The boys are arrested, but a mysterious Frenchman appears connected. In fact it is M, who had been following Ephraim Graphopoulos from Paris. Rene Delfosse, the older, richer of the two boys, thinking Graphopoulos dead, had gone to his hotel room, thinking he'd find some money. But the Greek, who'd been attempting to burgle the Gai-Moulin himself, to prove himself to a spy ring, returned, and Delfosse killed him with a blow with his father's cane. Delfosse gave himself away thinking that M had been arrested as the killer, returning to the room of the Gai-Moulin dancer, Adèle Bosquet, to get the Greek's wallet.
