Japanese brand gives first look at its Ford Fiesta ST rival.

Suzuki has given us our first look at the new Swift Sport.

The Japanese brand's pint-sized hot hatch will be officially revealed at the 2017 Frankfurt motor show in September. But the company has shown this image of the little car, in its traditional bright yellow paint, while keeping technical details under wraps until the show.

However, it is expected that the Swift Sport will ditch the 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine in the current top-spec GLX in favour of the 1.4-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine from the bigger Vitara SUV. If so, that will boost performance to 103kW of power and 220Nm of torque, over the 1.0-litre's 82kW and 160Nm.

Given the new Swift weighs just 870kg the upgraded engine should give it enough go to compete with the likes of the Ford Fiesta ST and Volkswagen Polo GTI.

While Suzuki is keeping mum, the image of the new car reveals the Swift Sport will get a unique front bumper and grille, side sills and alloy wheels to differentiate it from the regular range.
